Daytona, FL - 42 teams have gathered in Daytona, Florida to once again start an exciting season of Winston Cup Racing. Your big name veterans like Chris Snow, Nick Phillips, Telle Snow, Rewbie Newsday, and Kodos N. Kang are all here. The series young guns, Mustafa Henderson, Rob Zalez, John Condor, Rewbie Bluesday and Ren Snow are also here. And another exciting rookie class will give the fans something to get excited about.

Snow Motorsports has been dominate during the 8 year run of the FOFC Winston Cup Series winning 6 of the 8 titles, 5 of them belonging to Season 8 champion Chris Snow. After a 2 year "slump", Chris Snow once again found himself winning the Winston Cup Championship. Consistency was the key to winning the title with 12 Top 5's and 15 Top 10's. Season 7 Champ Telle Snow finished Season 8 in 3rd place with 5 poles and 3 wins. You can expect more of the same this year. Season 8 was a bit of a disapointment for Ren Snow. Instead of challenging for the title he had to battle his way back from deep in the points to finish 13th. He did pick up 2 wins though. Season 8 was horrible for Kai Collins. After finishing 4th in Season 7 he finished 22nd last season. 9 DNF's is what hurt his points position.

Phillips Racing is headed by Season 6 champion Nick Phillips. Phillips lost out on the Season 8 title by only 1 point in the season finale. You can be sure that he won't forget about that. After a terrific rookie season in which he finished 2nd in points, Mustafa Henderson fell off a bit last season finishing in 7th. He picked up 4 poles but managed to reach victory lane only once. His car is always strong and should reach victory lane a few times this season. Kevin Anderson is Phillips Racing's third driver. He has been quiet his first couple seasons in the series but he should make a much bigger impact this year. After 8 seasons in the FOFC Winston Cup Series, Billy Rudd decided to call it quits. Now, in steps his replacement, 20 year old Billy Bushinhimer. Bushinhimer is very young and inexperienced with 2 races on the ARCA series being his toughest racing experience. But Phillips Racing has confidence that this young man has what it takes to be a major star in the series.

Other major multi car teams include Rewbie Newsday and Rewbie Bluesday 2 car operation. Newsday has consistently been one of the series top drivers the past few seasons, finishing 10th last year even with 7 DNF's. Rewbie Bluesday was the Season 8 Rookie of the Year finishing in 12th in the points. Look for one or both of these teams to find victory lane this year. Mack Racing includes Jeeber D Mack and Jobu Mack. Jeeber D finished 11th in the points last year but found victory lane 3 times. Expect more wins from him this season. Jobu really has nowhere to go but up after finishing 34th in the points with only 1 top 5 and 2 top 10's. Mask Racing has expanded to three cars this season. Bobby Mask is back for his 9th season after finishing 14th in the points last year. His younger brother Andre finished 15th in a succesful rookie campaign. The third driver this season is Bobby and Andre's cousin Johnny. Johnny will be driving the #25 KFC car this season. Money Motorsports is back again this year with two drivers, Johnny Benson and Taco Money. Because he only raced in 10 races last season out of 25, Benson will still be considered a rookie this season and will be eligible for the Rookie of the Year trophy. Taco is back for his 3rd season with Money Motorsports and is in his 3rd car. Last year was horrible for him, this season he should be much improved. It's Craptacular and He's Crapnificent are once again back for a season of FOFC Racing. Last season they finished 25th and 37th in points respectively. Both will be looking to improve greatly this season. Next we have the 2 car operation of Sonny Daze and Al Kaholic. Daze finished 21st in the points last year, Kaholic was 23rd. Kaholic will look to bring down his 7 DNF total from last year.

