ZOO OWNER'S SUSPECT BBQS

A zoo owner is being investigated over allegations he ate his own wild animals.

It is suspected Joerg Schlechte may have used the zoo as his personal larder.

He has already been fined for roasting pot-bellied pigs during a drunken barbeque.

But now police in Germany are looking into the fate of a host of missing animals.

They include a small buffalo, rabbits, donkeys, goats, racoons, parrots, a wild boar and even three Shetland ponies.

The animals were found missing when the zoo in Meissen, eastern Germany, was taken over by new owners.

Schlechte claims he gave the animals to female helpers who had looked after them.

But witnesses have told police they ate hunks of suspicious meat at Schlechte's BBQs, according to the German newspaper Das Bild.

"The suspicion is monstrous. Was the zoo also his personal larder?" the newspaper asked.

Schlechte has already been fined £1,500 after admitting eating the pigs.

He could be jailed for up to two years if the other animals cannot be traced.

I like the use of the word "larder."

And, if they were his animals at the time, why the hell shouldn't he be allowed to eat them?

See my point above.

I mean, this is Germany, for cryin' out loud. Is there an animal that they DON'T eat?

While in Switzerland one time, my father mis-translated a menu at a nice little restaurant. He thought that he was ordering a fish fillet, but when the meal came out it was actually some sort of red meat. He decided to go ahead and eat it anyways, and half way through the meal it finally clicked in his head as to what the menu had said.

My dad had accidentally ordered a nice, juicy horsemeat fillet. And he ate every single bite, too. Well, except for the bite that he gave to me. And it was actually pretty damn good eatin'!
