For the first time, I got to see OU play. EVen if it was a scrimmage. I think there was betweek 20 and 25k people their. Basically the whole lower west side was full.
The offense was pretty bad most of the day. White didnt impress me any today. He looked to be to easily shaken in the pocket. I didnt get to see brent rawls play today. I think the second string QB Paul thompson will be something to watch next year, or even this year if White is hurt.
The defense played really well too. I was impressed how this defense is good even after losing some great players.
We didnt get to see much of special teams. So I cant comment on them..
I think OU will use the north texas game to help improve their squad. Even though I dont like White, I hope he has matured more, and will not make as many mistakes.

texas had a scrimmage yesterday as well
chance mock looked decent, not as god as he has been in practice. vince young looked . . . godlike. he runs past db's like they aren't even moving. its incredible. i really hope he starts against ou. with greg davis as oc, it may be our only chance
the right side of the ol, mike garcia and justin blalock, are awesome. the left side is decent. the center position, which has sucked for 4 years straight (sorry ass dt tommie harris had TWO sacks all year, both against texas), finally was going to be good.. jason glynn was going to get replaced by will allen. but guess who decides to strain a tendon in his snapping hand? allen. so glynn is still in there, sucking it up hardcore
the skill positions are incredible. they have been handicapped i nthe past by a lousy ol and oc. the ol is improved, so hopefully cedric benson and selvin young can have a hole or two to run through. at wr, there may not be a better group anywhere. hope they can get a chance to show what they can do this year
the defenive line id great, too. the dt's are as deep as anyones. rod wright, marcus tubbs, marco martin, tully janzen and stevie lee are all guys i wouldn't want to face. the de's are a little thinner, but have preformed well. freshman tim crowder will be a great one. the starters, brain pickryl and kalen thornton, are good, but need to stay healthy
the lb's are sick talented, but it doesn't matter, since we don't have a lb coach, so they run around like chickens with their heads cut off. and even though reed boyd is our 6th or 7th bets lb, he will still start since he's carl reeses pet. i hate carl reese
db's are awesome. nathan vsher is a top 10 pick in the draft this year. the guys behind him are young, though. ced griffin, aaron ross, and several freshman have all looked great so far. little brandon foster, all 5'9 of him, looks to be the best cover guy on the team so far. at safety, micheal huff, dak pearson, and phillip gieggar have all looked good
so basically, im exicted, but its a guarded optimism. even though this is mack's most talented team, i'm taking an i'll believe it when i see it approach to the season
sorry that went on so long

I was at the scrimmage too, Airhog, and I bet there were about 15-20k there. Anyway, the offense is not going to look that great against the number defense. And while the number one defense is one of the best in the nation, if not the best as some experts have said, its not simply for that reason. When you run a limited playbook against a defense that knows what you are going to run, you are going to look silly. Whenever the less experienced second unit was playing against the offense, the players looked better.
Jason White kind of scares me back there. I know he can do good things...look at how he handled 2001 Texas. I know he can be mediocre, look at 2002 Tulsa. However, I think he's a guy I can kind of trust back there. Not as much as Heupel, but he's on about Hybl level after the 'Bama game last year...probably not before because I still remembered 2001 OSU and that whole deal.
Paul Thompson looked good against the second teamers. I think he shows a lot of composure back there, something necessary for a quarterback, and pretty impressive for a true sophomore backup...as the cliche goes, one play away from being the quarterback.
As far as the running game goes, I thought Renaldo looked the best of the first set of backs (Jones and himself) and Hickson looked the best of the second set. How come Hickson hasn't separated himself yet?
Defense looked good, didn't really allow big plays. Of course, they know what's coming, but at the same time, they didn't know the exact play. Michael Thompson had a big hit on Lance Donley. A couple of tipped ball INTs as well.
In all, its the last major scrimmage before the season starts, as the next one will feature mostly the reserves. All in all, I can't wait for the North Texas, and unfortunately, since I'll be going to school about 800 miles away, I will only be able to go to two OU games this year, unless I decide to pay money to fly to Dallas for OU/Texas, which may seem worth it until I realize I don't have quite the disposable income when I'm by myself.

I would love to be able to attend the OU-Texas game. I think even my gf would enjoy it. The news reported 17k there. I have to agree with what you said 100%
Works looks to be a good RB, but he just doesnt have the magic that Quentin had. I think if the O-line can gel well this season White should improve his game. He still seems to get way to nervous anytime there is alot of pressure on him to throw. But if he has time, he seems to deliver the ball well.
I heard some people chatting about Rawls in the stands. Apparently he is not well liked.
Also did you notice that Thompson never hung out with the other blue shirts? I wonder if he doesnt get along with some of them or something.
