Well, using the 1970 roster made by thrym, and the draft files made by 3ric, nilodor, and DFast, I decided to start a career and give you the reports. :) So yeah, it's pretty much nothing. No real house rules... I've always played that I can't offer players less than their asking price for signing/re-signing... but that's about my only house rule. So yeah, I'm starting with my Green Bay Packers, and I'm going to use them the entire way.

Well, the 1970 landscape is pretty interesting. I'm looking forward to simulating games with guys like Jim Brown and Gale Sayers. Here's my roster.

We go 4-0 in the preseason, and the regular season certainly looks promising. Our top 2 running backs are injured going into the year, so we'll start Perry Williams for now. Bart Starr should be the focal point of our offense anyways.

Week 1: Atlanta (0-0) 15, Green bay (0-0) 31
A little upset that we allowed 451 yards of offense in this game. However, our offense played a near perfect game, as Williams and Alexander combine for 141 yards and 2 TDs on 27 carries. Bart Starr was 20/28 for 244 yards and 2 TDs.

Week 2: Green Bay (1-0) 24, New Orleans (1-0) 20
Bart Starr went 30/40 for 287 yards, 2 TDs. Solid victory here.

Week 3: Green Bay (2-0) 21, Detroit (1-1) 10
They had more yards than us, but we came away with the win. Bart Starr went 23/34 for 263 yards, 2 TDs, 2 picks. Doug Hart had an interception returned 14 yards for a TD to contribute to this win. Our D had 6 sacks in this one, with Ray Nitschke leading with 1.5.

Week 4: Carolina (0-3) 0, Green Bay (3-0) 28
Pretty unfair here, Carolina is one of the teams in the league that has no players assigned from the player file. So all they have is second rate players. Seattle, Jacksonville, Baltimore, Carolina, Tampa Bay, and Tennessee all suffer from this. Sometime maybe I should try starting a career with one of them in 1970 and see how that turns out. Hmmm.... Bart Starr was 20/27 for 183 yards and 2 TDs. Easy win.

Week 5: Green Bay (4-0) 17, Chicago (3-1) 10
A crucial division win here. Starr struggled, going 19/35 for 234 yards, 1 TD, 1 pick. Carroll Dale had 5 catches for 100 yards and 1 TD. Dave Hampton was finally back from injury to start his first game of the year, gaining 32 yards on 10 carries. Gale Sayers had 120 yards rushing, but our D racked up 5 sacks on Concannon, and pulled out a solid win.

Week 6: Green Bay (5-0) 14, New England (2-3) 23
A surprising first loss here. Our offense only gained 233 yards. Bart Starr was just 13/24 for 163 yards. Just a tough loss here.

Week 7: Washington (4-1) 23, Green Bay (5-1) 20
Gotta be disappointing losing at Lambeau here. Curt Knight hit a 58 yard FG at the gun to give us our first home loss of the year, despite the fact that we gained over 400 yards. Starr went 23/39 for 296 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT. Disappointing loss puts us a half game behind 5-1 Minnesota for the division going into our bye week.

week 9: Miami (4-3) 24, Green Bay (5-2) 27
Good to get back with a win here. We gained 430 yards of offense in this one. Dave Hampton had 122 yards and 1 TD on 17 carries. Bart Starr went 24/36 for 250 yards and 1 TD.

So at midseason, we're 6-2, one game behind 7-1 Minnesota and their offense which is averaging 40 points per game! Our offense has scored 185 points, and our D is solid having given up only 125 points. Bart Starr has 95.8 rating, 12 TDs, 4 picks. Ray Nitschke has also been a standout player with 59 tackles and 2.5 sacks. A Super Bowl is not out of the question.

Week 10: Detroit (3-5) 13, Green Bay (6-2) 30
Our passing game was on fire today. Bart Starr went 28/41 for 357 yards with 3 TDs and only 1 pick. Carroll Dale had 127 yards and 2 TDs on 6 catches. Next week is the big one with Minnesota, so I'm glad our guys weren't looking past this game.

Week 11: Green Bay (7-2) 7, Minnesota (7-2) 23
Wow. Our rushing game was held to 70 yards, Bart Starr was sacked 8 times. When he wasn't sacked, he was just 13/31 for 172 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs. They gained 440 yards on us, and really made us look silly in this one. Good thing next week we get Tampa Bay.

Week 12: Green Bay (7-3) 23, Tampa Bay (2-8) 24
Wow. Step back just a second here. Tampa Bay has ZERO good players, and just beat us. I can't believe this. Bart Starr was sacked 6 times and threw 2 interceptions to a bunch of nobodies! He was just 24/39 for 256 yards and 1 TD. Our running attack struggled and our D was mediocre.

Week 13: Chicago (6-5) 27, Green Bay (7-4) 35
OK More like it. Bart Starr went 23/31 for 270 yards and 3 TDs. Dave Hampton returned a kickoff for a TD. Even though Gale Sayers had another 100 yard performance, we still game out on top here.

Week 14: Minnesota (9-3) 27, Green Bay (8-4) 33
Big time overtime win. How they got 27 points on 255 yards I don't know, but they did. Their QB Cuozzo was just 22/55. We were hot today, our ground game picking up 162 yards and Bart Starr going 25/45 for 273 yards, 2 TDs, 1 pick. Doug Hart won the game with a 56 yard INT returned for a TD in overtime.

Week 15: Green Bay (9-4) 24, San Francisco (8-5) 10
We held them to just 185 yards here. Our ground game was big, picking up 173 yards, while Bart Starr was mediocre going 17/32 for 155 yards and 1 TD. Our D was huge. Only allowing 185 yards, with 6 sacks, and Ray Nitschke intercepting 2 passes, 1 for a TD.

Week 16: Buffalo (1-13) 20, Green Bay (10-4) 27
OJ Simpson seems to be a disaster this season, having not even reached 400 yards yet despite starting every game and averaging around 10 carries per game. In this one, he had 12 carries for 27 yards. We racked up 497 yards ourselves, 136 on the ground, with Starr going 27/41 for 361 yards, 2 TDs, 2 picks. Starr threw to 11 different guys this game.

Week 17: Green Bay (11-4) 33, New Jersey (9-6) 30
With 19 seconds left, Bart Starr hits Carroll Dale for the game winning 10 yard TD pass. Our ground game picks up 110 here, while Starr goes 19/28 for 333 yards, 3 TDs, and only 1 pick. He was sacked 6 times here. Carroll Dale had 5 catches for 151 yards and 2 TDs. Our D had a bad game, but we still came away with the win.

A solid 12-4 season for us.

There's a good chance we could win the NFC Title this year... but I don't know if we could get by whoever will become the AFC Champion. We'll see. Good numbers all around for our team. Bart Starr finishes the season with a 93.3 QB Rating, 7th in the NFL. Carroll Dale had over 1000 yards receiving, while our TE John Hilton had a big season with over 800 yards. Defensively, Ray Nitschke had 114 solo tackles, big time season.

