View Full Version : OT: Summarize The Matrix for me
Maple Leafs

Turns out the group I work with is taking the afternoon off on Wednesday to see The Matrix III (or whatever it's called). I haven't seen the first two, and know very little about them other than that bullets fly very slowly and the camera spins around a lot.
I don't really want to be "that guy" who keeps bugging everyone in the theatre to explain things to him. Would anyone out there like to help me out by providing a brief summary of the first two movies, plot-wise? I don't need the whole philosophy of the Matrix, just enough to understand who the characters are and what they're supposed to be doing.

Um, I really wouldn't go see this if you haven't seen the other two. The last one just kinda ended in "the middle", and this one is supposed to pick right back up there. Go rent them tonight or something, but there is a lot of story missed if you just get a quick rundown without seeing them.

Keanu Reeves is "Ted," a high school lunkhead who goes back in time with his pal "Bill" and kidnaps a whole bunch of historical figures (such as Napoleon) for their history project.
It's a most excellent adventure.

Yeah, I know I should rent them, but I can't watch them tonight and I don't have the attention span to watch two movies in one sitting.

Just call in sick tomorrow...problem solved.
I think in the second one "Ted" is recruited to play quarterback for the Washington team during a strike year.

No that's part 3.
Part 2 is after he tears up his knee in the Rose Bowl, moves to California and cracks the case on a group of surfing bank robbers.

...and then he's stuck on a bus (that can't go any slower than 55 mph) with Dracula. Throughout which he retains a really baaaaad accent.

But what is missed if you watch the deleted scenes, "Ted" changes his name to Shane Falco. Footsteps Falco.
When does he spend the month with the woman dying from cancer? (yes, my wife made me see it)

The first movie: Pretty Darned good. Fancy special effects, the introduction of the slow bullet.
The second movie: Picture 30 minutes of crap, followed by nearly two hours of fancy special effects, and a minor in quaint philosophy.

I thought I was the only person in the world who hadn't seen any of these movies. I guess I'm not alone.

I thought I was the only person in the world who saw the first one and didn't particularly like it, and therefore never saw another one.
I didn't realize that a third one is out.

Boy meets Girl.
Everything slows down to a crawl like hitting your pause button on the VCR 300 times in a row.
Boy saves Girl.
Boy wakes up and still meets Girl.
Boy saves Girl again.
Boy must choose Door or Girl.
I did like the two movies though. :)
