i have read on some sites that skills for a good winger include wing, playmaking/stanima, passing, defense. however according to hattrick manager, it does not take playmaking into account when the winger is played offensively.
just wondering anyone elses thoughts. i would think wingers played offensively would still need a descent playmaking skill.

Playing a winger offensive does not effect his contribution to the midfield rating. That is in the rules (at least the way I interpret them). So I would say it is still important to have good playmaking as a secondary skill.

playmaking is important for a winger regardless how he's played.
it's the second most important stat for a winger. however, due to lack of quality players, most people use a true 'offensive' winger with only winger and passing.

thanks for the help, but i think i am still confused.
maybe this is a better way to phrase my question since it is what i really want to know. who should i play? and/or is one better suited for offensive or towards the middle? just ignore form for this case. notice on player has wretched playmaking and solid wing, while the other has inad playmaking and passible wing.
Player A
36 000 US$, 28 years, inadequate form
Has weak experience and weak leadership abilities
Stamina: inadequate Keeper: wretched
Playmaking: inadequate Passing: weak
Winger: passable Defending: weak
Scoring: weak Set Pieces: passable
or
Player B
41 000 US$, 30 years, solid form
Has inadequate experience and passable leadership abilities
Stamina: weak Keeper: disastrous
Playmaking: wretched Passing: weak
Winger: solid Defending: weak
Scoring: weak Set Pieces: solid

The both have weak, passing so it really just depends on what you want. If was wanted a boost on the attack ratings, I would use Player B. If I wanted a midfield boost, I would use Player A.

It all depends what you are looking for from that wing side. If you really need some help to your midfield, just forget about the attack rating on that side, match it to your opponent best defense rating, and put a real inner mid in there, without even looking at his winger rating.
If you are looking for a player that will help you some on attack, and a little on midfield, player "A" is the choice.
Finally, if you don't care if the player helps your midfield (maybe because the other side is your pure inner midfielder played as a winger toward ;) ) but you want a player that will give you some firepower on your wing attack (hopefully matched to your opponent weakest defense side), then player "B" is the man and he should be played offensively.
I hope you see what I'm trying to do with the three possibilities here...

yeap thanks for the help.
ill probably play Player A as "normal" so he contributes a little to both midfield and attack.

play him offensive.
the only time I'd even fathom playing a winger normal was if he had good defending skills and I didn't want to detract from his offensive abilities ie:
his playmaking will contribute the same regardless of how he's played unless you play him towards middle.
with only inad stamina, his playmaking won't give it's all so play him offensive to get a boost out of him :)
