View Full Version : How ViaTech has made me happy....

Ok, well i'm not sure how most people around here feel about ViaTech, except for negative comments recently that have to do with "renting" a game instead of buying it as Jim gets close to releasing FOF 2004 and is gonna do it by the d/l method instead of selling cd's.

Well, i just wanted to publicly thank them and say they made me a happy man yesterday. Last month I had to wipe clean my hard drive on my 1 1/2 yr old laptop to take care of some problems i had been having (mainly constant lock-ups). With this i had to re-install everything i wanted back on obviously, including my games. Well, 3 main games everyone knows here are FOF2001, TCY, and OOTP5.....i d/l them and had to do the eLicense thing as you all know, using #2 for TCY and OOTP5 ( i thought i had already used #2 for TCY but i guess not) and was unable to get another license for FOF2001.....i said forget FOF, i would wait to get TPF or FOF4 (now 2004 i guess)...anyways, games installed i went my merry way.

So, i get suprised by the wife with the suggestion that i get a brand new notebook comp., since mine was starting to show signs of wearing down and my lock-up problem was starting to come back some, so without haste i said lets go!!! And with only a couple of hours before i had to jump on the truck for the week i went down to Best "place to waste your time to try and" Buy, then to CompUSA where i bought i new beauty HP!!:D

Anyways, to cut my rambling short, i got home Friday and couldn't put TCY and OOTP5 on my new notebook because i was out of licenses........BUT, i explained it all to ViaTech TWICE, once for each game, and they re-issued me my eLicenses for each game, within what was really only a matter of minutes of each request, and that was on Saturday morning when i asked them.....I had been worried that i wouldn't have TCY to go along with FOF2004 when i get it.......Anyways, i had the impression they wouldn't do this from the things i've heard said around here lately, so needless to say i'm a HAPPY HAPPY MAN! :D

Well, I reformat my HD about once every 3 months. I do this to keep the HD clean. I hope they (Via Tech) won't have a problem with that. Can anyone give some advice about this? Thanks in advance.

Every three months? Cheez Whiz.

Anyway, if you KNOW you're going to reformat your drive, and you're not having any computer problems, can't you just unlicense before you reformat?

How do you unlicense? Thanks

Look in your control panel.

Thanks vtbub.

So if I "unlicense" the sim before I reformat, I should be OK then? Thanks.

Yeah. If you unlicense, it returns the license you are using to the server.

I used to re-format my hard drives every 3 to 6 months until they started getting so damn big. Who has time to deal with all the re-installing of programs anymore? I haven't re-formatted a single hard drive in over 3 years and haven’t noticed a bit of difference what so ever. Maybe back in the day when it was a pain to keep hard drives clean any other way then it might have been worth it. Stop wasting your time and just ride the wave already.

LOL, I have a 120 gig and a 75 gig HD that I reformat and ya, it can take some time.

Thanks guys, for the help. I'll have to do this then. I haven't had TYC loaded for a long time so I never ran into any issues because I never played it....

I've never had anything but praises to say about ViaTech. Always very quick to reply to email.

Thank you for stepping up & saying what I think every time I see someone talking about re-formatting as anything other than an emergency measure.

I got an itch to dust off FOF 2001 Friday night but, alas, I couldn't find the order number. I sent an email to viatech at 8pm fully expecting a reply some time next week. Two hours later I had the order id, no questions asked. Two hours after that, I had back-to-back championships. Nice!

Well, I work with PCs all the time. I do this becuase I continuously upgrade my PC, be it hardware or software. Reformating is something the PC user usually doesn't need to do but to avoid conflicts its best to do this IMO.

I've had nothing but good experiences as well, several times I have had one type of problem or another and within an hour I was up and running each time.

Perfect segue...

I will be using ViaTech again for FOF 2004. I looked around at their competition, and didn't like what I saw. They are making changes to alleviate the issues that were forcing me to look elsewhere.

amazingly, I just had to get in touch with them today; I reformatted and forgot to unlicense OOTP.

I sent an email, and had the license reset within 4 hours...on a Sunday. I can't imagine a better way to go than them.

Excellent news! Viatech has a pretty positive track record from what I have read and in my own experience. Looking forward to playing the new game.

Alright Jim, sounds great....hmmmm....good thing i got Railroad Tycoon 3 sunday though......i need something to keep me distracted and i don't want to start a new TCY game until the update to use to draft files for the new FOF.....

And glad to hear others have found Viatech to be good to them....and now i'm also slapping myself up the side of the head for not knowing the "unlicensing" option....DOH!!

This is good news, since it means we're that much closer to getting the game.

And I've always been very satisfied with ViaTech. I've never had licensing issues, and they always respond very quickly to all inquiries.

Very good news indeed for us Europeans, Australians, Canadians and assorted non-Americans !

Well, Canadians weren't in as bad a bind as you, over the big pond. I was able to order FOF4 and get it delivered, albeit with a $10 shipping fee or so and some waiting period for the game to get to me.

Now though, I will be able to get my hands on that puppy the minute it is released... CAN'T WAIT!!! :)

I live for downloadable purchases. I have a love/hate relationship with USmail, UPS, and FedEx.. as in I love to hate them. Dunno what it is about where I live but my deliveries are always getting lost. I'm leary to order anythign through the mail anymore. Its what kept me sticking with FOF2002 and not grabbing the last version. I'm all over this one though.

and to echo everyones elses comments, the people at ViaTech have been great in all the contact I've had with them. Which has been quite a few times as I've been going through alot of computers the past few years.

That's what I mean though, I hate to pay $10 shipping for a $35 product. Hell, I'd rather give Jim the 10 bucks direct, rather than the US Post Office or French PO for that matter !!!

This was news to me, but apparently Jim can ship overseas:

Just stumbled upon that last week. I didn't think it was even an option in the past.

I agree completely, shipping costs suck! Same thing whenever I want to order anything NFL related (nflshop.com used to charge $30 to ship to Canada, never ordered, just bitched about it to one of their online customer service representative), although I may have a connection in Foxboro now... *wink to Eilim* ;)
