View Full Version : So, Fanasty Footballers, who got lucky and picked Boldin?

For those not in the know, Anquan Boldin is a rookie on Arizona. Charlie Rogers had a fantastic day for the Lions, but the best rookie WR on the field today was Anquan Boldin who must be Jeff Blake's new best friend: 10 catches, 217 yards, and 2 touchdowns.

So did anyone get lucky in a deep league and take him?

Nope, but I picked him up halfway through the game today. Lets hope he has a few more games like that in him.

I hate systems that still allow that kind of thing.

I didnt get credit for his performance today. I just added him to my roster. I will start him next week, but his game today will count for me.

Let people pick him up. There's no way that he'll be able to do anything even close to this again (at least anytime soon). Remember Jeff Blake in Baltimore, he couldn't get anything done (fantasy wise). And remember, its Detroit.

I picked him up today in one of my leagues. Even if he doesn't get anywhere near what he did today he will still fit on my team. My receivers are very, very bad.

Yeah, I should revise my statement to say "Don't cut any quality players for him".

I dunno... Jeff Blake may not be a complete team leader and QB, but in terms of fantasy football, he has one thing going for him-- he throws to his wide receivers. Blake has made receivers on his various teams look pretty good in fantasy terms-- Carl Pickens, of course... but Joe Horn, and even Travis Taylor. If Boldon slips into the "Blake's favorite target" slot this season (and who exactly is there to prevent that?) then who knows - he might end up putting up some pretty respectable numbers.

I agree - don't run out and cut your 9th round draft pick to get him... but if you have some riff raff to release, Boldon might not be the worst guy to target.

Good luck with your roster moves!

And yet with Blake's 360 or so yards passing, and just one INT my beloved Cards end up losing 42-24. *sigh*

The one WR I kept hearing about in Cards news and gossip was Boldin interestingly enough, not their 1st round pick Johnson. Guess there was some truth to it at least for one game.

And nice to see Jake Plummer put up Cardinal like numbers, 3 INT, 12/25 for 113 yards. Yeah that's why the Broncos signed him alright.

I'm more inclined to pick up Andre Johnson if he's available. He put up 6 catches for 76 yards against Miami's corners. Much more impressive to me.

My laugh out loud moment of the day was when they were showing the Detroit locker room after the game and Mooch was talking them up like they just won the Super Bowl. Too funny.

I know the kid isnt going to grab 10 for 200+ every week, but the Cards will be behind every game they play. They will have to pass and he proved today he can make plays.

True... their reciever depth is pitiful after losing Boston and letting Jenkins go. Boldin has a good chance of pulling in a lot of passes and yardage just because he'll be on the field and Blake will now be looking for him, especially when the team is down by 20 and they try to win it in the air.

When you've only won 5 games in two years, and come out of the game today with a winning record..... we as fans and them as a team have a reason to be extremely happy. Next week will prolly be a different story, so we're enjoying it, while it lasts. Hell, I got the game ball today :D

Exactly. It might look stupid to people who aren't Lion fans, but we deserve to feel good about this. We've been through hell over the past, oh.....45 years or so.

I was jumping up and down, pumping my fist, and when Mooch gave his speech, I cheered at the top of my lungs.

I don't give a shit what people like Ryche think about us, because they have no clue what it is to be a Lions fan.

Having Marshall Faulk and Jeremy Shockey was not good this weekend...
My whole team combined for 1 TD, thrown by Ramsey.
My bench was even worse, Kitna, Pennington, Bettis, LaMar Gordon, Josh Reed, Anthony Becht, Jimmy Smith and Tony Hollings combined for 16 fantasy points... This way, dumping Eddie Kennison looks very bad.

Funny thing is, all comes down to Bucs vs. Eagles tonight for me vs. Darkiller's team, me leading 46-45 and only having the defenses left to play:
"my" Bucs vs. Darkiller's Eagles

And the rest of the league, all teams are in the region of 75 or more points, except one other team having McNabb left to play...

I cut Finneran from ATL for Boldin. I'm still hoping Jimmy Smith comes back strong, though.

I think Boldin's a good pickup if you don't have to cut anyone with any talent for him. He's probably going to be the number one receiver for the Cardinals this year and getting any team's number one receiver has some vaule in most leagues.

Wow.

I hope it pays off for you. I'm old and set in my ways to pick up a rookie receiver on the worst team in the league after Week 1.

From ESPN's fantasy wrapup:

"As off the radar as Boldin was, his production wasn't a complete waste. A total of four owners -- representing .002% of all owners -- actually submitted Boldin as a starter this week in FFL leagues."

I'm sure it was more than that on yahoo, but that's impressive :)

I didn't mean any disrespect to the Lions or their fans, I think they will have one hell of a team before long. The thought of what Harrington and Rogers might do in the next 10 years scares me as a Vikings fan. But to go that nuts after beating perhaps the worse team in the NFL at home seemed excessive.

I actually had the highest point total in a league where I started Corey Dillon over Charlie Garner, Sam Brandon over Ahmed Plummer (dumb, dumb move), and Dallas Clark over Alge Crumpler.

This may end up being a VERY good year. :)

It's called coaching. It's what coaches do when they don't have a Super Bowl contender and are trying to help the team regain its footing after surviving nuclear winter while being led around by a Rich Kotite imposter. What would you have him do to get his team pumped up for the next 15 games, dance down 8 Mile in his jockstrap?

We'll see. I highly expect it not to. I'm just in 1 simple Yahoo league. But, since Finneran just broke his hand, I can't have 2 players on my bench not playing.

Fantasy aside, I'm stunned the Cardinals may actually have pulled off a legit sleeper pick.
