Georgia Tech Undergraduates Considering Departure
HB Ajenavi Eziemefe (Jr-RS): 402-1995-18 Rushing, 20-219-1 Receiving, OVR 85
This is a surprise to me - apparently Ace is pretty happy with all he's done here, and is ready to go. With Daniels out the door as well, this would leave me with just the upcoming Sophmore Mike Hanson to run the ball, in addition to recruits. I'm going to take the chance and let Ace walk - I'd rather have a faster back in there anyhow, and this will give me the opportunity to offer some solid playing time.
Declares for Draft
WR Benjamin Holmes (Jr): 146-3247-31 Receiving, OVR 83
- 2005 Heisman Trophy
- 2005 Best WR
- 2005 First Team All-American
On the other hand, Benji is not a surprise. He already owns nearly all the Georgia Tech records at the WR, only missing a few single-game ones. I'm still going to try and talk him into returning; he's our greatest weapon on offense, and there's very little talent in the receiving corps behind him.
1: "This has gotta be the toughest decision I've had to make. I'm still uncertain."
2: "I think I need another year to develop my skills for the next level."
Remains in school
Declares for Draft
K David Jordan (Jr-RS): 60-68 FG, 60 Long; 150-151 XP
- 2003 Freshman All-American
- 2003 Second Team All-American
Now this is a shocker. Jordan never even crossed my mind as a possibility to leave.
1: "I've made up my mind, Coach. I'm gonna declare myself eligible for the draft today."

A poor week. We finally get one of those RBs to commit, but lose a few guys at key positions. I'm not terribly concerned about the SS - Aristegui did a very good job playing out of position there last year - but we need the tackles, and another RB.
Needs:
RB, 2 T, MLB, SS

More depth on defense. Our only real problem with this recruiting class was the lack of offensive tackles, but with the number of guards we signed; we'll find some way to get our best five on the field.
It's amazing how much easier recruiting is after a good season. :-D

The biggest reason we're the top class is the sheer number of players we signed - I don't think anyone else was up at 22 players. The surprise was no other ACC teams in the top 20.

Preseason: Cuts
I have 65 players on the roster, with a maximum limit of 55.
QB: 3
HB: 4
FB: 2
WR: 6
TE: 3
T: 5
G: 6
C: 3
DE: 5
DT: 6
OLB: 4
MLB: 3
CB: 7
FS: 3
SS: 2
K: 2
P: 1
WR LeKeldrick Bridges (Sr-RS) (OVR 71): Bridges stepped up for us last season, catching sixteen balls for nearly 300 yards; but he's fallen to the fifth WR, and with the newfound speed at HB we don't need him.
T Rod Kirk (So) (OVR 64): A filler - Kirk has the physicality for it (6'5", 331), but is the worst of a not-great group of tackles to begin with. Sorry, Rod, good luck with the scout team.
G Merrill Ashley (So-RS) (OVR 73): One of the tougher calls to make - Merrill did a pretty good job backing up the guard spots this past season, and was in line for a possible starting job in the offseason. He's fallen hard in the depth chart with the recruiting class coming in, though.
G Sam Randall (Fr-RS) (OVR 61): Randall has the highest awareness of my offensive guards. He's a smart kid, he'll do well enough in school.
C Devin Duffy (So-RS) (OVR 67): Duffy was redshirted by default in that he never saw the playing field in 2005. He's also behind new C recruit Bobby Miller.
DT Travis McNeill (Fr) (OVR 70): One of our newest recruits, with the number of defensive tackles we have; either McNeill or Bearden had to be let go. We're sticking with Bearden based on the seeming potential; and better strength/size - McNeill has 65 STR and is 6'3", 273; Bearden is 6'3", 300 and has a STR of 73.
OLB C.J. Ashley (So) (OVR 67): Ashley has fallen to fifth on the OLB depth chart, and most likely will not get much playing time. What time he got this past season was as a backup DE, a place of extreme depth right now.
MLB Charles Roberts (So-RS) (OVR 61): Backup in the middle.
CB Freddie Holiday (So) (OVR 76): Another very hard call to make - Holiday was a 4* recruit last season and is developing nicely; but sixth on the depth chart won't cut it. He's also the second-slowest (to Aristegui) of the corners and not a good tackler to boot.
K Brandon Schneider (Fr) (OVR 75): Schneider was the #5 kicker in the country last season, but can't beat out Kevin Fernandez. Nearly equal - Schneider is barely more powerful, Fernandez a touch more accurate; the deciding factor was the injury factor - Schneider is much less likely to get injured.