We play 10-7 New Orleans in the divisional playoffs. We beat them 24-20 in the regular season, and I see no reason why we wouldn't be able to win again here. We dominate, 31-13. Bart Starr was great, going 24/35 for 350 yards and 3 TDs. Hilton had 7 catches for 82 yards, Dale had 104 yards. We had 477 total yards, and defensively had 3 picks. Not much to say about this dominating performance.

The NFC Championship game is us hosting the Dallas Cowboys. A rematch of the Ice Bowl just a few short years earlier. Their defense is the second best in the NFL, with a very good offense as well. This could be a loss. They drove immediately for a TD with little resistance from our defense, and then on our first drive, Bart Starr threw an interception that was returned 64 yards for a TD. Quickly down 14-0. On our next drive, Starr hits Carroll Dale for a 52 yard TD pass to bring it within 14-7. Dallas led 17-10 going into halftime. A fumble on our first second half drive was followed up by Morton hitting Bob Hayes for a 36 yard pass down to our 4. Luckily for us, Rudy Kuechenberg came up big with an interception in the endzone. No one scored in the third quarter, so they still led 17-10 going into the 4th quarter. In the 4th quarter, we got a FG to get within 4. Doug Hart then came up with a big interception, returned it 13 yards to their 31, and we were in business. Hampton finished off the drive with a 1 yard running TD, but the PAT was missed, and we led just 19-17. With 3:20 left, they attempted a 56 yard FG, but came up short. We had to give back the ball, and they got it at their 9 yard line with 2:18 to go. A big Dave Robinson interception at their 43 quickly ended that. A tough game, but we came out on top 19-17. Starr struggled in this one, going just 18/37 for 264 yards, 1 TD, 1 pick. He was sacked 6 times, but also scrambled for 30 yards. Carroll Dale had 8 catches for 143 yards and 1 TD. Defensively, huge game for Ray Nitschke, with 16 solo tackles and 6 assists. Indianpolis beat Cleveland in the AFC Title Game, so we take on Johnny Unitas in the Super Bowl.

We're 7 point underdogs in the Super Bowl, which I can easily understand. To be honest, I'm stunned and relieved they beat Cleveland, because I saw no way we could stop Jim Brown, and no way our offense could move on them. But still, Johnny Unitas is the probable MVP of the year with a 104.8 rating, Maitland ran for 1484 yards, they've got two 1000 yard WRs, and John Mackey is a big time TE when he's healthy. Not to mention a tough defense. Should be an interesting game. A midwestern Super Bowl in Peoria, Illinois, between to midwestern teams.

They miss a 51 yard FG on their first drive, giving us a short field early on. Dale has 4 catches for 64 yards and a TD on the first drive... putting us up 7-0. We force a 3 and out, and then look to be driving nicely when Carroll Dale fumbles, and the Colts recovered in their territory. Their first score came in the 2nd quarter on a 56 yard FG. We were in the redzone, when Dave Hampton fumbled and the Colts recovered. The wet field is causing the fumbles today. Maitland runs for a 15 yard TD with 3 seconds left in the first half, and they lead 10-7 at halftime. Both teams have a lot of yardage, but neither is scoring a ton. Bart Starr had a brilliant first half, but those around him are fumbling the ball, he's getting sacked, and it's just sad. I'm surprised it's this low scoring, and I'm surprised we're still this close. So let's see how the second half goes. First drive of the second half, Starr hits Dale for 50 yards. Same drive, he hit him for 19 on a 3rd and 16. However, penalties and sacks pushed it back to 3rd and 29 from their 46, so two great passes unfortunately didn't even count really. Livingston missed a 55 yard FG. Another wasted opportunity. They drive right down, but we hold them off at the goal line, and they take an 18 yard FG, putting us down 13-7. We drive down, and Livingston hits a 52 yard FG to bring us back within 3 at the beginning of the 4th quarter. We forced a 3 and out... and then the IDIOTS on the PUNT went OFFSIDES! Indianapolis than continued to drive it all the way for a TD... I can't believe that happened! However, in the next 2:45, we drive it 77 yards in 11 plays, finishing off with Starr hitting Mike Carter for a 2 yard TD. With 2:36 left in the fourth, we're down 20-17. However, our defense just can't stop Maitland whatsoever, and he finishes off the drive with several first downs, and Indianapolis takes it, 20-17. Despite the loss, Bart Starr is named MVP. He should be, he went 25/36 for 348 yards and 2 TDs. He led our offense to 10/15 on 3rd downs! The rest of our offense was sad though... 89 yards rushing, 2 fumbles lost, 6 sacks, 5 penalties. I would accuse Carroll Dale of having a great game- 10 catches, 210 yards, 1 TD... if not for that crucial fumble early on. Defensively, who knows what happened. Maitland ran 28 times for 144 yards and 1 TD... Unitas was 16/22 for 226 yards and 1 TD. Tough game on D.

Well, I was surprised to have it be that close of a Super Bowl. I never expected us to get to the Super Bowl the way that Minnesota was playing early on in the season, so I guess I can't complain too much.

Great to see this! Keep up the good work, this was really a fun read.

1971

Well our 1970 year was good, but there's certainly areas our team can used improved.

I just noticed a bug problem... it's 1971, but I still have a stadium renovation scheduled to be completed in 2003. Should let Jim Gindin know.

ANYHOW, back on with things. I keep my staff as is, until everyone's contract is up I will stick with them.

Free Agency, we're not losing much. Kevin Hardy, John Charles, and our Punter Earnest Chaney are the only starters leaving, none of which I'm really interested in keeping. A lot of the players on my team seem to be signed for a ton less than they deserve. I can either re-sign them to hefty contracts, or over-load my roster with talent because of the excess cap room. Don't call the FOF Etiquette Police on me, but I'm gonna attempt to load up my roster now.

Free Agency isn't incredibly song, and the strong parts of free agency also seem to be where I already have stars. So, luckily, it won't be THAT easy. I end up signing over a dozen guys in free agency- bringing my roster size up to 58- but not really big time superstars. RG Ralph Wenzel is the most talented addition, with some other decent signings. DE Dick Evey put up 12 sacks with St. Louis last year, and Edd Hargent is a QB who I can see as a future starter in the NFL, though not a superstar. Aside from that, not much to say about our Free Agent Class. However, there's one thing I want to make a habit of recording, to see how the league progresses, and that's to see the biggest offseason contract. This year, it's San Diego resigning QB John Hadl to a 5 year, 12.11 million dollar deal.

Looking at the draft class, only one player exceeds a 7.0 rating. It's John Riggins, who gets an 8.6 rating. If Seattle doesn't take him with the first pick, I'll be very surprised. If he's not a top 5 pick, I question the game's drafting AI. Seattle takes Tackle Dan Dierdorf with the #1 pick. I'm relieved as John Riggins goes #2 to Carolina. I really haven't thought about my pick yet, we'll just see what's available at #31.

