My wife watches that show. Faithfully. However, she has to tape it during the day, so I'm forced to listen to/watch it nightly.
The only plus about having to sit through it is that it provides me with an outlet for pretending that I'm hosting my own version of Mystery Science Theater 3000. Until my wife starts throwing things at me.

Hmmmm. Shorty hoping no one knows what show they are referencing... Ksyrup saying that his wife watches it and he hates it... The clues are adding up.
You guys are watching soap operas!!! Well, either that or midget porn.
I am ashamed of both of you.

I'm guessing of the Soap Opera variety. I seem to remember Shorty mentioning at one point or another that he follows one.

Don't be ashamed of me, I'm not a willing participant. Although, as I mentioned, I do enjoy ridiculing the plots, bad acting, etc.
One of my particular favorites of any soap opera is the "soliliquy" (if you can call it that), where a person will be by themselves and make some ridiculous statement out loud, usually within seconds of someone having left the room, in which they admit to doing something, killing someone, or expressing their "true desires" about something/someone. That always kills me.
[Exit other character, and 2 seconds later] "It's a good thing she didn't she that gun sticking out of the seat cushion, or else she would have found out that I killed her husband!"
Oh, and as for that particular soap opera - Days of Our Lives - I nominate the guy who plays John Black for the prestigious William Shatner Overacting Lifetime Achievement Award. That guy is A - W - F - U - L.

Ksyrup, I've found from when my wife used to watch General Hospital that the characters do this all of the time. They also have a knack for throwing in comments about past happenings or relationships between characters. Basically restating the obvious over and over, in an attempt to get the viewer caught up quickly so they can follow (and get involved in) the plot.

Yes, that's another one!
"Why did you throw away my sandwich? I wasn't done yet."
"Well, if you hadn't slept with my sister and fathered her child, resulting in my nervous breakdown during which I cut the power to the ballroom in which the Christmas party was being held, causing Dottie to trip down the stairs and end up in the hospital in a coma, where she fell in love with Simon, who I recently discovered was my brother by way of my mom and one of the 1,572 people she's slept with in the past 2 years...
then I wouldn't have throw away your sandwich."
Subtle, but it works.

Why can't a straight guy watch Days of Our Lives? What's next, you gonna tell me that liking Aqua is a bad thing?

My wife had a small role (okay role isn't really the right term - she was a nurse who had 1 line) on All My Children. She did about 10 episodes, though, so I got into that one pretty seriously for a while.
She's got some great stories about some of the cast members.

Cuervo, you don't know of the legacy that Aqua left behind? Danish Dance Group around 1996-1999?!?

It's got nothing to do with being straight or gay. Soap operas are just plain insipid. And for the record, I include wrestling in my definition of "soap opera." That's just soap operas injected with testosterone for guys who wouldn't otherwise admit to liking the soap operas on during the day that are obviously geared toward women. I can't stand either kind.
Oh, and I have no clue what Aqua is. I hear that Fritz is an Aqua Velva man, though.

Dancing? Danes? The late '90s? I know not of which you speak. But then, I've been in a cultural bubble since 1995.

Then again, Danish dance groups aren't exactly popping out of my CD collection.

I suppose this would be them:
"Storming onto the international music scene in the fall of 1997, the Danish dance-pop outfit Aqua aroused controversy when Mattel filed a lawsuit against them for the sexual overtones inherent in their breakthrough hit "Barbie Girl." The roots of the quartet trace back to 1989, when Claus and Søren (both keyboards/drum machine) were working together on the soundtrack for a Danish film, Fraekke Frida. During this time they met future member Rene (rap/vocals), who introduced them to Norwegian singer Lene. The four soon formed the band Joyspeed, whose single "Itzy Bitzy" spent one week on the Swedish charts before vanishing. Disappointed with the song's lack of success, the group decided to reinvent themselves as Aqua (allegedly, this name was derived from a poster featuring an aquarium hanging in their rehearsal room). Soon after, they secured another record contract with the Danish label Universal Music, who released their first single, "Roses Are Red," in September 1996. The song stayed on the charts for two months, receiving a platinum record in the process. The follow-up, "My Oh My" (February 1997), went gold in only six days, becoming the fastest-selling Danish single of all time and paving the way for their breakthrough international hit "Barbie Girl." The band's first full-length album, Aquarium, was released in September 1997. Aquarius followed in early 2000."
I've never heard of it before, but they're classified in a genre called Hi-NRG, "a fast variation of disco that evolved in the '80s."