There still are a few single car operations out there. Kodos N. Kang will once again be driving the #13 Dolphins car this year and looks to add a championship to his trophy case after a solid 4th place finish in the standings last year. Rob Zalez has had two very succesful seasons on the FOFC Winston Cup circuit and still isn't as well known as others. Last season he picked up 4 poles, 1 win and finished 8th in the standings. Expect more of the same from him this season. After years of racing near the back of the field, Mike Tokunaga finally decided to try out racing at the front. He picked up 2 wins, 5 Top 5's, 8 Top 10's and finished 5th in the standings. Not bad for a 100:1 shot to win the title before last season. Shane Koremlink quietly continues to run well each and every year. Last year he picked up one win, but it was in the season ending race at Homestead where no one really cares who the winner is. Still, he finished 9th in the points with 10 Top Ten finishes. In Season 7 Sterling Silvers started out completely dominating the circuit. But starting midway through Season 7 through Season 8, he hasn't been the same. Last season he picked up one win, but failed to qualify for one race and finished 19th in the points. After many changes in the offseason expect Silvers to be near the top once again. Did anyone even notice John Condor finish 6th in the points last year? With everyone watching the Snow's, Phillips, and others John Condor quietly became one of the series best drivers. He picked up 1 win, but only had 3 Top Five's and 6 Top Ten's, but many times he would finish just outside of the top ten. Season 8 was a disapointment for Travis Elkin. A 16th place finish in the points was not what he wanted. He did manage to pick up 1 win, 6 Top Five's and 8 Top Ten's though. 7 DNF's ruined his season. Kool Breeze only picked up 2 Top Five's and 4 Top Ten's but still managed to finish 17th in points. After some changes to the car this season he hopes to add to those numbers. After a few years finishing in the 30's in the points, Daniel Ertmann picked it up a bit last year and came in 18th. He'll need to improve on the 1 Top Five finish though. Parris Duffus' rookie campaign had it's ups and downs. But one of it's high points came in the season ending race where he collected his first Top Five Finish. He hopes to improve on his 24th place points finish this year. DNF's hurt any chance of a good points finish for Jay Klayman last season. If he wants to improve he's gonna have to cut down on the DNF's. Season 8 was horrible for Aaron Hogg as he was buried in 36th place in the points. 0 Top Five finishes was not what he expected. Badstreet Fields hopes to be able to find victory lane this season after 0 wins and a 30th place finish last season. Daytona could be his best shot. Thomas Hudson found himself near the back of the field quite often last year. After making numerous changes his car should be much better. Eilim Cu'Firinne had a good season with his 3 Top Five finishes, other than those 3 finishes though the season was horrible as he finished 28th. It was a bad year for Rob Nielsen in his rookie campaign as he finished 38th. But he did manage to pick up 1 win. Sloppy Joe had a horrible rookie season finishing 39th in the points and leading no laps. He should be improved this year. Season 8 is one Antoine Mariucci will want to forget. Finishing 40th in the points was not what he envisioned of his rookie year. After a long absence from the series, Stan Gunner will be making a return to the #11 car.

This year's rookie class looks solid. With Billy Bushinhimer, Johnny Benson, Johnny Mask, Travis Hoenig and Paul Tracy. Benson is the only one with Winston Cup experience, the others are all learning on the spot.

Today's running of the Daytona 500 was a very clean race, only 1 caution flew for a minor incident. 26 different drivers led during the race today but it was Kai Collins who led the final lap. Rob Zalez came in 2nd with Ren Snow 3rd. Parris Duffus finished 4th with Nick Phillips in 5th. Paul Tracy was the top finishing rookie in 7th. Only 4 drivers, Rewbie Newsday, Andre Mask, Sterling Silvers and Stan Gunner finished a lap down.

Forgive my ignorance, but who the hell is Alan Keyes?

Don't feel bad, RendeR. Keyes is well known in Iowa, New Hampshire, and the other early primary states, but after that...

He's an African-American radio host from Maryland (has other qualifications, but this isn't a campaign speech) who has run in the Republican primary the last 2 or 3 elections. He's a brilliant, firey conservative (but without the brash arrogance of a say, Rush Limbaugh), who is an incredible orator and untouchable debater. He is, however, a strict (almost anti-Federalist) Constitutionalist and too far right for many.

He has not used public funds in his campaigns, so while his personality and ideas often give him a great start in the early primaries, lack of money (and, IMO, a bias against black conservatives) usually causes him to fade from the political picture before the TV campaigns get into full swing.

Was that a fair summary?

Andre Mask took the pole and led 59 laps. The season's biggest upset like had been predicted could have been happening. And it did, but Mask didn't take the checkered. Using pit strategy, Sloppy Joe took over the lead with 18 laps remaining and never looked back taking home the victory. Kevin Anderson was 2nd, Travis Hoenig was 3rd followed by Andre Mask and Taco Money.

I finished 24. After last year, I was tired of the up and down craziness. Now I yearn for it over the current boredom. Time to set my car back up as one of the fastest and most inconsistent.

I'm definintely changing my stats back to something that's more "all or nothing" like before. You said I always had one of the fastest cars but it was also more unreliable- but, man, it was fun.