My first round pick ends up being WR Dwight Harrison out of Texas A&M. Excellent at Getting Downfield and Big Play Receiving, very good at Route Running, this guy looks like he'll become our big play wide receiver, with Carroll Dale being the possession guy. Here was a review of the first round of the draft

1. Seattle - Dierdorf, Dan, T, Michigan
2. Carolina - Riggins, John, RB, Kansas
3. Tennessee - Profit, Joe, RB, Penn State
4. Jacksonville - Moore, Joe, RB, Missouri
5. Buffalo - Ross, Louis, DE, South Carolina St.
6. Baltimore - Thompson, Wilton, S, Utah
7. Tampa Bay - Brockington, John, RB, Ohio State
8. New England - Wright, Elmo, WR, Houston
9. Denver - Anderson, Ken, QB, Augustana
10. Houston - Slough, Greg, OLB, Southern California
11. Detroit - Stowe, Otto, WR, Iowa State
12. Arizona - Jackson, Larron, T, Missouri
13. Chicago - Tatum, Jack, CB, Ohio State
14. San Francisco - Dickey, Lynn, QB, Kansas State
15. New York - Harris, Richard, DE, Grambling
16. Atlanta - Holden, Samuel, G, Grambling
17. Pittsburgh - Alzado, Lyle, DE, Yankton
18. New Jersey - Adams, Julius, DT, Texas Southern
19. Oakland - White, Dwight, DE, Texas
20. Philadelphia - Tipton, David, DT, Stanford
21. Minnesota - Brown, Stan, WR, Purdue
22. Cincinnati - Potchad, Mike, T, Pittsburg State
23. Washington - Dickerson, Sam, WR, Southern California
24. Kansas City - Hill, J.D., WR, Arizona State
25. New Orleans - Cornell, Bo, RB, Washington
26. St. Louis - Ham, Jack, ILB, Penn State
27. Miami - Villapiano, Phil, ILB, Bowling Green
28. Dallas - Dunlap, Leonard, CB, Texas
29. San Diego - Dieken, Doug, T, Illinois
30. Cleveland - Hayden, Leo, RB, Ohio State
31. Green Bay - Harrison, Dwight, WR, Texas A&M
32. Indianapolis - Burrow, Ken, WR, San Diego State

Amateur Draft Report:

Rnd 1 - Dwight Harrison, WR, Texas A&M (29/61): Big play WR.
Rnd 2 - Grady Daly, CB, Southern California (12/49): All around good CB.
Rnd 3 - Scott Lewis, DE, Grambling (17/41): Very good pass rush technique. Oddly enough, I can't change his position to right defensive end, which is where I want to use him. All my other left defensive ends can change, but not him. The only noticeable difference between him and them is that he's only 250 pounds, but I don't recall that ever making a difference. I can change him to 5 different LB positions, but not RDE. Oh well.
Rnd 4 - Paul Rogers, P, Nebraska (43/64): Outstanding directional punting, good elsewhere.
Rnd 5 - Karl Douglas, QB, Texas (7/46): Excellent in long passes. Scrambles a ton. Good pretty much across the board.
Rnd 6 - James Harrison, RB, Missouri (28/44): Very good breakaway speed. His receiving skills are more solid than his running skills.
Rnd 7 - Rondell Wehmeyer, WR, Kansas State (17/26): Excellent punt returner.

After training camp, all the picks hold up nicely. To clear up conflict between him and Rich Moore, I trade OLB Dave Robinson to Baltimore for their 6th round pick next year. Karl Douglas is in a conflict with Ken Bowman, and it's my policy to keep a friendly environment with my team, so I have to cut Karl Douglas.

Here's our roster going into the regular season, and my thoughts on it.

Green Bay Packers Roster, Scout Overview

Player # Pos Exp Current Estimate Future Estimate Cntrct OnTeam
$$Starr, Bart 15 QB 14 79 79 4 yrs. 1958
Harget, Edd 4 QB 3 34 54 1 yr. 1971
Patrick, Frank 10 QB 2 14 43 2 yrs. 1970

Bart Starr is a top 5 NFL QB. He's excellent or very good across the board, except for screen passes and short passes, where he's only good. A strong personality, very popular, and a smart guy. He's a perfect QB for us, hopefully for another 5 seasons. Edd Harget is a very accurate QB. He has a roll-out style, but never runs. He has excellent timing, and can sense the rush very nicely. He's a solid QB if Bart Starr goes out.

$$Hampton, Dave 25 RB 3 46 49 2 yrs. 1969

Grabowski, Jim 33 FB 5 37 56 4 yrs. 1967
##Gross, Earl 46 FB 10 29 36 3 yrs. 1971

I'm hoping Dave Hampton will get around 200 carries this year. Maybe even around 250 and 1000. He's also our KR. Donny Anderson should do a nice job of spelling him, but only averaged 2.6 YPC last year. We've got some nice fullbacks as well.

$$Hilton, John 86 TE 7 69 69 3 yrs. 1970

##Spilis, John 85 SE 3 19 29 2 yrs. 1969
##Banda, Alfred 87 SE 2 19 38 1 yr. 1971

I expect John Hilton to have another 60 reception, 750+ yard year this year. Carroll Dale is an excellent hands WR who shouldn't drop many and should get over 1000. Dwight Harrison should hopefully fill the role of big play WR quite nicely, though he'll certainly never become a go-to guy. I expect him to drop a lot of passes, but hopefully make up for it with a lot of long catches. I really think if Dwight Harrison lives up to his potential, he could be the addition that gets us a Lombardi trophy. He's not starting yet because of injury.

Hayhoe, Bill 77 RT 3 29 42 3 yrs. 1969

Our offensive line is very solid. Our RG Bill Lueck could be a better pass blocker, but that's really our only weakness.

$$Williams, Sweeny 83 RDE 2 37 38 1 yr. 1970

Lionel Aldridge has a disappointing year last year with only 8 sacks. I hope for better numbers this year. I'm extremely disappointed that Scott Lewis won't switch to RDE. Since Dick Evey's strength is the pass rush, he'll be playing RDT in passing situations. It'll be good to see Rich Moore in action this year, he's got potential to be an incredible run stopper, hopefully he begins to fill that up. Mike McCoy has some very nice potential as well.

