View Full Version : I'm sick of NCAA Football 2004

After playing several games of it, I'm sick and tired of NCAA 2004 and all the flaws it contains.
I'm sick of watching the secondary swat at balls 3 feet away from them.
I'm sick of watching offensive lineman shadow a guy blitzing outside until he ends up watching him sack my QB.
I'm sick of my guys kicking a damn fumble instead of picking it up (this happened to me three times in 2 games).
I'm sick of how a secondary reads receivers and their moves.
I'm sick of how in man-to-man coverage a cornerback will "shadow" the receiver, allowing him to make an inside cut which puts him ten feet away and a clear path to the end zone.
I'm sick of it all.
The flaws are so apparent, how does nobody else notice? Or maybe people notice them, but the rest of the game is "too good" so they don't care?
So yeah, unless they fix all the bugs/flaws in their game, today is the last day I ever play an EA football game.

Eh...all those things happen in college football on a regular basis.
Edit - Maybe you need to find some slider settings that jack up defensive awareness (is that in there?) while lowering some others to keep it realistic. I see the things you mention happen occasionally, but it's not a chronic problem.

Granted there are still flaws here and there, but overall I think the game play is very solid. The only thing that still bothers me is that the fullback still misses way too many blocks. I hate running off tackle out of the I formation and watching the full back run right past the SLB so he can paste me in the back field.
I admit I haven't messed with the sliders yet. I am hesitant to bump up the run blocking because I think the offensive line run blocking is pretty good. And I have a feeling that the run blocking slider just affects how long they are able to hold their blocks not who they will block. So it doesn't matter if my FB can stand his man up if he won't block him.

It is the best college football game on the market. It is the only college football game on the market. :)
Actually, given the flaws, it is still 100% better than any football game of this nature ever produced.

Fellow Daytonian, repent!
The OL thing happens, I think, to create a pocket. If you drop back 15 yards on a pass, then you're probably going to get sacked. In real life, if a DE just went way outside on an OL, he would have no problem outrunning him back that far and making a play, if the QB decided to take a lengthy drop. I've had to cut my dropbacks, or at least be aware of the ends that are making a good run to either side and roll to the opposite side to make a play.
Maybe 3 times in 2 games is excessive on the fumble kicking, but often if a def. player tries to run with the fumble before picking it up, he ends up booting the ball around a bit before having to just fall straight on it.
I think the secondary play is the best in this game it's ever been. Still not perfect. The CPU can complete long passes too easily, but I think that QB accuracy has been modeled really well now, and that the secondary is easier to beat with the right play calls, which is how it should be. No more 3 hail mary's in a row to win games.
I guess if that's your decision, then oh well, but I really think this is an excellent game.
