Lopez and Affleck To Marry in September?

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck will become Hollywood's premiere husband and wife in early September, according to reports in America. The Gigli pair have now settled on a prenuptial agreement, and according to Star magazine's Victoria Gotti, Ben and Jen will walk down the aisle in a matter of months. Affleck's brother Casey will be best man, with his Good Will Hunting co-star Matt Damon appearing as groomsman - whilst Lopez's sister Leslie and Lynda will carry out matron and maid of honor duties, respectively. Lopez's representative remains skeptical about reports however, commenting, "If every date that was rumored for them to get married was true, they would have been married six times by now."

Anyone wants to wager whether this celebrity arrangement will last more than a year?

Julia Roberts in Heart Scare

America's sweetheart Julia Roberts …

It lost me right there. I certainly didn’t vote for this dog as America’s sweetheart. I do wish her well, though.

Pacino Custody Battle Gets Ugly

Movie legend Al Pacino came face to face with his ex-wife yesterday in a bitter battle over their twin toddlers. The 63-year-old Godfather star is fighting actress Beverly D'Angelo for joint custody of the two-year-olds. The pair met in a heated Manhattan, New York court battle yesterday. Pacino has previously accused 48-year-old Beverly - who had Olivia and Anton through IVF treatment - of holding the youngsters "hostage". Pacino's lawyer Martin Wasser said, "Beverly continues to use the kids in a way that makes them hostages. She literally makes us feel that we are in the baby rental business. Every hour that Al wants to spend with a child, she wants to be paid more money." But D'Angelo's lawyer Dan Klores hit back, "The conduct of Al Pacino's attorney has been reprehensible. There should not be a mother in America who isn't appalled by his language, deceptions and untruths. "He's trying to make a name for himself by attacking the mother of two children." The case continues.

Two thoughts. Wasn’t there a scene in a famous movie like this? Second, time and time again, lawyers and publicists respond by attacking the character instead of the specific charges.

Travolta Smarts Over 'Chicago'

Hollywood star John Travolta hates anyone mentioning the musical movie hit Chicago - because he's still furious he turned down the lead role. The Pulp Fiction actor was originally offered the starring role in the 2003 Oscar-winning musical, but passed on the chance because he wasn't convinced the ambitious project would be a big screen success. However, with fellow middle-aged sex symbol Richard Gere in to the role, the Rob Marshall directed flick turned into one of the most successful movies of the year. When asked about it in a recent interview Travolta smarted, "You're rubbing salt in my wounds! I'm still angry with myself that I turned down the role of the lawyer in Chicago that Richard Gere then got."

File this under, “beggars shouldn’t be choosers”. This is from an actor who has a recent string of awful bombs and he turns down a role because it wasn’t going to be a big success? Methinks “Chicago’ (if you assume it was a good flick) may not have been a big success if it had Travolta in the role instead of Gere.

Depp's Dope Plans for His Kids

Movie hunk Johnny Depp will buy marijuana for his kids when they start showing an interest in the drug because he fears street dealers will cheat them. The liberally-minded actor - and father to Lily-rose, four, and baby Jack - is convinced the gesture will help keep his children away from more dangerous drugs. Depp, married to French actress Vanessa Paradis, says, "Out on the street, you never know what you're getting and suddenly two days later, you're beating yourself in the head with a tennis racket, wearing a towel and quoting Poe. You don't want that for your kid."

Hey asshole, how about keeping children away from drugs – period. It’s not that hard, you just have to be a responsible and conscienceable parent, which from the sound of it, you ain’t one.

For some reason, I cannot see you reading this kind of stuff for entertainment. I just didn't picture you as the Hollywood gossip type.

I agree with you on pretty much all points . . .

. . . but I have to wonder if you thought you were in danger of losing your position as resident curmudgeon.

If so, your position is safe with this post.

Who would you even have in mind for a replacement?

Anyone really take a good look at Julia Roberts in Ocean's 11. Kinda reminded me of bridging the gap between Pretty Woman Julia that wrinkly old chick in Something About Mary. Age does not become her well. And no, I didn't vote for her as America's sweetheart either.

Leonidas, that was the one movie (one of my top 10 favorites) that convinced me. Her normally awful lips looked really grotesque in certain scenes (esp. the closeups at the dining table) and her gait in walking through the casino was laugh-out-loud funny even though it wasn't supposed to be.

So ergo, if a kid has ever done any drugs, their parents were not responsible and conscienceable?

What a brilliant take. He did not say he was going to force drugs on them. He was saying, if they have decided they are going to do it, he isn't going to let some street punk lace it with something or rob them. I don't have a problem with it.

Drugs are here to stay. Finding ways to make it safer are far preferable to pretending it does not happen and people getting killed over it.

Bump.

Maybe it's just the holiday mood overtaking me, but I need another dose of "The Curmudgeon's Hollywood Minute" to take the saccharine edge off.

What say you Bucc/Anrh? Are you up for another?

P.S. I also would not object if this became a weekly feature on FOFC.

My parents were responsible and consceinceable and I still found myself cooking up crack cocaine for hours at a time a year or two ago. There's nothing like going out to get $30 worth of rock 5-6 times a night when you could have made one trip and purchased an eightball for $75-80 from most street dealers.

But, I doubt that if my parents had introduced me to marijuana instead of my friends I would have stopped with that harmless drug...

I don't think it'd be possible to come up with a quote I'd disagree with more.

Equally? Yeah, that'd probably be easy.
More? Damn, that'd be a chore.

Since some folks are hung up on making excuses to do drugs, I’ll counter with a typical anti-drug post. I think many of the reasons for kids doing or not doing drugs come from whether the message is clear and unambiguous, esp. from parents, peers and authority figures. My parents (along with teachers and pastors) were conscionable and responsible enough to make it clear to me that doing drugs is not an option and the reasons why. In other words, they didn’t say “if you do happen to do drugs, be careful…” or “keep it real” or some other vague phrases that will be perceived as a message that it can be encouraged (since it was not totally discouraged) or at least, eventual. I have been to many parties where tokes, vials and lines were passed around and available. I declined each and every time because it was made clear to me (from family, teachers, pastors, etc.) not to do it. Remember, I came right out of the late 60s and early 70s where recreational drugs were new and controversial. My beef with Mr. Depp is that when the kids read that (now or later), they will think that they will eventually do drugs and when they do, be careful. I can say, from personal experience, that doing drugs is never eventual and it takes a constant message of deterrent to reduce or eliminate doing drugs.

As far as the rest of the stuff, not interested.

I had it made very clear to me that doing drugs was not a good thing, and was filled with reasons why.

I still smoked pot.

I of course found out that many of the reasons I was told not to do drugs were bogus, but then again that was after I smoked a forest of weed, so I guess either way I still would have done it.

The "War on Drugs" is far more dangerous to most of the people in this country than legalization would be.
