I know I wasn't exactly a top board draw, but for the 1 or 2 (HFP) who followed my TCU, TCY dynasty, it ended about 3 months ago, as did my coming to the board, with a note of my father's illness and having to be taken care of and so forth.
Anyway, we buried my father yesterday and I wanted to let anyone who wondered or actually might have remembered know that, while he did not resemble himself towards the end (as anyone who ever dealt with cancer can probably imagine), it was a peacful death and lots (300 or so) of people came to remember him at University Christian Church (on TCU campus).
Thanks for letting me get that out. This board was always, and I am sure still is, a great place to go for sharing, caring and laughing at oneself (and LOTS of others. :) )

Michael,
I'm sorry to hear about your father's passing. I'm glad you were able to spend some time with him, and I'm glad his passing was peaceful.

I am sorry for your loss. Cancer is indeed a horrible disease, which I lost my mother to years ago. My thoughts are with you.

I offer my deepest regrets on your father's passing.
I lost my father several years ago. His passing was also a peaceful one, and I'm glad this was the case for you. I think it is wonderfull that you got to spend time with him near the end. For me the 6 months between when he was diagnosed with cancer and the time he died was full of painful memories. However, as time passes, those painful memories will fade and the good memories will become even sweeter.

I lost my best friend to cancer two years ago. He was only 26. At the end, you could hardly recognize him. It's a horrible disease, and a tragic thing to be stricken with. You have my utmost sympathy.

I'm sorry for your loss. I use a little poem that was written for a cancer victim when I do funeral for one who has passed. I don't have an author's name:
Cancer is so limited….
It cannot cripple love
It cannot shatter hope,
It cannot corrode faith,
It cannot eat away peace,
It cannot kill friendship,
It cannot shutout memories
It cannot silence courage,
It cannot invade the soul
It cannot reduce eternal life
It cannot quench the spirit
It cannot lesson the power of the resurrection.
