Sure the flare could mess with our phones and power, but look at the picture of what it did in Norway!

Maybe we have a chance to get the "wall of fire" effect that so many were expecting back on New Year's Eve 2000.

That is a cool little light show.
I want to take this time to mention that I finally watched "The Big Lebowski" on the praise of several from this mesage board and others, and I DEMAND MY 117 MINUTES BACK!!!
That was a true steaming pile of poo.

Airlines are also alerted, because some navigation systems may be affected.
This quote was reassuring to me, as I prepare board a plane bound for Pittsburgh this afternoon.

YES! That movie sucks so very very badly. I don't remember laughing more than once or twice throughout the entire thing. I know part of the problem is that my friends overhyped it so much I expected pure brilliance, so when it was just average, I viewed it as total crap. Make sense? Anyway, I don't like it at all.

Exactly! The other thing playing it up was that it was a Coen brothers film. They have made some brilliant films (Raising Arizona and O Brother Where Art Thou?), but this was a complete miss. I get a sense that Intolerable Cruelty is along the same track. I am a big fan of Clooney but there is just something about this movie that seems to suggest I would not like it.

A solar storm huh? Maybe that would explain why the wife was so Randy this morning.

Yours too? :)
(by the way, when you capitalize "randy" it makes it look like your wife turned into a man).

If you liked "O Brother Where Art Thou?," I'm surprised you didn't like "The Big Lebowski." Both are sort of journies to the upsurd. I remember when I first saw Lebowski, I didn't like it as much as I do now (but I still liked it). It has definitely been a move that has gotten much better upon repeated viewing. You pick up on all the things the Dude embodies. He is just a reflection of his surroundings and constantly regurgatating what other people say (like my signature quote where is just repeating words he heard Bush say on TV). I think the Dude as a hollow vessel spouting out culture is what makes him an interesting hero that defines LA during that period.
And the quotes in that movie are just incredible. I still tell my girlfriend on a regular basis, "We believe in nothing, Lebowski. Nothing," whenever she asks me what I'm doing or thinking. And whenever someone says something inappropriate, I may say, "dude, Chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature. Asian-American, please." And when I want to be lazy, I can't help but say, "The Dude abides."
OK, maybe I'm just a dork, but I think so many of the ideas and quotes from Lebowski define exactly how I feel in a funny way. I love that movie.

The Big Lewbowski is perhaps the funniest movie ever. My girlfriend hated it until I explained it to her and now she loves it. Nothing like getting impared and watching this flick with a few friends.
This is what happens when you....
Ah, memories.

Yes, I like the absurd. I love to find the deeper meaning in movies, and I could see what they were trying to accomplish. I just think they missed.
Of course, it doesn't help that I just can't stand Jeff Bridges. He was the number one reason I hadn't seen the movie to that point. I can't tell you what exactly annoys me about him, but there is just something...

John Goodman was the only redeeming quality of that film (that could also be said of many of his movies).

This is exactly what I was going to say. Watch it again in a few months, and I can almost guarantee you'll like it more. I've seen it about four or five times, and it gets funnier each time.

Back on topic (sort of) I can tell you that pictures alone can't give you the full impact of an Aurora Borealis show. One of the highlights of my life was seeing one while driving with a friend up to Alaska in the spring of '94. We were in the Yukon about 2 in the morning, I was asleep in the back and he pulled over and told me to wake up, I had to see the Northern Lights. We got out of the truck and watched slack-jawed for the next half an hour as the northern sky shimmered with undulating curtains of green light. Amazing stuff...

Let's see. You absolutely hate something, but if you watch again then you'll like it. Ummm....no.

You see, I think you missed the underlining context of this film as a true representation of the explotation of the working class.

Well, maybe you're right. The first time I saw it, I was massively unimpressed, but I can't say that I hated it. It did become much funnier to me each time, though.
