I just packed up my defunct PS2 in it's original box with a note "Disc Read Error appears with every game."
Should I be more detailed? What exactly are they going to do? Send me a new one? That I believe is what someone told me in my old thread about this.
I ship tomorrow, so any help/comments/tips are welcomed tonight.

Also, I have a network adapter, and I just removed it so my PS2 can be shipped as it was originally. Ok, whoops, I don't know what I did with the little plate that you have to remove to put the adapter on, so now there is a hole in the back of the PS2. Should I just re-attach my adapter, and write, "PS. Please do not steal my adapter!" Or somethin' along those lines? :) Seriously, will it be bad if that piece is missing.

Not sure how they do the return shipping things. I hear that they're pretty strict about it being tampered with, but I can't imagine them refusing to do it because of that, never know though.
Not sure what they do exactly, I had the disc read problem, but I went ahead and fixed it myself, I didn't have the patience to send it in.
Of course, that's probably not the smartest thing to do. ;)

I was afraid that if I tried to fix it myself, and it didn't work, Ps2 wouldn't fix it. But I just heard that they will not fix it even if I ship it in, so my only hope is to try to fix it myself.. :-/

Really? How come they won't fix it? Are you out of warranty on it?
And yeah, if you try to fix it yourself, they won't touch it. It's kind of a pain to fix yourself, but let me find the page on the 'net I used to help explain it.
Fortunately I had a friend who is an electrician, because it'll make things a lot simpler if you can get a hold of a potentiometer, but it's doable without.

PS2 Disc Read Error (http://faqs.ign.com/articles/387/387912p1.html)
There's better guides out there for the actual tweaking of the console if it comes down to that. I'd run through the list on that FAQ first though, see if any of that works for you.
Are you noticing it only on DVD's or CD's? My problem was personally only with CD's, and there's an easier way to fix that.

All discs do not work. Calis, I have had my Ps2 since December 2000, I highly doubt I still have a warranty on it.. would I be correct in assuming this?

Oh, well that sucks then.
Yeah, your warranty is gone. What you might be able to do, and I've heard of people having success, is to call up tech support, and bitch about it.
Do some research, it's a known issue with the first edition PS2, they used inferior parts on the lens and such compared to what is used now. If you gripe about it, they might hook you up. Worth a shot at least.

Calis, I hear that over at the official PS2 forums, they are deleting all threads pertaining to the infamous Disc Read Error. How sad is that...

That doesn't surprise me, hadn't heard that though. They have a pretty long history with blowing off this problem though.
I know mckerney said it in jest, but this was the main reason I just recently bought an X-Box.
It got to the point where the hassle of fighting with the PS2 wasn't worth it anymore. I don't think Sony will be getting anymore of my console cash for quite a while.

Hmm, this disturbs me as I have just bought a PS2. But, I guess since I just bought it, I have one of the "good" ones.
Besides, if it lasts me as long as Shorty's has lasted, I'd be fine with it. In 2 1/2 years, the next gen consoles should probably be hitting the market.
As for my advise, I have found really bitching to tech support and overall customer support to be a big help. If the person just won't answer you, ask to speak to their supervisor.
This will either get them to start giving you straight answers, or you'll end up talking to someone who knows more than they do...and if they do the same, ask for their supervisor. Eventually you'll get to the highest person. :)
