BCS Rankings for Week 3 (ping HornedFrog)

What really jumps off the page to me is the incredibly real possibility of TCU making a BCS game. Now, we won't be talking about a run at the national title game, but they have a chance to bring home some serious cash if they win out.

Thoughts anyone?

Well I don't want to say anything to jinx it heh

I am taking the Gary Patterson approach, after the next 4 games then we will see what happens. I don't know if you read the other thread about the playoffs etc, but this would be a dream come true to get into a BCS game. I would be happy and the money would go to improve the facilities.

3 of their next 4 games are going to be tough. Louisville has the 9th ranked offense in the country, Cincy plays the spread which gives the Frogs trouble sometimes and going to Southern Miss is a hard game to win.

This has all happened with our starting QB out for most of the season, down to our 3rd string tailback for part and the loss of 2 of our starting secondary which had 3 new faces to begin with.

Moreover it would be great to see a team who has had only 6 Texas Top 100 players (no national Top 100) taken in the last 5 years screw the system. No one wanted LT, he was too small.

No matter what happens, kids in Texas are going to start to realize there is good football being played here besides Austin, College Station and Lubbock.

Somebody will get squeeze out of a BCS spot after Missouri runs the table, wins the Big XII North, and upsets Oklahoma for the automatic bid. :)

What jumps out to me is seeing seven conferences represented in the top 10. With so much league play left this is really surprising. With the Michigan/OSU game and the possible LSU/Georgia title game two of these teams could drop out, but it looks like eight of these ten could be here at the end.

Ohio State gets no respect I say. They probably won't win out, but I don't think they should be ranked #6/#7 in the polls. If they do win out, then they deserve a chance of playing in the tittie game.

Yes, they should.

I thought last years OSU team was the real deal. They earned their title.

I don't think this years OSU team is all that great. I don't think they are a top ten team.

Thing is, who do you rank over the top of them?

A two loss Michigan team? The only one loss teams they are ranked over are Virginia Tech and LSU. (TCU doesn't really count here because we all know they aren't going to the national title game)

Even if you put Tech and LSU above them, they still aren't out of the top ten. I do think it's likely they'll lose two of the next three and take a nosedive. Still, they are right where they belong as of now.

If they win out, there could be a great case made for them to go back to the title game. (My choice would be USC if they run the table, but you could make a solid case that OSU should be there)

Since I don't have a horse in the race, I'm just going to hope for the maximum carnage possible. Either have USC, LSU, Miami, VT, F$U and Ohio St lose again and TCU stay undefeated or have Oklahoma lose and all those teams stay with 1-loss.

Wow, I guess EA Sports is not so bad after all. TCU is consistently in the top in my NCAA 2004 dynasty (and was so in my NCAA 2003 dynasty as well).

I found it deeply annoying. I tried to schedule them every year to beat them badly and put them in their place, along with Louisville and Fresno State.

TCU took 11 players in the Consensus Texas Top 75 in the years 2000-2002 alone. Running back Tyson Thompson of Irving was a National Top 100 player.

The statement that "no one wanted LT" is also incorrect. There was certainly incorrect talent evaluation done, but Texas was interested in LT. We had filled up on RBs with Hodges Mitchell and Darnell McDonald.

What typically ends up happening with these non-BCS schools is they get a little too excited and end up slipping up on one of their games towards the end of the season. I actually hope that TCU maybe makes the Fiesta Bowl or something. But a lot of teams would have to lose to make that happen.

Wow, you sure get angry when you're wrong. I never said Tyson Thompson was on the roster. Guess what, Texas has taken top recruits that never made the roster either.

Player issues such as legal problems, grades, and transfers have nothing to do with "taking" top players.

As for LT, you need to work more on reading what is actually written and not what you infer. You're right, Texas never contacted LT. Because, as I said, we had filled up on RBs. But our staff was aware of him and knew he was a good player. They screwed up, but they knew he was good.

By the way, you are the one who was dreadfully wrong on Texas' passing offense, but I suppose that has escaped your memory, right? I mean, little things like trying to educate others on who is making good reads in the Texas offense when you've got the read progression completely backwards really aren't that big a deal, so I understand.

TCU escaped last night... could that final play have been any more heartbreaking for Lousiville?

For those who didn't see the game. It was 31-28 (TCU leading) and Lousiville kicking the tying field goal from about 42-45 yards. The kick was looking good, and then bounced off the crossbar and fell short. Could not have been any closer, and was a dramatic finish to a great game.

I don't know why I care, but I'm really rooting for the Horned Frogs to sneak into a BCS game. Of course if they do manage it, they'll be carrying the collective hope and credibility of the small conferences on their shoulders. They'd better deliver!
