I'm curious to see how deep into FOF (any version) any of you have ever played. I just hit 2100 in my Arizona/Louisville/Orlando Cardinals dynasty in FOF2001. Has anyone here played beyond 2100?

if you're wondering why I still play, I think the game is the most fun version of FOF to just fool around with.

For about 50 years I was just dicking around, winning title after title, but then changed my approach. I play all-out, but started limiting my salary cap space. I started by forcing myself to leave 10% of the salary cap free, and decided i would up it 1% for every super bowl won. I want to figure out at what point making the playoffs will become a serious challenge (will it ever?). I won the Super Bowl in 2098 with 28% of my salary cap unused, and just lost the 2099 super bowl with 29% of my cap free. That cap space is running in the 145+ million range in 2100.

It's certainly made for a more realistic model of player movement for me, I need to bring in 15+ players annually, and rarely do any draft picks stay beyond their original contract. I'm lucky if 1 player of any draft class become a fixture on the team.

I played between 125 and 150 years of FOF2, I did hit 100 years in FOF2001, and I have only played about 30-40 seasons of FOF4. (Those numbers are in my longest career, not total playing time).

I'm in year 2011, but I take awhile in the offseason. I just took over the Dallas Cowboys after 9 playoffs in a row with St. Louis and ZERO Super Bowl appearances. Dallas is the worst team in the league and has never been to a playoff game.

Should be fun!

Clarify how that makes it realistic?

I always tinkered with house rules, but was never really able to come up with good ones for FOF. FBB, on the other hand. Well, I think I had a perfect system for that.

Not trying to pick on you - more on the game. But doesn't not keeping _any_ drafted players seem silly?

Just starting FoF, and only 3 seasons in. Taking my time calling plays in the second half of most games. Pretty soon I am hoping to be able to fine tune my game plans so I won't even have to do that.

My longest dynasty in any sports sim is 49 years in Puresim Baseball.

I have played about 55 years of one career and 26 seasons of my main career (Real49ersFootball) but it takes me very long to play one full season (about a week) and I like to "reflect" on things that went well and thing that were not so the off-season is long as well for me ;-)

I didn't say I don't keep "any" drafted players. Much like real life, very few of my draftees play beyond their original contract for me. Look at any team in the NFL, then look at their draft picks from years prior. You're lucky if 1 long-term player comes out of any given draft.

My reduced salary cap forces me to keep only a select few players around until the end of their careers. I've gotten to the point where I have to leave 40% of my salary cap empty. Maybe 7 players on my roster have been with the team for more than 4 years in any given season.

BTW, the money thing apparently doesn't matter. Spotting the rest of the league 40% of the salary cap, I am still the most dominant team (by far).

I think the weak link of the game is our human talent evaluation abilites vs. those of the computers. Any given computer team is loaded with horribly overpayed shitty players, presumably re-signed just to maintain continuity. The computer will almost always overpay, while I rarely will.

Dola.

Also, i'm now into the year 2125 with this dynasty. It's interesting when you get to the point where you can break 100 year old league records, it feels like genuine accomplishment. For instance, I just had a receiver have a 125 catch, 2190 yard, 19 touchdown season. Pretty ridiculous numbers, but the yardage record it broke had been in place since 2018.

I have a number of FOF2 dynasties that have been ongoing for over 50 seasons (remember that it takes me about a week to play a season/offseason) and more...

On good 'ole FOF 2001 i have a couple where i got up to 50 years, and i know i went for around 75 once. What usually happens to me is i get into a "groove" or something like that, in which i just get the urge to play a game. I will play only that game usually for say a month, then i move onto another game, say TCY, or OOTP, or maybe get a new game. When i come back around to FOF i usually want to start over a new career. I love OOTP 5 but have only gotten about 20 yrs into a game because of my laptop probs messing stuff up and i have to start over. I just started a new TCY career this week and am a couple yrs into that, TCY i think i have gotten about 40 yrs into before.

With all this said, when the hell is Madden gonna let you go past 30 yrs? I bought Madden this year for the first time in many years. And i haven't gotten that far yet because i am splitting playing time with NCAA 2004, but i know when i get to year 30 i'm gonna be pissed because i won't be able to see the end of my "new stars' " careers.
