That is some great news. Vancouver was taken over Quebec City as the Canadian city way back then. Man we could have had those games if we didn't have an idiot at the head of our local committee... Oh well, great news for Vancouver, excellent news for NBC, now that's a 2 billions they won't lose...

NY will be pissed. I'll be pissed because I wanted to take a ski trip to Whistler in a few years. Everything will be pricier and busier now.

That's the thing that worries me. Whistler/Blackcomb is easily the best ski area in the Pacific NW, and I've heard many call it the best in North America. I usually try to drive up there once or twice a year (about 6 hours from Seattle).
Presumably the 2010 winter will be a nightmare for skiing at Whistler, but what I'm worried about is the possibility that housing/hotels will get even more pricey in the meantime due to the publicity as the more casual skiers will try to make a bigger effort to visit the place.
On the other hand, there's likely to be even more construction going on in the area for housing that it may produce the opposite effect - a glut of housing that will lower prices before and after the Olympics. I couldn't believe how many hotels/motels were built in SLC for their Olympics, but it may be a boon for skiers in Utah now.
Hopefully I'll be doing well enough in my career by that point that cost won't be as big of an issue... :)
