Screamin’ Seamen Season 3 MVP Voting

We’ve decided to do things a little differently this time around. Instead of club management and other officials determining the Team MVP for the past season, as in years past, we’ve decided to leave it up to you, the fans. Please take the time to vote for one of the following five players as the Screamin’ Seamen Season 3 MVP!

Keeper Cornelius “Corny” Jernigan

A good keeper is worth his weight in gold, and we’re convinced that “Corny” Jernigan is a good one. Corny came to the club during our second season, and performed admirably this past year, despite adverse conditions. He was an iron man for us in net, starting sixteen times, including all fourteen league matches. In those sixteen matches, he only allowed 22 goals (1.38 GAA) and earned seven clean sheets. Especially important was his clean-sheet performance in our relegation match at the end of the season, when he made one lone goal by SSFC stand up for a 1-nil victory.

Wingback Arlen “Headcase” Lucas

Skill-wise, Arlen “Headcase” Lucas was the best of the back three this past season. Although he only scored one goal in his fifteen starts, he was dominant on defense, particularly so in the air. Unless I am mistaken, the club did not allow a single header goal all season while Arlen was on the pitch. “Headcase” is a bit of a headcase, however, and was suspended on two separate occasions last season. Arlen earned eight Team Match MVP awards in his fifteen starts.

Midfielder Charlie Bautista

Charlie got off to a rough start last season, with defensive blunders in his first two matches. He recovered admirably, though, and was the best overall player of our middle three last season. Quietly productive, he scored three goals in his fifteen starts for the club last season, and was yellow-carded only once on the season.

Forward Forrest “Gump” Tobias

The offense for the Screamin’ Seamen was woeful last season, but not for any lack of effort on the part of Forrest “Gump” Tobias. The 21-year-old striker started in fourteen league and cup matches for SSFC last season, and scored nine goals in the process. Seven of those goals were in league play, which may not seem like much, but is worthy of consideration when you consider that the entire team only scored 22 league play goals all season.

Midfielder Pete “The Old Goat” Tomlin

The sentimental favorite to win this year’s Team MVP award, Pete “The Old Goat” Tomlin has always been an important part of the club, and was one of the team’s original members. Past his prime and fighting through several minor injuries, Pete saw the pitch fourteen times for the Seamen in Season 3. Though his contributions were quiet throughout the season, he came through when it mattered most. Tomlin’s lone goal of the season came at the best possible time, during the club’s relegation match against Jedi Mind Tricks. That one goal was all the club would need to avoid relegation and remain in Division IV.