Flanagan, Jim 55 SLB 4 32 47 3 yrs. 1968

$$Kuechenberg, Rudy 56 WLB 5 37 44 1 yr. 1970
Powell, Jesse 52 WLB 3 31 49 1 yr. 1971

Fred Carr is actually going to be playing Strong Side. Jim Flanagan is just not consistent enough to start. He's a good pass rusher, but not good against the run, or in coverage. Rudy K shouldn't be that outstanding, but he's a decent player across the board. Ray Nitschke is an all-pro run stuffer, not much needs to be said about him. Jim Carter almost makes me want to make my D a 3-4, but I'm not the coach, just the GM. Here's a guy who could be a 10 sack player, with around 70 tackles, if stuck into a lineup. Definitely gonna be the guy after Nitschke leaves.

$$McCloughan, Kent 39 LCB 7 41 41 2 yrs. 1971

Hunt, Ervin 28 SS 2 27 27 3 yrs. 1970
$$Hart, Doug 43 FS 7 62 63 4 yrs. 1965

Kent McCloughan comes over from Oakland, where he was a backup last year. A very good run stopper and intercepter, but I won't be surprised to see him get burnt a lot. Bob Jeter I expect to be fairly solid, as he's got consistently solid attributes. Willie Wood and Doug Hart is a nice pair of Safeties- something I always like to have.

Overall, I think this roster should be very solid. After getting to the Super Bowl last year, I expect this team to have a very good season, and perhaps get back to it.

Week 1: Green Bay (0-0) 23, Detroit (0-0) 20
A grueling week one game, won in overtime. The game had 97 pass attempts compared to 36 rushes. Our offense had just 57 yards rushing, but Bart Starr led our offense with 363 yards and 2 TDs on 31/43 passing. Carroll Dale had an incredible day, with

13 catches for 206 yards and 2 TDs. Defensively, we had 4 sacks and forced 2 turnovers. A little disappointed that Dwight Harrison was only thrown to one time, and dropped that one.

Week 2: Green Bay (1-0) 17, Kansas City (0-1) 14
I'll be honest, I didn't expect to win this, but Bart Starr had 2 second half TDs, including one to Jack Clancey with 1:14 left to wni the game. Our running game only had 78 yards, but Bart Starr went 27/46 for 364 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT. He was sacked 5 times though, not good. Dwight Harrison had 3 catches for 56 yards. Defensively we had 4 sacks, and Willie Wood had 2 INTs. Solid victory.

Week 3: St. Louis (2-0) 7, Green Bay (2-0) 28
Very impressive win here. Roman Gabriel is defending MVP, but we picked him off twice and held his offense to just 293 total yards, and forced 3 turnovers. Our running game finally showed up with 201 yards, and Bart Starr was near perfect, going 26/34 for 287 yards and 2 TDs, 1 pick. Carroll Dale had 6 catches for 102 yards and 1 TD.

Week 4: Green Bay (3-0) 40, Washington (3-0) 25
After being down 17-10, we had 30 unanswered points from 8:32 in the third quarter to 8:55 in the fourth quarter. 108 yards rushing in this one, while Bart Starr was brilliant, going 23/26 for 294 yards and 3 TDs, despite being harassed and sacked 7

times. 3 turnovers forced in this one, including Willie Wood's touchdown interception. At this point I realize our coach has no intentions of starting Dwight Harrison over Jack Clancey, and I don't like to question the coach's decisions very often, so I'll let it go, especially with Bart Starr's success thus far this year.

Week 5: Minnesota (2-2) 16, Green Bay (4-0) 37
For some reason, the Vikings aren't nearly the team they were last year. We didn't even play that well this game. 137 yards rushing, Starr was 19/32 for 250 yards for 2 TDs and 2 INTs. Our D had 3 sacks and forced 1 turnover.

Week 6: Philadelphia (4-1) 24, Green Bay (5-0) 17
A total departure from everything we'd been doing right all season. We alllowed 391 yards of offense. We had 112 yards rushing, but Starr was just awful. 26/53 for 284 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 pick. Accuracy was just horrible today. Dale did have 6 catches for 102 yards. Regardless, not a good game. And two starters- RG Bill Lueck and LCB Kent McCloughan- are done for the year. We sign John Sodaski to start at LCB.

Week 7: Green Bay (5-1) 24, New York (2-3) 6
A huge scare here when Bart Starr is knocked out of the game, not to return. He should only miss 1 game though. We still came out with the win. 86 yards rushing. Edd Harget went 21/35 for 261 yards, 3 TDs, 1 pick. Not bad performance on his part. Carroll Dale had 9 catches, 129 yards, and 2 TDs. Great defensive performance here, allowing only 202 yards, with 2 picks and 4 sacks.

Week 8: Detroit (3-4) 34, Green Bay (6-1) 20
Disaster. We were down 28-0 early in the 2nd quarter already. They didn't run up the score anymore, but not a good game on our part. 134 yards rushing, But Steve Tensi got the start at QB and struggled. 17/33 for 302 yards, no TDs but 2 interceptions.

Well at the mid point of the season (also our bye week), we're 6-2, thoroughly in charge of the division. Another Super Bowl is certainly within grasp. Bart Starr has MVP type numbers, with a 98.6 rating, 13 TDs to 5 INTs, and 1847 yards. Carroll Dale has 50 catches for 813 yards already. Dwight Harrison has just 5 catches for 75 yards on the season, but he's just our #4 WR. Not much else to report, so let's get to the second half of the season.

Week 10: Dallas (4-4) 10, Green Bay (6-2) 35
Dominating performance. Defensively, we had 4 sacks and 3 INTs. On offense, a solid 146 yards rushing. Bart Starr returned to action, going 25/37 for 249 yards and 2 TDs, spreading the ball around to 10 different WR's.

Week 11: Green Bay (7-2) 23, Chicago (3-6) 20
Bart Starr won the game with 44 seconds left, getting a 5 yard TD run to put us up by 3. He was on the run a lot in this game- sacked 5 times, running 5 more times for 40 yards. Throwing, he went 23/33 for 273 yards. Our ground game racked up 122 yards. Gale Sayers had 13 carries for 130 yards. We had 6 sacks and 1 INT.

Week 12: Green Bay (8-2) 18, Denver (4-6) 29
I'm stunned by this loss. We were favored by 11 over a team with nothing going for them, and got beat by 11. And it wasn't even that close- we scored a TD with less than a minute to go. Bart Starr went 19/41 for 261 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs. I think that tells the whole story. On a bright note, Dwight Harrison had a 57 yard catch.

Week 13: Green Bay (8-3) 30, New Orleans (8-3) 24
This game was certainly the highlight of any football Sunday. Two teams, very much in the playoff picture, going to overtime, playing a 72 minute game. We won it when Bart Starr hit Travis Wililams for a 1 yard TD with 3 minutes left in overtime. 107 rushing yards in this game for us. Starr went 31/52 for 431 yards and 3 TDs, but threw 2 picks and was sacked 6 times. Carroll Dale had 8 catches for 139 yards. Defensively we allowed 415 yards, but had 4 sacks and 3 INTs. This was a tough game, and it's not going to get any easier next week against Oakland. Hopefully we're not too worn out for that one.

Suddenly, Detroit has won 7 in a row, and is just one game behind in the divisional race.

