Well, here we are at the end of regular season #20. After autopromoting with a a perfect record last season, the goldurnears found themselves in a division IV. where they were clearly outmatched and prohibitive favorites for automatic demotion -- and that's with a WALKOVER team in the division.

Things were so desperate, that in the early morning hours before the first game of the season, the goldurnears GM decided that a MOTS was in order. This is a generally frowned upon tactic, but we playing at home against Vexroid's NE Oklahoma Sidekicks, who were 1 of only 2 teams that we thought we had a decent chance to beat. Despite pulling a small NSI edge, and a two goal lead, the goldurnears eventually crumpled and lost 3-2. After relentless PICing in league and cup, we faced the other team we thought we had a chance to beat, AS Baconfats, on the road, MOTS'd them, had the early lead, and crumbled again. At that point, much drinking and general uncleanliness ensued.

With five week remaining, we were 7 points behind the Baconfats (including a walkover win), and were also about 20 behind on goal difference. With them in our house, we once again donned the MOTS hat, and this time, managed a 2-1 victory, to pull Baconfats within 4 and keep hope alive for a qualification match. In week 11, we had our walkover, and another Baconfats loss kept us 4 points back.

Week 12 saw the second edition of the Joliet Prison - goldurnears darby, where we scored an improbable 3-3 draw while PIC'ing. That point could well turn out huge, and would have been even bigger if I could have depended on the Sidekicks to pummel Baconfats, but they could only draw, and I was still 4 points short.

Week 13 brought yet another must win game, as the goldurnears hosted the division leading NRH Bulls, who not lost and had drawn only once coming into the game. Down 2-1 in the second half, the goldurnears manage two late goals and held off the Bulls to hand them their first loss of the season. Coupled with yet another Baconfats loss, and we were a scant 1 point plus goal difference behind.

Which brinngs us to Week 14. We travel to the Sidekicks home. Vexroid has indicated that he is going to PIC in order to raise TS for the qualification match, and in a gesture which brings me nearly to tears, is playing his B-team in league play this week. The Baconfats will attempt to fend off the titanic attack of FC Westchester. A goldurnears win and a Baconfats non-win will keep my dream of remaining in IV.10 alive 1 more week, while sending the Baconfats on the express shuttle to V.whatever.

Any well wishers out there can stay tuned up to the minute by watching team 72020 (goldurnears) and 8175 (Baconfats). I'll be posting like a maniac just because I'll be too excited to sit still.

Good luck to the rest of you today as well.

Things are looking up in Morgantown!!

10 minutes in, the goldurnears lead 2-0, while the Baconfats are still scoreless.

In the last hour or so, I've found 3 other FOFC division IV teams fighting for there lives, and am watching their matches as well.

IV.46
Calibiri - Raiders FC 0:0
Fairfax Admirals - Catahoula's 1:0

Calibiri are 1 point in front of Catahoula's with the goal difference advantage (they could lose by six and still qualify with a Catahoula tie)

IV.14
Gasmasters - Mosby's Rangers 0:0
Mudville Kickers - The Strike 1:0

Gasmasters are 3 points behind Rangers for the last qualification spot, but have the goal difference advantage. They are 1 point behind The Strike as well, so are looking to go from 8th to 6th.

IV.19
Fockers - South Park Cows 0:0
Aviators - Kix 0:0

Fockers are 1 point in front of Kix, and have the goal difference locked up.

All FOFC participants are invited to a massive party at The Gold Club after tonights play. Plenty of beer, and the women do what their told and keep their mouth's shut. :)

Baconfats are on the board, leading 1-0. Goldurnears still lead 2-0, but it means nothing unless Westchester can at least level against Baconfats.

30 minutes in

Calibiri lead by 2, and Catahoula's are losing, so Calibiri would appear to be "safe"

Gasmasters have fallen behind 1-0, needing a win and help.

Kix have fallen behind, temporaily giving Fockers a qualification match.

AND THIS JUST IN, WESTCHESTER HAS SCORED 1-1, goldurnears are back in 6th...

Good to hear things are looking up there robbgmaier...here's the latest from Isla Vista...
Standings:
Team Goals Points
1) Tiburones Negros 52-7 33
2) Epoxy United 42-10 32
3) Isla Vista Vandals 48-13 29
4) Saint Louis Imperfe. 35-18 26

Final Week -
Isla Vista Vandals (4) @ Tiburones Negros (0)
Epoxy United (0) @ Saint Louis Imperfect Assembly (2)

Right now, my record against Epoxy and SLIA this season (0-2-2) is really annoying...but things are going as well as they possibly could at the moment.

I'm going to win my series because the leader going in felt it necessary to tank their last game by playing everyone out of position. I'm not sure how I feel about this.

I also MOTS'd, thinking I had zero shot of winning the series, and wanting to have a player win a tight scoring race. So my TS will be shot for the qualifier. Fun, fun, but at least I get a free game. :)

Huh...I think I figured out why I'm demolishing the #1 team (aside from the fact that my team's better ;)). I'm guessing he PIC'ed in preperation for a qual. match up to DIV. However, the #2 team is only a point behind him...kind of risky to bet that he'd lose (even though it IS an away match to the #4 team...all the top four teams in our division are about equal).

I was looking to get cocky and post the official qualification thread, but Baconfats has scored twice, and now trail 4-3 to Westchester. This from a team who sucks on offense. Can they really score two more and save themselves?

ugh....

less than 15 minutes to go, goldurnears up 4, baconfats down 2, I'm starting to get a little excited here, but it might be all the girls here at the club.

calibiri is safe for the moment

gasmasters have just leveled 3-3, needing a win and a The Strike loss to play a qualifier, The Strike are down 2-nil.

fockers is tied, kix is tied, if that holds up fockers get a qualifier

Congratulations robbgmaier! And I'm sorry I wasn't here to join in the fun while it happened - sadly I had to step away from my PC while our matches were being played.

Happy day for us all, though! I'm very pleased to see the FOFC contingent not go down without a fight.

Of course, I had to MOTS just to get this win, and my TS was already furious, so I doubt if I'll have much chance in the qualifier. At least I'll get an extra match for training as a consolation prize, though. :)

Don't get me wrong, but I gave fockers that point.

I'm such a nice guy.
