Do I have to Manage everyone's time? Or is the default pretty well set?

The default is all 20's, so no, the default is not good. :)

The good news is that everyone's time carries over to the next season. So for your first year, you have to change everyone's time, but for each season after, you only have to do freshmen and the ones you want to change. Sounds liek a lot of work, but it really isn't.

Or, you can just use the new time management screen Jim put in for the last update. It does an ok job for those looking to just skip the time management all together.

As Sabotai said above, it really isn't as much of a pain as it seems at first. You quickly get a feel for the amount of time each player should get and can usually get it done without much thought.

I haven't played with the new auto-time management thing that was put in the latest update, so I really can't comment on how well it works.

Glad to see you caved in and gave TCY a try.

Well, I'm trying the demo. :) The thing is I don't have much time, so I'll start a game, check my players, then have to Quit and do it over again. hehe.

Could anyone help me with the recryiting screen? What does red and blue text mean? What should I be paying attention do? Strategies? Thanks!

The players in black you can't recruit because you don't have their chosen major. The players in red are gonna most likely be out of your league, a little too good for your team, but are going to be the guys that take your team to the next level. Still possible to land them, but its tough. The players in blue are gonna be the ones you mostly want to focus on recruiting as they are the ones who are looking for schools at your prestige level. Players in green are below your level and I only focus on them to fill out a recuiting class.

Focusing on the guys who have Distance as the #1 thing on their criteria list is important. Unless you have an academic school or one with high prestige to start, its going to be the only advantage you have in recruiting to start.

It really depends on what team you're using. If its a school with a low talent base to start then you should just focus on landing blues and taking a few shots at landing some reds.

Little correction with what herd said, black players aren't just players who are majoring in something you don't offer. They are basically players who you have VERY little chance of recruiting. Red you have a little better chance of recruiting, but are still pretty much out of your league. Blue players are ones that will consider your school and green ones are players who are easy pickings.

One problem is that black and red players are a little easier to recruit than they should be. So one house rule I have is to only go after a black players once every 2 weeks and 1 red player per week.

But players who are majoring in something you don't offer are labeled black and you have 0 chance of recruiting them. So make sure you take notice as to what black players you offer their major in and which ones you don't.

Also, another thing I do, is to only go after players who I do not have to give a lot of study hall time to. So I generally only go after players with a good SAT and GPA. This way they can spend more time in the weight room and studying football and less time in study hall.

And recruit to your system. It makes no sense to go after tight ends and full backs if you run a Run and Shoot offense.

Gosh what's that, haven't noticed any difference and I'm playing with version 1.2.

It's a beautiful option in 1.2 if you find TM to be like work. :)

Yes, the latest patch for TCY included an additional time management screen so that you can set the time management stuff for groups of players (by position). It makes the time management aspect MUCH less tedious.

One improvement would be to allow the gamer to specify time management by position AND class. For example, your freshman DL is probably going to need a lot more strength training than your 5th year senior.

I'm guessing that this has not been added to the demo.

I'll attach a screen print so you can see it.

While the time management addition Jim included in 1.2 is a big improvement, I still prefer using Fido's indispensible TCY Helper (find it here (http://fidosutils.shorturl.com/)). With this utility, you can enter time setting preferences for each position group based on whether they have a girlfriend and their composite intelligence score, then see a display of recommended settings for each of your players based on the preferences you've established.

The way I do it (as sabotai has already mentioned) is to set all the time management numbers when I first take over at a school; thereafter, you'll only need to make adjustments to your freshmen, new walk-ons, and any player that acquires (or loses) a girlfriend in the off-season. This is a little more time-intensive than Jim's addition in the 1.2 patch, but it gives you greater control.

I'm at work so I don't have my document with my position-specific recommended settings, but I've based it off the default AI settings. Essentially, I use the same ratios between weight training and film study that the computer defaults to for each position and define my ideal minimums for each. Like sabotai, I operate on the high-academics strategy for TCY, targeting guys with 3.00 or better GPAs, 1000 or better test scores and from a H.S. with an academic prep rating of 50 or better. As mentioned, the benefits are twofold: you can allocate more of the recruit's time to weight training and film study (which will speed his development) AND you'll boost your team's academic reputation which will improve your ability to recruit.

If I remember, when I get home tonight I'll try to post the settings I use for time management.

Wow, never even noticed there was a 1.2 patch for TCY. How did that slip under my radar?

Do my scouts randomly pick players to contact too? It seems like some players that appear on the Contacted screen I haven't even looked at. :(

Also, can I view box scores somehow? My Michigan State won 79-0 in my first game.. I wanna see how they did. :)

Err.. how far can you play the demo? I'm at the end of Week 2, and I can't sim week three, or even do recruting for it. :(

Mike -

Check out the various option pages, that's where you save Box Scores/Game Logs for no-one, Your Team Only, and everyone. Also, you can set/unset assistants doing recruiting there as well.

It's been a long time since I've played the demo, so can't answer the last. :-)

You have the option of turning on or off assistance from the AI in recruiting, as well as other areas like managing your roster, your gameplans, etc. Options are also available to save box scores and/or game logs. I believe the demo only lasts 2 weeks. I'm not sure if the TCY Helper utility reads demo files or not.

I've included the worksheet I use for my time management settings. The study hall settings, if followed, should get you a team GPA somewhere around 3.30 or higher, with no academic probations (except for the occasional mid-season walk-on with lousy aspiration and intelligence). If you don't think you need a GPA quite that high you can adjust downward. I usually operate with 17 for practice time - others may do more.

If my guys have girlfriends and need 20 or less for study hall, I'll give them 27 for relaxation time. If they need more time I'll drop that to 26 or 25, and the real dummies I may drop to 24. For guys without girlfriends, my standard setting is 19 for the smart guys, 18 for linemen and medium smart guys, 17 for the lunkheads.
