LAHTI, Finland (Thursday, August 14, 2003) – The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team topped Korea Republic today 6-1 in Lahti Stadium in Lahti, Finland, as the team opened the 2003 FIFA Under-17 World Championship. Freddy Adu netted the second hat trick ever for the U.S. at the championship, as Brandon Owens, Jamie Watson and Steve Curfman also found the back of the net. Two teams records were set - one for most goals scored in a world championship and the second was for margin of victory. He would add goals 89th and 90th minute, with the third coming on a penalty kick. Owens was redeemed in the 27th minute, as he tallied the game-winner.
