Wow that must suck.. knowing you're going to die, and you're stuck in handcuffs :(

Very unusual story. I hope they get to the bottom of it... Sounds like the cops really screwed the pooch, though.

No doubt. This one is a big mystery. Add on to this, his friend died of a drug overdose this weekend. The police have said that they do not believe there is a connection, but....

dola....if this was not an elaborate scheme involving the man who died, expect this to happen again.

This troubles me...aside from the fact that I deliver pizza as well, this is just horrible. I just don't understand...if they had the guy in custody, why not try to get the bomb off of him even if he was a suspected criminal? The story mentions that they were waiting for the bomb squad to get there...but it seems to me that the Bomb Squad should be quicker than that.

Not exactly the way I want to go. Although surrounded by cops and screaming will probably be my way, I certainly hope I have no bomb strapped around my neck.

This is an incredible story. I don't see how you can blame the police, though. Your first instinct is that the guy is either lying or, if he really does have a bomb, that he has control of the bomb. It had to take some time to first determine that there was a bomb, and then take him seriously when he said it was going to go off and he couldn't do anything about it. And even then, maybe you think that he was really a robber, but accidentally started the bomb and couldn't stop it. I think the "innocent victim is hooked up to bomb and told to rob a bank" story is quite far down on the cop's checklist.

How can you blame the cops? It is an incredibly far-fetched story by the man that the bomb was attached to, and most cops do not have any bomb-handling training. In addition, the article indicates that the bomb was attached to his neck by a collar, so it would have been difficult to work on, even w/ the proper tools on hand.

The cops knew he had a bomb and that it was probably real. Still, what do you expect them to do? Their cops, not the bomb squad. They can't just run up and snip the red wire (or was it blue)?

If some cop tried to be a hero and difuse the bomb himself and it went off, we'd never hear the end of it.

I haven't even seen the movie and don't really know what the plot is, but the first thing that came to my mind when I heard this was Phone Booth. Isn't that the movie where the guy answers a phone and can't leave the phone booth because someone has a gun trained on him and innocent bystanders? Not sure if it had anything to do with forcing the guy to commit a crime or not, but that's the first thing that popped into my mind. Maybe a criminal with an idea sparked by the movie?

No, it was a crime sparked by Eminem lyrics... or, no wait, by something he saw on an episode of Animaniacs last week...

I thought I read somewhere that the bomb went off while the cops were waiting for the bomb squad to arrive. So you can't really blame this on the cops...

Convenient how the cops kept a safe distance from the guy as the bomb went off.

I suppose you would have stood over him waiting for the bomb squad to show up.

I have no idea how to disarm a bomb so the only thing me being closer to the guy would do is create more deaths. What do you expect the cop to do?

In Franklin's defense, the guy was in police custody for quite a while... seems like their bomb squad is awfully slow. Hard to fault anybody here, though, for a crime this bizarre.