Week 14: Oakland (11-1) 15, Green Bay (9-3) 17
For the second straight week, we're stuck in a big time game that goes down to the wire. With 45 seconds left, Dale Livingston hits a 23 yard FG to put us up 17-15 and win the game. A defensive game here, and hats off to our defensive unit that kept Fred Biletnikoff to only 2 catches. 123 yards running, while Bart Starr went 18/32 for 229 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT. Our D had 3 sacks and 1 INT.

Week 15: Chicago (4-9) 29, Green Bay (10-3) 24
We come off two of the biggest wins of the season, and now we can't beat a 4-9 team at Lambeau. When Bart Starr hit Wehmeyer for an 18 yard TD pass with 1:27 to put us up 24-23, it looked over. But Chicago drove right back down, and Gale Sayers had an 11 yard TD run to win the game for them. Our running game had only 73 yards. Starr went 23/39 for 290 yards, 3 TDs, 2 INTs. Our D had 5 sacks.

Week 16: San Diego (9-4-1) 23, Green Bay (10-4) 45
In 3 out of 4 weeks we have defeated the top 5 offenses in the NFL, the other was a loss to the Bears. We kept John Hadl to 19/47 for 225 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs, and 5 sacks. Our ground game had 107 yards, while Bart Starr went 26/35 for 295 yards and 4 TDs. Dale had 10 catches for 107 yards. Dwight Harrison had his first career TD- from 21 yards. Wehmeyer had his 2nd PR TD of the year.

Week 17: Green Bay (11-4) 41, Minnesota (6-9) 23
Not even close. Our D had 5 INTs, while Anderson became our first 100 yard back of the year, with 105 on 12 carries. Starr went 15/24 for 191 yards, 3 TDs, and 1 pick. We actually gave up 468 yards here, but obviously it didn't matter.

So we win the division and get a first round bye. Bart Starr had over 4000 yards and 30 TDs, with a 96.0 rating. Dale had a remarkable year with almost 90 catches and 1400+ yards. Jack Clancey wasn't that bad of a #2 guy. Rondell Wehmeyer was the second best punt returner in the league, averaging 16.3 per return. Defensively, Ray Nitschke had 100+ tackles again, while Lionel Aldridge had 12.5 sacks.

Our first game in the divisional playoffs is against Washington. This is a very loseable game. However, on our first possession, Starr hit Dale for a 51 yardTD, so it was a nice start. Wow, I missed the whole game. There was this huge black bug on my foot, i had to kill it. It had an incredibly hard body, and had pinchers and stuff, and I didn't realize I never paused the game. Regardless, we took a 24-21 victory that wasn't really that close. Our running game gained only 80 yards, but Bart Starr was solid going 19/29 for 287 yards and 2 TDs. Dale had 5 atches for 119 yards and 1 TD. 6 sacks and 2 turnovers forced by our D. Unfortunately, we lost two DT's for the NFC Championship game- Bob Brown and Rich Moore. Moore is done for the year, Brown could possible return in the Super Bowl if we get there.

Regardless, the NFC Championship game is the first playoff road game we've had, as we travel to Atlanta. Here's a team that started 12-0, then lost 3 in a row. They had the #1 D in the NFL, allowing just 13.9 points per game. OLB Don Hansen is the star of this defense, as he had 85 tackles, 9 sacks, and 8 interceptions this year. Offensively, they're not a team to fear. It's up to Bart Starr and Carroll Dale to penetrate this defense. We're actually 3 point favorites on the road here.

We imediately forced them into a 3 and out, then drive it down to inside their 5, before Starr was sacked back to the 12. We end up getting a 21 yard FG. 2 more plays for their offense get them next-to-nothing, and on third down, Bob Jeter intercepts it at their 30 yard line. 4 plays later, Starr hits Dale for a 6 yard TD, and we're up 10-0. We force another 3 and out, but they punt it 60 yards and we lose 6 on the return, so we only get the ball at our 17. They hold us, and their next drive they finally get something offensively into our territory- but miss the 46 yard FG. We punt it back, and they drive 69 yards for a TD from Johnson to Flatley. we led 10-7 at halftime. On their first possession of the second half, Doug Hart gets a big interception at their 36, and runs it back 25 yards to their 11. However, they make another tough goal line stand, and we settle for a 19 yard FG. They were driving into our territory- when Doug Hart makes another big interception, this time at our 21, running it back to our 45. Going into the fourth quarter we still led 13-7. Back in their territory with 5 minutes left, they were looking for that game-winning drive. Then Sweeny Williams sacked Johnson, forcing a fumble, which Evey recovered at their 33. Bart Starr hit Wehmeyer for a 12 yard TD, and we got the 2 point conversion, to put us up 21-7 with 2:51 remaining. The first pass of their next drive was intercepted by Bob Jeter. We end up getting a 20 yard FG, to go up 24-7 with 1:53 left. They score a TD, but that's the end of the game, and we win 24-14. Their defense was for real, holding us under 300 yards. Bart Starr went 19/30 for 188 yards and 2 TDs. Carroll Dale had 4 catches, with his longest reception being 8 yards. We only gained 77 yards on the ground, but our defense won this one for us. 4 sacks, 5 turnovers. Very nice game defensively.

For the second straight year, Cleveland loses at home in the AFC Championship Game, so we host San Diego in the Super Bowl. San Diego has a very good offense- #8 in rushing, #3 in passing, #2 in scoring. Their last loss was 45-23 at Lambeau, to us. They've got a QB with the biggest contract in the NFL, and he turned out a 4500 yard, 32 TD performance this year, with Lance Alworth getting almost 1800 yards. Defensively however, they're only mediocre. Our D has to step up big, and our offense has to play up to its caliber, and we could be able to turn out a Super Bowl victory here. We are 3 point favorites.

Unfortunaetly, we go 3 and out on our first possession. We force a punt, then go 3 and out yet again. They come back with a 28 yard FG. We come back, driving it 80 yards in 15 plays and 6:39. A great drive, capped off in a 1 yard TD by Hampton. They come back by driving 61 yards, with Hadl hitting Queen for a 3 yard TD. They add a 35 yard FG before halftime and they're up 13-7 at halftime. A horrible first half performance here. Only 88 total yards in the first half- 80 of them came on our only scoring drive. Penalties are all over the place- sloppy ball. And we've given up 195 yards. We need to play much better second half ball or this will be a loss. Well, our D came out pumped up in the second half, and Willie Wood immediately got an interception at their 48. We were hot, until a false start penalty stopped our momentum. Regardless, we hit a 32 yard FG to bring it within 13-10. We force a punt, then we start our drive with Starr hitting Dale for 26 yards. Hampton runs for 15. Starr hits Hilton for 19, then San Diego is called for Unneccessary Roughness. We cap off the drive without a TD, unfortunately, instead a 26 yard FG to tie it up at 13. That's the score going into the fourth quarter. We force another punt, but so do they. They punt again. Then Bart Starr throws his first interception of the postseason, at our 22 yardline. Not good. They drive it in 2:31 to take to 20-13 lead on a Dickie Post 2 yard TD. That's followed by a 3 and out. We force a 3 and out on their part- and they plant us down at our 5 yard line. With 2:39 left, down 20-13 in a Super Bowl, Bart Starr needs to drive us 95 yards. Time to see how good he really is. He hits Dale for 13 yards- just Dale's 4th catch of the game. On 3rd and 9, he hits Dale for another 13 yards. 1:35 left now, at our 32. He hits Hampton for 7, then Jack Clancey drops it! Then of course, a false start, bringing up 3rd and 8. Next pass was blocked at the line, bringing up a crucial 4th and 8. This is the season, right here. Starr drops back, looking for Carroll Dale, but the pass is knocked down by Jim Tolbert and San Diego gets the ball. One first down later, they win the game. There is no reason we would have won this game. We were held to 250 yards by a mediocre defense. Bart Starr was just 17/33 for 186 yards and 1 INT. Carroll Dale had just 76 yards on 5 catches. Defensively, it was about the type of performance I hoped for. We allowed 371 yards, with 5 sacks. John Hadl, the richest player in the NFL, was Super Bowl MVP going 22/29 for 227 yards and 1 TD. Ray Nitschke led our defense with 14 tackles and 7 assists, but in a losing effort.

