Which Computer Gaming Magazine do you recommend?

I'm thinking of getting one, which do you consider the best? I dont care much for the demo disks so that shouldnt be a factor

I like PC Gamer, I find it to be a more enjoyable read and less 'geeky' than some of the other ones.

The three I know of are PC Gamer, Computer Gaming World, and Computer Games.

That third one must of taken a person with a lot of creativity. :)

CGQ is the worst of the three, IMO. Computer Games I would say is #1. But that's just my opinion. It's a close #1 and #2.

On thing, one of the reviewers in PC Gamer stated that he thought Baseball Mogul 2004 was the best game he's ever played. Took PC Gamer down quite a few nothces for that statement. :)

One redeeming quality of PC Gamer is William Trotter (?). He's the guy who reviews the wargames. I also liek the RPG guy. The rest are not too good.

None of them are very good in my opinion, but PC Gamer comes the closest to being the best. PC Gamer has changed in the past few years to being a "fanboy" magazine. I think that most reviews are on target, but it severely predisposes itself to intel and nVidia products.

Computer Games specifically targets the more "mature' audience, and it shows. PC Gamer, while providing generally good coverage, is too sophomoric. CGW is the happy medium. Go with Computer Games.

I've been a subscriber to PC Gamer for years. They aren't as good as they used to be, but they are still the best.

I just started subscribing to Computer Games - just have received 2 issues so far. I like it; it's got pretty good content and is written at a MUCH more mature level than PCG.

one drawback to Computer Games - the layout/design of the magazine is horrible.

CGW? no clue - the other 2 are enough.

dola, despite the obvious immature skew to PC Gamer (definitely catering to a younger crowd), I think their reviews by far are the most fair and accurate overall (that includes the various online review sites).

I would recommend getting either Gamespot Complete or IGN Insider before getting a computer game magazine. While I think that William Trotter and the Hardware reviews almost make it worth getting PC Gamer (the best of the computer game magazines) in the end I think the fact that the online one's I mention have much quicker reviews make them a more worthwhile investment.

Not to mention for Gamespot, you can download all the videos. That's the reason I got it.

It's amazing how different people can view the same thing. To me, CGW (more so) and PC Gamer (excepting William Trotter) are moronic and juvenile, basically insulting to read. I discovered Computer Games last fall and have recently started a subscription to it for 12 issues/$9.99. The three issues that I've read of CG, starting with the RRT3 preview, really impressed me with its more mature writing style and presentation aimed at grown ups.

none. read the forums at gonegold.com - you will get a wider variety of opinion, more passion, more experience and more knowledge - you'll learn way more about what is a good game or not than you can from the limited space in a magazine that may well be a pawn of the games companies (due to advertising...)

Computer Games is good, but I hate the layout. Something just doesn't seem righ to me when I read it. Plus they can, at times, almost try to get too high brow. I think just to spite the other two big name mags that cater to the younger corwd.

I like PC Gamer, though it has gone downhill some. I usually find myself closer to agreeing with their reviews.

CGW always sems to be too much like some columns wrapped in advertisements, half the time it seems like you can;t tell which are which.

Granted, PC Gamer has also been getting swamped with adds much more than they used to.

Overall I would say to go with PC Gamer. If Computer Games can figure it out, than they could become a very good magazine.

I definately second the suggestion to get gamespot complete or ign insider. Print stuff cannot keep up with net news at this point and both those online sites do good jobs with news. However, if you need something in your hands to read rather than a net source, well, I don't know since I haven't had a gaming magazine in forever.
