View Full Version : Not a Quiksand Puzzle

This is not my own puzzle, but credit goes to "Bricker from the SDMB" as he requested...

The rules, as always, are simple: I have posted a list of ... stuff. You, the contest participant, must identify each item and/or answer each question. For example, if one item were: "Is the quality of mercy strained?" you might answer, “No. It falleth as gentle rains from the heavens,” which would show you recognize the classic speech from Portia in Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice.

"What is NaCl?" Your answer might be, "The chemical symbols for sodium chloride, common table salt."

Any answer that shows you get the reference is fine. If it’s a joke, explain the joke. Leave no stone unturned. I’m phrasing questions ambiguously in an effort to cut down on the help that search engines can provide, although there's no getting around it ... many will be answerable by search engine anyway.

Questions will be in the next post.

I think the answer is Eisenhower, because the 22nd Amendment was ratified in 1951 and contains this provision:

"But this article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term."

So, it appears that this amendment did not apply to Truman, as he was President when it was proposed by Congress (unless it was proposed prior to Roosevelt's death).

Assuming no houses, and the first roll - $32 + $18 (NY = 16 * 2 for Monopoly with no houses; $18 for Indiana) = $50

But, since it's obvious you rolled doubles the first time - otherwise no second roll - there's also a dependency on doubles. If that second '4' is a double-2, and the third doubles, you'd just pay $32 and head straight to Jail.

On #13, it is obviously the Mets over the O's, etc... but I am not sure what the author is really trying to get us to answer here. I will check back in with more detail there.

I had arrived at a line, a square, an "L", a "T", and a sort of flat "s", which is just a square with one of the sides slid up/down. That is 5 more or less 2D objects. From the image above you could a) add one out from the corner, making more or less a 3D corner. You could add one coming at you from the top x, which would be like adding one in back of the bottom right x? Then also add one in front of bottom right x/inback of top x? So is it 8, or am I still missing some?

cuervo, yes, he didn't really know. It was left ambiguous. Well done.

Some hints:

2) Andrew Lloyd Webber

20) Starts with birth, ends with death. This is pretty hard to give a hint to.

23) "I knew he was a guinea"

25) fraud and made up names. On second though, this one is pretty darn hard to make the connection...

29) Shakespeare and 73

32) symbol of peace

33) heh. No way to give a clue here.

42) Hiawatha's mother was Wenonah, father was Mudjekeewis. So grandmother was _________ (Daughter of the Moon).

44) Will find a hint, this is not familiar at all to me

49) what is a grand plie and a grand jette?
