Figured it'd be good to get a list of FOFC online usernames. I don't have the game yet, and haven't decided whether to go with Kodos yet, or branch off with something different. Hopefully tonight I will find the package waiting at home for me.

What exactly do you need to play online? I have a cable modem already for my internet connection, but I just wanted to know how to get my PS2 ready for online play.

An evil man would rush online and pick Kodos now.

In response to what you need to play online, you need to purchase a PS2 Network Adaptor. You can plug the cable right into this or a much better but more expensive solution, which would be to get a router and some network wire and split the cable modem between your CPU and PS2

I picked:

KodostheEAWhoreonhisknees

Guess you'll have to find something else Kodos.

Damn, not only do I need to save up an extra $50 for NCAA 2004, but also an extra $50 for X-Box Live so that I can have Jordan Palmer throw all over some of you fools (or more likely get sacked eight times a game)...

Xbox version does not have online support

Kodos

Perhaps, in honor of my Hurryin' Hoosiers, I should go with "11th out of 10."

Why the hell not? That's freakin stupid.

Oh well, guess that I can save my money on the X-Box Live then...

Because Microsoft won't allow EA to use EA.com as the underlying infrastructure for the online segment of the game, rather than Xbox Live.

Because Microsoft won't share their clients' billing information with EA, thereby preventing EA from spamming you with promotional postcards and the like for future games.

Because EA has something of a stick up their ass as the largest software publisher in the world, and they feel like *they* should dictate the terms under which they'll provide content to the game consoles, as opposed to following the terms set forth by the companies who make platforms for their content available in the first place.

I could continue, but I won't.

Heh wow. That may be the first time I have ever seen Microsoft painted as the victim. :)

Pretty much the only reason I got an X-Box instead of a PS2 is because I wanted to be able to watch DVD's on my console as well as play games, and I had heard from quite a few people that PS2's get jacked up if you watch too many DVDs on them...

Pretty lame reason to choose one console over another I guess...

I don't know if 'victim' is the right word here, but what it boils down to is that EA is throwing a pissy fit. They're wanting preferential treatment when it comes to putting their games on Xbox Live, and because they're not getting it, they're effectively taking their ball and going home.

Look, I have no problem with it if Microsoft wants to ease royalty requirements to help EA make a larger profit. Nintendo did it in the past with the NES and the SNES, so the precedentis certainly there. If that would be enough to make EA happy, fantastic.

But EA has absolutely no right to my billing information without my consent. I've provided it to Microsoft, and that should be enough considering that the games are all routed through Xbox Live and not independently the way PS2 online games currently are.

I hope Sega Sports take advantage of Microsoft's XSN initiative. I really do. Between the MS titles (some of which WILL be worth playing. Top Spin, Amped 2, Project Gotham 2) and Sega titles using that initiative, I wouldn't ever need to touch an EA title again. Online LEAGUES? FREE? If I'm not mistaken, EA aren't doing that yet, and if/when they do, I would bet 10 bucks that they'll charge on a per season basis for it.

Josh

One could also look at it as Microsoft wanting to do it their way, and EA telling them to "Bite me." EA wants to set up their own version of Live with their own servers. It is their right to do what they want to with their games. Finally, somebody who Microsoft can't bully into doing it their way. I say "bravo" to EA. :) Keep on fighting the good fight.

"Finally, somebody who Microsoft can't bully into doing it their way. I say "bravo" to EA. Keep on fighting the good fight."

But I wonder how much money EA will lose to SEGA because SEGA's games will have XBox Live support and EA's won't...

EA's getting cocky, but they aren't getting funny, and I think this attitude they have will be their eventual downfall. (as it is with most big companies).

Notably, beating some punk who kept going for it on 4th down (and failing) was all the more satisfying because it was IU vs. Purdue. :D

Since I bought a new PS2, I have to reconfig. my internet settings.

It asks for a phone number to use, and since I use cable, I'm always online, so how would I know what number to dial to?
