View Full Version : It's the FOFC 4th of July Picnic Thread!

I figured it was time for one of these, so here goes.
Imagine if you will a typical 4th of July picnic. There's big coolers of iced beverages, from beer on down the line. We've got a dozen grills going, with all manner of dead barbequed animal on the menu. The hickory smoke is wafting across a huge green lawn, which has a whiffleball diamond laid out on it, alongside a volleyball net. Music is playing from a boom box, while elsewhere the seasonal magic of Vin Scully's voice calls a ballgame. Every now and then a bottle rocket zips into the air and explodes with that tell-tale BANG!
Near one picnic table, in between jabs about "athletical" quarterbacks toward whoever will listen, Arnrhydeddu is pontificating about the wonders of the impending Gothic II, as well as the religious epiphany that will be Sid Meier's Pirates. Sachmo mutters something about Space Empires IV being a better game than any of those, and then skitters off to grab some apple pie when WSUCougar begins berating him for having a computer on par with a Commodore 64. Munching on a bratwurst, Cougar then turns his attention to MylesKnight, who is prattling on about how Central Florida would make a fine 12th team for the ACC. This, in turn, starts of a fiery debate between Marmel and cthomer5000 over whether Syracuse or Rutgers (*cough*) will be the dominant team of the picked-over Big East.
Amidst all this, Fritz is doing odd experiments with the cocktail wieners, while Fidatelo stays on the lookout for the Colossal Corn on the Cob.
Meanwhile...

QuikSand has managed to borrow a rolling chalkboard from a nearby school and starts diagramming the odds of a hand of cards being a flush. But as he reaches his conclusion, Shorty and illinifan escapes the clutches of their babysitter and steals the erasers. As chalk dust starts filling the air, Marmel and sabotai complains about second-hand dust.
Ol' SkyDog, in his overalls and straw hat, parks himself on the porch with a shotgun in his lap, watching for any unwanted critters crashing the party.

Under the shade tree, TheLionKing is getting feedback from several members regarding who is hotter, Julia Childs or Margaret Thatcher. On the carport, the Georgia contingent (JonInMiddleGa, GrantDawg, Buzzbee, KWhit, and Tekneek) are heatedly discussing whether Georgia Tech will score more than 3 points and hold Georgia to under 60 in this years gridiron battle. Near the grill, HornedFrogPurple is trying to demonstrate the proper techniques of using lighter fluid safely, however, rexallsc keeps pissing on the fire. As Subby snaps pictures to capture the moment, John Galt takes on the unenviable task of putting together the scrapbook. In the driveway a car is heard. The car door opens and out steps...

Kodos ... who quickly buttons up his plaid shirt to conceal the EA Sports logo on the (slimy) t-shirt underneath. ;)
In case anyone has missed out, he's brought his own personal scrap books - each volume containing copies of news articles detailing everything bad that has happened to the Dallas Cowboys in history.

Poor JeeberD is off on the side pouring out the heartbreak of Miner's football while Chief Rum sits at total attention making an epic poem out of the few lines JeeberD is feeding him.
From the Basketball court, Kobe Bryant walks over where Kodos calls him out saying he sucks. Kobe spots Kodos 20 points in a game to 21 and Kodos drives to the lane where he is rejected and Kobe proceeds to not let Kodos touch the ball again. Then, all of FOFC, minus a few, pick up rocks and try to stone Kobe because he's a Laker and plays with Shaq

Shorty is kicking Kodos' ass for one too many negative comments about his beloved Bengals. Just when things are looking grim for the alien,...

He uses one of his tentacles to grab Shorty by his legs and proceeds to give him a swirly, with the entire congregation watching and laughing hysterically. Kodos yells "What does Carson Palmer's career and Shorty's face have in common?!"

bbor is shoveling potato salad and cole slaw into his gaping yaw, stopping only to down a fine canadian beer or four. Sachmo, on the other hand, is plotting how to give JeeberD the sock on the nose that he deserves for not rooting for the Stars...

Everyone wants to face Jeeber. He's wearing a Chan Ho baseball jersey and the field they are playing at has air like Coor's Field.
MrBug708 looks over at the streaker.....

The Afoci has been using the anti-glaucoma machine for a while while slamming Everclear, and oh look! He seems to be getting the peanut butter out...
Ah yes, he has the Jif. :D
(If anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about, you can just go to hell 'cause I don't know what you've been wasting your time reading.)

Cards4ever starts teaching MIJB how to catch a baseball.
He's amazed to see MIJB actually knows how to wear a baseball glove, while MIJB is amazed by the knowledge Cards has over soccer predictions...
Anhrydeddu is unrecognizable.
It seems his nickname change has also changes his personal looks forever...
KiwiLB and sister Ijha1 show up.
Fritz is nowhere to be seen...
Marc Vaughan and Solecismic had no time to chat with eachother, it seems the latest patch releases made them popular target for chats...
SkyDog is all day busy with the barbeque. That's the price one pays for being in charge...
Ryan S is trying to fix the barbeque, as it seems malfunctioning.
In the end, Shorty3281 solves the problem...
SkyDog on the other hand decided to move the barbeque, it seems it solves the smoke from blurring...
Marmel has made his very own Marmelmarmelade.
Wilzone's calzones turn out to be more popular, though...

So that's why I didn't see Fritz, I don't drink cocktails...
I can probably rig a missile to explode over your heads. That would make for some pretty nice fireworks. :)

Things got a little heated before the softball game when Noop, captain of team "A" reneged on his selection of Marmel and Anrhydeddu and instead selected VPI97.

I thought Noop was involved in the controversial interference call.
You know, where SkyDog called Noop out for running into the first baseman. Apparently, Noop didn't give the first baseman the opportunity to make the catch.