So for the second straight year, the Super Bowl Champion's last two games were victories over Cleveland and us. Oh well.

I'll also add that I just noticed the Super Bowl was played in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, giving us a huge advantage. However, we still came up short.

Thanks for commenting 3ric, glad to know someone's reading it. :) I'm not sure what caused the problem in my last post, but I edited it. I won't be updating this again until Monday because I'll be out of town, but then I should get right back into this.

OK, on to the offseason. Forest Gregg is our only retired player.

-STAFF HIRING

Coach Spencer McKee's contract is up. He's a solid coach, so I'm gonna try to keep him. We re-sign him for a 5 year, 3.70 million dollar deal, making him the highest paid coach in the league.

-FREE AGENCY

First I look at the Draft Preview, which seems to be pretty weak again this year, no real excellent players. Checking the players off of my team that are free agents, it's not too much. LB Rudy Kuechenberg, G Jim Copeland, WR Jack Clancey and DE Sweeny Williams are the only starters, none of which I want to keep that much. The biggest star in free agency is Gale Sayers, and I will definitely be going after him. We have almost 18 million dollars of cap room, so we should be able to add a lot.

With running back arguably our biggest need, and one of the league's best available in free agency, we're gonna try our best to get him under contract. Unfortunately, we didn't get any time to battle with other teams, as he signed with another franchise after just one step. Worst of all is that franchise is Detroit. We were ready to offer him any kind of money to join us, but he jumped immediately to the Lions.

Our top free agent signing was Ike Kelly, strong-side linebacker who had over 100 tackles for the Eagles last year. Excellent pass rush technique, good player overall. RG Jim Harvey should also be a starter for us, he's a very good run blocker and good elsewhere. Dave Olerich is a good WLB, with very good run D and pass rush strength. The other signings were pretty minor.

The most expensive signing in the NFL was Carolina signing DT John Richardson away from Miami for 7 years and 24.14 million dollars.

-DRAFT

Weak draft class again. My first draft pick is a tough selection, choosing between a RB, DE, or CB. Since none of the defensive players stand out to me, I take RB Larry McCutcheon, who has good running skills and even better receiving skills. Here was the first round of the draft:

1. Tampa Bay - Gay, Tommy, DT, Arkansas State
2. Jacksonville - Furness, Steve, DE, Rhode Island
3. Buffalo - Sipe, Brian, QB, San Diego State (Buffalo traded OJ Simpson to Baltimore)
4. Buffalo - Vella, John, T, Southern California
5. San Diego - Branch, Cliff, WR, Denison (San Diego traded Walt Sweeney to New York)
6. San Francisco - Johnson, Carl, T, Nebraska (Three way trade: Jake Kupp to Tennessee, Dave Wilcox to New Orleans, pick to San Francisco)
7. Carolina - Dobler, Conrad, G, Wyoming
8. Pittsburgh - Kadish, Mike, DT, Notre Dame
9. Denver - White, Sherman, DE, California
10. Minnesota - Nash, Tom, T, Georgia
11. Chicago - Sampson, Greg, DE, Stanford
12. New York - Mendenhall, John, DT, Grambling
13. Dallas - LeClair, Jim, OLB, North Dakota
14. Philadelphia - Patulski, Walt, DE, Notre Dame
15. New England - Mitchell, Lydell, RB, Penn State
16. Kansas City - Bolton, Ron, S, Norfolk State
17. Houston - Korver, Kelvin, DT, Northwestern
18. San Francisco - Lunsford, Mel, DT, Ohio
19. Miami - Barkum, Jerome, WR, Jackson State
20. Arizona - Wesley, Don, T, Small College
21. Cincinnati - Dunbar, Allen, WR, Southern University
22. Detroit - Rudolph, Council, DE, Kentucky State
23. New Orleans - McKenzie, Reggie, G, Michigan
24. Minnesota - Harris, Franco, RB, Penn State (Minnesota traded Bob Bryant to St. Louis)
25. Indianapolis - Washington, Herb, WR, Michigan State
26. Washington - Thomas, Skip, CB, Southern California
27. New Jersey - Sanders, Ken, DE, Howard
28. Atlanta - Mueller, Donny, WR, Colorado
29. Oakland - Brinkley, Lorenzo, CB, Missouri
30. Cleveland - Davis, Milt, DE, Texas
31. Green Bay - McCutcheon, Larry, RB, Colorado State
32. San Diego - Croft, Don, DT, Texas - El Paso

Amateur Draft Report:

Rnd 1 - Larry McCutcheon, RB, Colorado State (44/62): Good running skills, very good receiving skills.
Rnd 2 - Brad Alger, DE, San Jose State (16/44): Good running D, very good pass rush technique.
Rnd 3 - Jerry Cunningham, CB, Northwestern (13/48): Good in everything except poor zone D. Also a decent returner.
Rnd 4 - Todd Lawton, OLB, Georgia Tech (18/44): Good all around, very good bump & run D and play diagnosis.
Rnd 5 - Clay Devine, TE, Texas A&M (13/41): Very good hands, good or poor elsewhere.
Rnd 6 - Lamar Dawkins, ILB, Iowa State (13/42): Good all across the board.
Rnd 6 - Eddie Brock, WR, Oklahoma State (9/35): Very good 3rd down, Courage, and Adjusting to the Ball. Fair/poor elsewhere.
Rnd 7 - Renaldo Baxter, T, Florida State (2/32): Good pass blocking, otherwise poor.

Our only major injury going into the regular season is FB Travis Williams. Dwight Harrison, last year's first round pick, moves into a starting WR position this year. Jim Harvey over from Oakland becomes our starter at RG. Brad Alger is our only starting rookie, the 2nd round pick at RDE. Ike Kelley should be a very good starter at SLB, and should improve our poor rushing D from last year. Other than those changes, our starting lineup is the same. I expect another playoff run, and hope for a Super Bowl win.

