View Full Version : CM4: Workaround for heading problem in EP5

I came across this at SI and thought I would post it here. There is still a problem with the heading training schedule that we can fix ourselves by doing the following:
Open data/training/heading.tat in notepad, and replace it's contents with the following:
version=1
type=Outfield
display_name=Heading
description=Heading exercises help your players to strengthen their neck muscles and get distance on headers. As well as improving their ability to clear the ball quickly and efficiently from dangerous situations, your players will get better at flick-ons, knock-downs and scoring headers.
Fitness=5
Ball control=0
Movement=0
Team work=5
Set pieces=7
Shot stopping=0
Tactics=2
Shooting=0
Reflexes=0
NOTE: You unfortunately have to start a new career for this to take effect.

Alternative to this is to use 'Set Piece' training to compensate where you'd put in 'Heading' training.
Its not quite 100% as effective (but does help other areas more) but you won't have to restart a game.

Is this a new problam arising from EP5? Or is it something that just got missed?
In my current CM4 career (which I have no intention of restarting), I have my assistant manager handling training - am I going to be screwed as a result, as he will probably be training heading without my direction?
Either way, thanks for the pointers.

I believe the .tat file was fixed for EP5 but someone forgot to include with the new installation (or something to that effect). So it isn't something arising from EP5. Either way, it isn't really a big deal I don't think.
I'm actually more concerned about the decline of the positioning attribute that I've read about (officially unconfirmed) but mentioned by a reputable poster who has done a lot of play testing with the various training regimes.

If it matters any, Karim, Marc is aware of that one (I told him about it myself, although I don't know if he had heard about it before I came along).
He told me that statistics gurus among their testers were satisfied with the player development curves in EP5. Described the testers as the kind of guys who do years of player development testing and analysis and the like.
So it's possible this might be a pre-EP5 issue. I have noticed something along these lines in my current game as well, but it, too, is a continued save game from before the completed EP5. Do you know if this problem has arisen in new games started up in EP5?
I read some of the same threads as you did over there, which is why I checked and eventually brought it up to Marc (just this morning in fact). I have now started a new game under the new EP5 where I plan to check it as well.

You'll be largely ok as the AI uses balanced regimes and it won't crippple this in any way ...

Positioning - I'm keeping an eye on this at the moment, its too early for me to decide if there is a 'problem' there or not ....

Thanks, that's reassuring.

Lyssien (over at SI) checked it out in a new career with EP5 and he's apparently seen the problem. I play much too slowly to notice any changes but I do find it odd that many defenders have greater off the ball than positioning ratings (at least on my team).
Again, this may all be a figment of the imagination and there could be no problem at all...
