View Full Version : Political Cartoon

Ok guys, for Government I have to come up with a political cartoon. I have to have a theme and it has to do with current news - whether it be international, national, local, state, or regional. It just has to be recent, for instance I can't do anything about Clinton, that is old news.
I was thinking of making the cartoon something to do with Bush asking for 87 billion, but how would I show him being greedy and asking for more than needed, or whatever? I really am clueless, and to make it worse, I suck at drawing. :p
Any suggestions are welcome.

You could have Rumsfeld or someone holding his hand and taking him into a toy store where there is a army men toy set on sale for $87 billion.

You could show Bush taking a bag of money (with the label "$87 billion" on it) out of a box that is labeled something like Social Security, Medicare, Education. etc.

You could show people starving in Iraq and Afghanistan while fat Americans bitch about less than 1% of their total federal budget being sent over to help.

You could also put a tower up that says 87 billion with a plane about to fly into it. Not a bad price to pay to keep the tower up.
I figured I had to help shape the minds of the youth a little to the right because if he goes to far left he will turn into a dope smoking hippie and go to jail. I saw his picture, he wouldn't do well in jail.

You could show a kid looking at three world maps with his dad. The first has all of the places in the world where people are facing mass starvation, the second where valuable resources (such as gold and oil) are located, and the third where United States troops are stationed. Then he could ask his dad why they accidently printed the same map on parts 2 and 3.

Yeah, because we've taken soooo much oil from Iraq, Kuwait, and Afghanistan already... I mean, look at how cheap the gas is these days.

Probably because if we sent troops there people would riot. I know Liberia is the worlds largest exporter of Doritos if I am not mistaken, but the thought of sending troops there caused a lot of people to call Bush a warmonger. Odd.

That is a good point. I just bought a truck a few weeks ago. Let me tell you, a 5.9 V8 is not very good on gas. I suppose I could be like teachers and bitch that gas is too expensive because I am sure before I bought this truck it got 80 mpg.

Just so I can see it again. Wow. Seeing what you quoted from me, let me explain what I meant, seeing as you probably didn't get it. Teachers make 30k-50k on average. It has been that way for a while, yet when they become a teacher, they bitch they are underpayed.

I must be an idiot. You lost right about the middle of that last post. Most of you don't feel your underpaid. All of you feel you aren't overpaid. So you all agree that it is about right? No?
Then you concede teachers aren't underpaid. Got it. So what was the spat about then? Let me set down the pipe and eat a twinkie. That always helps me clear my mind.

So my back-up career choice of teaching is not a good one? How about archaeology? If not, I really hope I have a huge growth spurt and get drafted in the NFL or NBA.
Seriously, lately after reading a lot of Clive Cussler books over the summer, I've been thinking about archaeology. It sounds like it could be boring at times, but trying to figure out some of the things sounds like it would be fun. I was also serious about being a teacher. That or something in Business.

Screw the tower idea, too much logic, and I hate logic. Show a twinkie factory and put a 87 Billion dollar price tag on a lock that is protecting the gate. Then have a fat guy with terrorist on his T-shirt approaching the building. Only 87 Billion to save the worlds Twinkie factory. Not a bad price to pay. Plus, twinkies can feed the poor. Children love twinkies. Twinkies promote interracial intermingling, because they go in yellow and white and come out brown. God bless the twinkie. It is the little guy with the big heart.

BTW, I never meant to imply you were overpaid. I would say it is about right. I agree that a system that pays everyone equal based on experience is flawed, but considering alot that is taught, I hardly find it suprising.

Look, we are all underpaid and if you don't think you are, then you don't work hard enough. Shame on you. Anyone worth their measure will never do just enough work to feel like they are "Paid just right." I work far harder than my paycheck shows, and this is because I want a raise.
For these reasons, I respect people that think they are underpaid. The only difference is that we in the non-union private sector can do something about this beyond bitching. I can ask for more money. They can either say yes or no. If I don't like their answer, I can move on. Find another job where they will pay me what I want.
Teachers, can't ask for more money, so, in this sense, they are screwed. This is one of the problems with unions. There is no incentive for working harder than the next guy.
In my job, there is an incentive... if I do a poor job, I get fired, or, at best, no raise. Do a good job, and I get a raise.
There is no try. There is only do.