-REGULAR SEASON

Week 1: Green Bay (0-0) 24, Chicago (0-0) 6
Extremely impressive opening game. Defensively, we held them to 228 yards, had 4 sacks and 1 INT. On offense, we had a solid 155 yards rushing. Bart Starr was great, going 22/32 for 262 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT. Solid victory.

Week 2: Green Bay (1-0) 48, Tennessee (0-1) 10
Wow. We scored on every drive except for 1 before Bart Starr was taken out of the game. Defensively solid, with 4 sacks and 3 INTs. Running game was mediocre with 104 yards. But Starr was near perfect. 17/21 for 267 yards and 4 TDs! Dwight Harrison had his first career 100 yard game, with 108 yards on 3 catches and 1 TD, from 78 yards. Just dominating in this one.

Week 3: St. Louis (2-0) 31, Green Bay (2-0) 15
Another wow. We couldn't stop Roman Gabriel at all, as he had 338 yards and 3 TDs and was only sacked 3 times. Our running game had 84 yards, led by Bart Starr's 3 carries for 39 yards and 1 TD. Starr went 22/42 for 322 yards, 1 TD, and 2 INTs. Carroll Dale had 11 catches for 204 yards. So what made this game so bad? Bart Starr was sacked NINE times, 4.5 by Deacon Jones.

Week 4: Minnesota (2-1) 13, Green Bay (2-1) 23
Defensively we gave up 360 yards, but we had 5 sacks and 2 INTs. Our offense only had 66 yards rushing, but Starr was decent, going 24/40 for 242 yards. Kent McCloughan had a 49 yard INT TD return. However, there is serious bad news coming out of this game. Our star DE Lionel Aldridge suffered yet another concussion, and he'll be out for a LONG time with repetitive concussion syndrome. He'll miss the rest of this year, and probably won't play next year either. It'll be until 1974 before he can play again, and who knows if he'll still be the same, or even want to play.

Wow, both Franco Harris and Gale Sayers in your division... but any division without an "expansion team" is tough!

Week 5: New Orleans (1-3) 23, Green Bay (3-1) 27
Donny Anderson had a 1 yard run with 41 seconds left to win this one. Our running game racked up 179 yards in this one, led by Hampton with 122 yards. Starr went 20/35 for 234 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT. 3 sacks and 2 INTs on D.

Week 6: Green Bay (4-1) 33, Carolina (0-4-1) 3
We gave up just 218 yards here. 6 sacks and 4 INTs. Offensively we had 87 yards rushing. Starr went 24/34 for 260 yards and 2 TDs. Dominating win.

Week 7: Atlanta (4-2) 24, Green Bay (5-1) 29
Defensively we gave up 308 yards, with 4 sacks and 2 INTs. We only had 68 yards running. Starr went 24/37 for 306 yards, 2 TDs, but 3 INTs and 6 sacked. Wehmeyer had a PR for a TD from 54 yards in this one, helping us take the victory.

Week 8: BYE

Week 9: Green Bay (6-1) 34, Tampa Bay (1-6) 7
Talk about a dominating game. We only allowed 172 yards, with 1 sack and 2 turnovers forced. They held the ball for just 20:49. On offense, our running game had 166 yards, while Starr went 20/27 for 241 yards and 2 TDs. Their only score was on a blocked punt TD. Domating game.

Well at midseason we're 7-1, and look like a Super Bowl contender yet again. I can't brad too much on that though, we've had an easy schedule. The only winning team we've faced outside of our division was St. Louis, who is now 7-1. They beat us badly, so despite our team's great record, I don't know how good we really are. We're 4th in the league in scoring and 2nd in defensive scoring, so that's a plus. Bart Starr is on pace for another 4000 yard, 30 TD season, with a 96.7 rating. Carroll Dale has 43 catches and 653 yards already. Defensively, Ray Nitschke has over 50 tackles, and Willie Wood leads with 4 INTs. Fred Carr leads sacks with 5. Our defensive certainly suffers from Lionel ALdridge's injury. I think we'll win the division regardless, but it should be a tight race, with Detroit at 6-2 and no team under 500.

Week 10: Green Bay (7-1) 10, Detroit (6-2) 19
We gave up 405 yards here. McCullough had 169 yards receiving for them on 10 catches. Offensively, we had 109 yards rushing, but Starr struggled. Starr went 14/33 for 185 yards, 1 TD, and 3 INTs. Just a tough game here, knocking us to #2 in the division.

Week 11: Chicago (6-2-1) 3, Green Bay (7-2) 20
Nice recovery win here. Great defensive performance, allowing only 258 yards and 3 points. We had TEN sacks in this one. On offense, we had 167 yards rushing, led by Hampton's 91. Bart Starr went 14/23 for 141 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT. Solid victory here. A Detroit loss put us put us back in control of the division.

Week 12: Green Bay (8-2) 24, Houston (5-5) 27
A loss in overtime here. They had 451 yards of offense, but we caused 3 INTs. We turned it over twice however, and our offense was not great. 144 yards rushing was good, but where was Bart Starr? He went 20/30 for 188 yards, no TDs. Kent McCloughan had an INT returned 40 yards for a TD. Disappointing defense at the end, when they had an 80 yard TD pass with 12 seconds left to send it to OT. Disappointing loss, and I really don't know how good this team is this year. Detroit beat Indy, putting them back at 8-3 and in first place.

Week 13: Green Bay (8-3) 21, Washington (3-8) 17
Barely coming out on top of this one. We allowed 318 yards. We had 93 yards rushing, while Starr went 21/32 for 230 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs. Carroll Dale had 8 catches for 135 yards and 1 TD. We're now 9-3, with both Detroit and Minnesota at 8-4.

Week 14: Indianapolis (7-5) 17, Green Bay (9-3) 34
About time we have a good game. We held them to 299 yards, while causing Unitas to go just 15/31 for 134 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs. Offensively, we had 124 yards rushing, led by Hampton's 91. Starr went 27/37 for 338 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT. Solid win here, this game build's my confidence in our team. Detroit and Minnesota both won as well.

Week 15: Green Bay (10-3) 30, Minnesota (9-4) 24
Exciting game here. Starr hit Harrison from 30 yards out with 1:47 left to put us up 24-21. However, with 16 seconds left Fred Cox hit a 47 yard FG to tie it up at 24 and send it to OT. In overtime, Donny Anderson had a 1 yard TD run to win the game. We allowed 372 yards, had 3 sacks, and forced 3 turnovers. Offensively, we had 94 yards rushing, but Starr had a big game going 26/36 for 385 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT. Dale Had 10 catches for 157 yards. Solid wni here. We're at 11-3, with Detroit at 10-4, and Minnesota 9-5.

