After years with FOF2 and TCY, just ordered FOF4. Started reading through the help file on the demo, and was wondering if anyone had thoughts on how to set up the game for the first time?

Specifically, I'd like to hear thoughts on...

-- using the complete draft vs. preference draft,
-- the full x-factor vs. a reduced x-factor,
-- the original player file or alternate player file,
-- what you would do differently if you started a new FOF4 career.

I don't want to have current NFL players in my file, as I wouldn't want the x-factor to conflict with my preconceptions of a player's ability. I do want to start importing all those saved files from TCY as the game progresses.

Those are mostly just preferences. I think everyone has a different opinion, here's mine.

My suggestion would be to start with the original player file (to avoid unbalanced talent).

I'd use Full x-factor. An increased variation in player development would probably make future careers with the original player file less predictable.

I prefer the preference draft. The complete draft takes way too long, but if you are a control freak you might want to go this route so you get to pick your team.

Depending on whether you want to control your team from the very beginning or not, you may also want to consider quick-simming (putting everything in your scout's control and just running through the seasons as fast as possible with no regard for results) the first 15 or so seasons. That will get almost all of the "real" players out of the game. Of course, there is the off chance that you might get fired if you do it that way, but you probably will not.