I don't think my analogy was off-base. Perhaps in your case it was, but the two teachers that are friends of mine say they are underpaid.
The reason good teachers find better jobs is because to teach kids you don't need the brightest people in the world. All you need is average or above-average. I am sure most of the good pizza deliver guys move on to something else.
I am not trying to insult you either. For all I know you could be very smart. What I am saying is that the world needs people to dig ditches, be rocket scientists and roadside flower salesman. People seem to slot themselves to what they should be. The best and brightest move to what interests them and challenges them. I understand you have your masters degree. If you complain about your job, find something else, someone will hire you. I don't love to sell cars, but it pays the bills and gives me the free time to do things in life I enjoy. Hopefully teaching does that for you.

I am sorry you aren't worshipped for doing your jobs. Your hired to teach kids, do it. The guy who picks up my trash probably gets a lot of crap, but if he didn't do it, garbage would be everywhere. Where is the sympathy for the guy who brings the pizza, cleans public restrooms, works at the dump?
Oh yeah, they don't have master degrees. Bow down before the smart man who was gracious enough to waste his endless knowledge on our children. May God build a statue of you at his gates.

I am sure some do, I don't. But it isn't because the degree we may have at school. Those who complain about pay where I work bring up the fact that if they sell 10 cars, the company makes around $40k and the make $3k. Now if teachers want to complain about their pay when schools have money just piling up, then great, but until then don't. The market controls what people get paid. That is why I said we don't need the best and brightest to be teachers. The market doesn't pay them(the best and the brightest) what they would be worth. Same as with any job. If you feel that because you have a masters degree you deserve better, don't teach. It is pretty simple.

Dola, forgot to add this. Currently the reason I don't bitch is because I have almost no bills to speak of. My rent is dirt cheap, my credit cards are paid off and since I purchase a vehicle thru work at cost, it hardly costs me anything. I can survive easily on $1200 a month, so I could be happy a McDonalds really. I currently make more there, not that it matters, but what makes me happy at my job is that I have low stress levels and when I leave my job to go home, I don't have anything at work to work about. I feel like Kevin Spacey in American Beauty. Without the young hottie chasing me down.

illinifan,
I too wanted to be an archaeologist when I was growing up. I still think it would be a blast to do something like that. I'd suggest getting in contact with one of the universities in the state and finding out how to volunteer to work on a dig. Most of the digs happen during the summer, and you might have to pay a little for the experience, but it would be a good way to figure out if it's something you'd like to pursue.

I think something with Schwarzenegger talking about how he wants to tighten immigration laws and make English the official language when he is an immigrant who barely speaks English is a surefire winner.
CamEdwards

yeah, because if you can't pronounce California... you don't deserve to be governor of California.
Schwarzenegger is a legal immigrant. People keep wanting to omit that word like it's not important.
And barely speaking English is a hell of a lot better than speaking German.

Tucker-I too wish I would have. I have panerd calling me a dick in PMs. He has called me a dick and an idiot. I came to the conclusion panerd is either 1) My current girlfriend or 2) an ex-girlfriend.
What I find so odd about it is that as humans we can all have such varying views. I can't see how the people on the left actually believe what they say, much like I am sure the can't believe I believe what I say. I heard earlier on the radio today, that in ND, a lawyer is fighting a law that allows police to pose as minors on the internet and arrest the people who attempt to have sex with them. His claim is they did nothing illegal. He says they were speaking with adults, therefore nothing illegal occured even though they were under the assumption they were minors. He is against minors being molested, but is in full belief that for some one to be prosecuted, they must talk to minors, not adults. I was shocked that the supreme court would even hear this, let alone take it seriously. I then found out, it was already fought in New York as well and in other states. People actually believe that cops who pose as minors to catch people trying to lure minors on the internet for sex are going to far.
