View Full Version : A concern possibly premature

After reading the chat, one thing concerned me and Senator and I discussed it for a little bit. Assuming we go the next step with a website and move to it, without HTML reporting and no additional method to produce reports other than print-to-file, how will we present league info with having to using print-to-file which will be a bear.
I am not a website maker by any means so can someone who is more versed in such things clear this up?
If we have to use that method, then work will have to be delegated to updating the site I would think for basic league updates. One guy doing it would lose his hair quickly.

I think you can just export a league file of some sort?!
While it might be a pain in the ass for people who'd want to play from work (they wouldn't be able to), it shouldn't be too big of a hassle, in general.

RPI, I am not talking about the league file, which you could put on a page and everyone can download it and look at the league off their copy of FOF, I am more concerned with the stats, standings etc being transferred from the FOF datafile into a website. Make any sense?

Yea', it does. You're right - it would be a PITA to update. Though if Jim did the print-to-file to where you could specify a directory for the text files, it wouldn't be -too- bad to just link to text files from the website. Would just be a pain for the rosters, but to do a couple of league leaders files and the standings and schedule after each in-game week wouldn't be _too_ bad.

True it seems to get around the bare minimum of information there would be around 10-14 files to upload each sim, hyperlinked and formatted.
This isn't my thing that's why I was wondering.

HFP: You could have hyperlinks automatically set up, and just upload the files all from one folder potentially.
It wouldn't be that bad if Jim makes it possible to print files to a specific folder.
Even without that ability, it's still not too tough.

Well, read this:JimG: Q: Has HTML exporting made it into this version?
JimG: I'm strongly considering adding this capability for a future update. Something like this is very time-consuming to write, but my testers tell me it's something that adds a lot to the multi-player experience....and this: PrimeLord:Q: What kind of changes can we expect in future versions of FOF? What features do you still want to add that have not made it into the current version?
JimG: Well, from testing, I'd say the export to html feature is a must-have.My guess is that HTML exporting will be in one of the early patches.