Week 16: Jacksonville (2-12) 16, Green Bay (11-3) 24
I'm really disappointed it was this close. We allowed 299 yards, with 6 sacks and 1 turnover forced. On offense, we had 150 yards rushing, but Starr was only mediocre. He went 22/33 for 237 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT. Easy win. We're at 12-3, with Detroit at 11-4, and us squaring off in the last game, winner taking the division. If we win, we also get homefield advantage.

Week 17: Detroit (11-4) 10, Green Bay (12-3) 7
Two of the best defensive units in the NFL, in 27 degrees and snow. We held them to 283 yards offense, but they held us to 201! We had only 67 yards rushing, and Starr went 19/34 for 134 yards. We had 3 interceptions, but it wasn't enough. Disappointing loss placing us in the first round of the playoffs.

Comments on the league this year: Most notible thing is that Cleveland, after going 29-3 the first two regular seasons, dropped to 8-8 here. Pittsburgh went from 5-11 to 11-5 to win that division. Indianpolis remains on top of their division, but keeps getting less and less wins. Miami and New Jersey continue to have close calls for that division champion. In the AFC West, no team was held under 400 points, and none of the defenses were bad (except for Denver). In the NFC Central, my Packers are finally knocked off the top spot, but still seem to be contenders. Gale Sayers helped Detroit win the division. The NFC South was a complete disaster. Dallas and Philly emerge out of nowhere in the NFC East. St. Louis continues to dominate their division with a top-notch defense year in and year out, but could this be the year they finally win in the playoffs? No clear cut favorites on the Super Bowl this year. The power ratings would say Oakland vs. St. Louis, but no one really knows.

Well the season was a good one, turning out our third straight 12-4 record. However, this year it was not good enough to win the division. Instead Gale Sayers leads Detroit to win the division. Bart Starr had a bad second half of the season, giving him his worst season yet for us. 3972 yards, 24 TDs, 16 INTs, and an 89.2 rating. Our running game remainde middle-of-the pack, with Hampton gaining over 800 yards and 4 TDs, while Anderson had over 500 yards and 5 TDs. Travis Williams, despite the fact that he only played 9 games, still put up all-pro type numbers with 150 yards rushing and 5 TDs. I think if he had a full season, he would have been all pro. Dale had another 1000 yard year, but his TDs continue to drop every year, this year to just 6. Harrison finished the year with 577 yards on 37 catches. Wehmeyer averaged 9 yards per punt return with 1 TD, down from averaging 16.3 last year. Hampton averaged 25.1 per KR. Livingston was 25/32 on FGs, including the 62 yarder he hit against Tennessee. 44/44 on PATs. Rogers averaged 39.7 yards punting, 25 inside 20 on 82 punts. Nitschke had all-pro caliber numbers with 110 tackles and 4 sacks, and Doug Hart led the team with 6 interceptions. Our first playoff game is on the road in Atlanta. It's dumb that a 12-4 team has to go on the road in the playoffs against a 7-9 team that just happens to be in the worst division in NFL history. Atlanta's record outside the division was 2-8, yet they're hosting a playoff game. We beat a much better Atlanta team in the playoffs last year, so I think we should be able to handle them this year. We're 4 point favorites going into Atlanta.

The game was scoreless until the second quarter when Vinyard hit an 18 yard FG to put Atlanta up 3-0. That was the score at halftime! I was so disappointed in my offense. Just 113 total yards at halftime. Something is seriously wrong with my offense right now. We should be dominating this game. Our first possession of the second half was a nice drive, until Hilton fumbled it at Alanta's 25 and Hansen recovered. On our next possession, Bart Starr threw an interception to Hansen at our 26! Wages capitalized with a 3 yard TD run to put the Falcons up 10-0. That was the score going into the fourth quarter. Then, Berry hit Snyder for a 33 yard TD, putting them up 17-0! On our next drive, Starr threw another interception to Hansen, which was returned to our 5 yard line. Luckily, Ike Kelly intercepted the next one at our 3. We finally got our first score with 5:19 left when Travis Williams had a 20 yard TD run to close the gap to 17-7. However, that was our last score, and that was the final score. A 17-7 loss to a 7-9 team in the playoffs. A disguting loss. Our defense was okay, but where was our offense? We had just 82 yards rushing, and Starr was AWFUL. He went 23/45 for 244 yards, 3 INTs, and was sacked 6 times. Carroll Dale 9 catches for 104 yards. Atlanta's Don Hansen had one of the best defensive games I've ever seen a player have in the playoffs: 10 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 interceptions.

So, a disappointing end to a season where I thought we were Super Bowl contenders. What happened to that 7-1 start? St. Louis went on to defeat Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl, 24-14 in complete dominance. Terry Bradshaw, a great up and coming QB, went just 8/25 for 110 yards and 1 TD in his first super bowl appearance. The Steelers were held to just 178 yards, while Willie Ellison was Super Bowl MVP for St. Louis, carrying the ball 38 times for 170 yards and 1 TD, with 7 catches for 55 yards. He outgained the entire Pittsburgh team and set a new playoff record for rushing yards and rushing attempts. St. Louis's D set a new playoff record for total and passing yards allowed. Willie Ellison also became the first player in modern (post 1970) NFL history to get the quadfecta: League MVP, Super Bowl MVP, Offensive Player of the Year, and First Team All-Pro.

Wow, both Franco Harris and Gale Sayers in your division... but any division without an "expansion team" is tough!

Yeah, Detroit should be a tough rival now that they have Gale Sayers, they're very tough. Even without Sayers, the Bears still have a good team because of their defense. And Minnesota could be very dangerous once Franco Harris gets going, his running numbers are all very good/excellent. He only got 3 carries his rookie year because he's stuck behind 3 veterans, but all 3 are over 7 years of experience and have their contract up either this year or next. He could end up being a big time runner.

Even if we escape a potentially tough division, the Rams look like they could be on top for a couple years themselves. I honestly don't see my team as a Super Bowl team for a couple of years for a few reasons. Our team is an old team, so the players on the team aren't getting any better. We should still be a winning team with draft picks in the 20's, so I don't see us getting any superstars like that.

Anyways, thanks for posting. Keep the feedback coming, I love it. :) I'm gonna start reading the one you posted with Tampa Bay.

Huge year by Willie Ellison, I have wondered how he got to be so good, in real life he only had one 1000-yd season. He was absolutely dominating in my own game, rivaling Sayers as the best ever up to the 1980s.

Maybe I should adjust the ratings a little for some selected players.

Well I just noticed something I had not previously noticed... a ton of players with post-1980 birthdays in my league. I had never thought to check, I didn't think they would be in the draft files, but now it kind of ruins the whole experience for me. In addition with the whole 2003 stadium renovation thing, it kind of makes it unplayable for me, therefore, sorry to say, but I'm gonna stop this dynasty now. Those problems, since they're already in my league, are too much for me. Sorry.
