Someone on another message board pointed out something that I think might work to make Madden playable. You need to do four things:

1. Turn on your pass blocking all the way to max.

2. Turn the CPU's defensive break blocking to zero.

3. Turn the CPU's "defensive awareness" to zero.

4. Make sure play calling leaves someone in the backfield with the QB. Keeping just the TE in can be ok, but still risky. Much better if it was a FB or TB. No play-action.

Now, you may guess that is going to open up the run. Well, it does somewhat. But if you turn down your Breaktackle and up the CPU's tackling, it should balance out. I've only tried one game, and the sack problem is clearing up (only 3 sacks given up versus Tampa Bay!). Still need a little more time with it. Anyone else have any input?

Please post your results/feelings on these settings. Your analysis will decide whether I buy it or not. Thanks!

Sounds good Grantdawg, I'll have to give these settings a shot later on when I get home.

Good work as always. Let me know your results.

It is going to take some tweaking. The defense plays a little to dumb with the settings this low. I need to teast it with teams other than my dynasty team. I have a theory on what the problem is, though. It is the playmaker function. The computer creates situations were you are to tell the blocker to pick up the man. If you don't tell them thay run right by them to get the QB. That, and of course the computer has your guy hold the ball too long.

Well over at another message board, some people were talking about this:

Basically the problem seems to be that the qb is taking a 3-4 step drop. If you go in with the play editor and change the plays to 1-2 step drop, then the problem is alleviated. I guess this will only work for the PC version, as there's no play editor for the XBOX or PS2 version. All and all , I'm not even sure if I'm going to do this just to play coach only mode. I think I'll hold my breath and wait for a patch, although this is a solution if the never fix this problem.

It really is fairly easy to edit the plays, all you need to do is:

-Make a custom playbook(some plays already included)
-Import the one's you want to use from others or have created
-Load up the passing plays, change the QB "drop logic"(a simple drop down menu allows for this).
-Once you are done save the playbook.

I'd say that it can easily be done in 30-45 minutes once you have the plays you want in place.

cool, so I guess you'll be the volunteer for this experiment! j/k. I think we should give this a shot to see if it has any merit.

Well, I've already edited some but won't be able to play for awhile.

Cool, I'm in the same boat. Maybe Grantdawg will come along and give us his take on all this mess.

Truthfully, I've pretty much given up. I'm going to pick up the PC version if they ever patch it.

On other "coach only" news, I have been playing NCAA 04 on varsity and it has been much better. I am actually completing too many passes now. Has anyone made any changes on the NCAA sliders?
