View Full Version : Anyone ever experience this sort of thing? What would you classify it as anyway?

Alright, every once in a while I have these weird occurances where something or some person crosses my mind for no apparent reason, and then almost magically within a short period of time (a few days or so usually), something appears in the news or in a magazine or on TV about this person or issue.
For instance, a few days ago for some unknown reason, former L.A. Kings owner and convicted embezzler Bruce McNall popped into my mind. I really have no clue why, but it made me think, just what has happened to this guy anyway? Last time I heard he was doing some much deserved time in a Federal "Pound Me in the Ass" Prison.
Anyway, the thought quickly fades as I move onto more important issues of the day and I think nothing of it..
Now moving on, yesterday I get my weekly edition of The Sporting News in the mail and take a quick scan through to check out some of the stories (Great Magazine by the way). Low and behold what do I see in one of the first few pages but a short "Whatever Happened to.." type article concerning Bruce McNall himself.
Weird...
Another strange occurance that I can remember offhand is thinking to myself, "I haven't seen such-and-such movie in a while, I'd like to check it out again, maybe it'll be on one of these days", and then as I start flipping through the channels, wah-lah (sp? Who the hell has ever spelled that word anyway?) there it is.
What the heck is this? Some small ESP type ability or what?

My guess is pure coincidence. Because you had recently thought of McNall, you were more cognizant of his mention.
As for the movie, I'd blame your subconcious. You probably heard an advertisement for it, that you really didn't pay attention to, or weren't aware of. But subconciously your mind registered the "ad" and later on "moved" it into your conciousness. Then, voila the movie comes on and you feel all psychic.
Of course Kodos could have insterted an alien probe while you were sleeping an is now controlling your thoughts.

I was just thinking, "MylesKnight hasn't started a thread on pseudo-ESP, I wonder if he has." And then wah-lah

If you're psychic, you would have known that you were going to have to delete the thread, so you wouldn't have posted it in the first place.

I have experienced something like that, it's like when you're thinking about a Plate O' Shrimp, and then somebody says "Plate O' Shrimp" and then you see a sign that says Plate O' Shrimp? Weird.

Why do I envision an appearance by Jason Tobias IV? Oh, maybe it's because I have ESP.
How many others thought that a voila was a musical instrument? :D

Someone on this board gave the best explanation for this type of "phenomena," by asking how many people or things do you think of everyday without hearing anything more about?

You know, just the other day I was wondering what it would take to get Jon Gruden to dance in public in his jock strap.

endeavor ever more towards indirect disinformation.
This phenomenon is typical, not unusual. All kinds of thoughts cross our minds during the day. Most of the time, there is no subsequent connection. So when you think about someone or something and then there is a connection shortly afterwards, you tend to remember it. You don't remember all the other thoughts for which there was no connection.

Kinda like how you can never remember all those ugly fat chicks you slept with, but you always remember the ones with giant knockers and a sweet body hunh?

MK, I had a topic on this a few months ago where Quik let in that your mind thinks of so many things in the course of a day, when you see it again for a second time, you think it is odd. But if you don't notice it another time, you just don't remember or you forget about it.
But that is weird because just yesterday someone was talking about caulking in my garage and then I go to FOFC and for the first time ever read about caulking here. :)

And once again I fail to read the rest of the thread before posting, as I see Swaggs brought it up, and Quik rang the bell.
