I FINALLY had some time to sit down and draw up the rules for the competetion. It's training time of the year for me and I can check FOFC at most once a day for the next two weeks or so.
Anyway, here is the competition. It is a bit different than previous incarnations.
Firstly, we will be using ZAngband, but the most recent version will be used. This is version 2.7.3 and can be found here (http://www.thangorodrim.net/) by clicking on the ZAngband link on the left.
Secondly, you may play any character, any race, any class, and so forth. Furthermore, you may use any user preferences.
Thirdly, the winner of this round will be chosen, not by depth, monsters, artifacts, gold, experience, and such, but by writing. The Dynasty section will have a post entitled "Rogue Competition #3 Dynasty Thread." (Creative, eh?) You are asked to post your stories here. At the conclusion of the competition, I will select several stories and then we will vote on the best via a poll. The winner will host the next competetion.
The basic idea here is to not punish those new to the Roguelike genre. This is all aboput style. All about your story. Recognize, however, that the deeper you delve the more interesting your story might be. Dying to Shelob after being severely wounded by her brood is much more riveting than dying to Grip, Farmer Maggot's dog.
As such, everybody is encouraged to participate - new and old alike. Even if you have never played a Roguelike game, this is your challenge.
This competition will end on August 30
Good luck.
