That my friend is NOT a given! Pack wins tomorrow night they are only a game back..........So saying that now is as bad as everyone (including I) saying before the season that is was gonna be a cake walk for the Pack to win the division title.....its a whole new game now, Minnesota has had NO defense for 3 straight weeks, so they will have to get that fixed if they want to get going again.

The Vikes will fix the defensive woes. Most of the problem is from CB's not coming up fast enough. I think it'll be corrected. They are still getting a decent pass rush and moving the ball at will.
For anyone who saw that game, was that about the worst announcing job you've ever heard? I'd give examples, but I'd be here for an hour and would miss The Simpsons. That's not an option.

I don't understand SD's decision to play Flutie here. Despite his awful performance this year, Brees is clearly the guy SD is still hinging its future on. He's played poorly and probably needs, above all else, a good game to get his confidence back. So what does SD do when they go up against a team whose defense has gotten raked over the coals the past couple of games? They sit Brees and play Flutie. Brilliant. Minnesoa is falling apart defensively and Brees could have led this team to victory just as easily as Flutie could.

When you don't tackle, cover or pass rush, you don't win games. If the defense continues like this, 6-10 would not surprise me one bit. The problem is not the offense, teams that score 28 pts a game should win most of those games. The league has our defensive weaknesses figured out, plain and simple.
It was a nice run.

You're giving up way too quickly. The pass rush is there, the CB's are laying too far off the WR right now. They aren't coming up quick enough to support the run either.
The Raiders looked ready to implode at this time last year. The Bucs were sitting at 4-4.
People have adjusted to the Viking defense. They'll readjust back.
I think a reverse effect is going on in Green Bay. Teams sliced through their defense like a hot knife through butter at the start of the season. The Pack have adjusted back and are playing much better. The defensive talent is still the same, they are weak up front. Teams will figure out the method of attack and start slicing and dicing again.

A couple things here. Have the Vikings not been getting run on pretty dang good too? I know Green/Davenport/Fisher all did great against them for the Packers, i thought SD did pretty good today too but i haven't seen the stats.
And i wish what you said about the Pack was totally true but its not. Green Bay is one of the worst (think i heard #30 in the NFL) defenses, and they will continue to struggle unless guys just plain start playing better. I like our DB's a lot but they are getting eaten alive out there because there is no such thing as a pash rush in GB and scheme isn't gonna change that much because the last couple years the Packers have had one of the better scheme's to get to QB's. Maybe, i hope and pray, that signing whats his name off waivers from NO will help a little, atleast as far as the depth.

They've did a variety of things to play a little better on D the past couple of weeks. Different disguises, that type of thing.
The Vikes are getting run on on the outside. The middle of the D is still solid. Both your Pack and the Chargers exploited those flaws today. They can be adjusted to. The Viking DL is still playing fairly well in terms of holding up at the point of attack and rushing the passer. The outside guys aren't doing their jobs now.

I adamantly disagree. The pass rush is non existant. 4 sacks the last 3 games. Chris Hovan's name has not been called at all the last 3 weeks. We've had 3 QB's pick us apart, 2 of which i consider average at best (Favre being the exception).
Let's face it, the Vikings are being exposed for what they are, a talentless defense.

Dola
The first 6 weeks had to be a mirage. O'Leary did a fantastic job of masking our defensive weaknesses, but it only lasts so long. Then game film starts getting out and teams start to figure out where they can attack you. That is precisely what has happened, and the thing is, we don't have the talent or the depth to fix the problem. Plain and simple.

The problem with that theory is Brees has NEVER had anything above a average game, and I doubt he'd of won as convincingly, if at all. They needed a spark, and Flutie gave them one.

LOL.
4 sacks in three games is true. The problem is even with a rush they need some help. They aren't getting beat deep down the field. For the most part they are getting beat with quick outs, slants and curls.
I haven't seen a long run up the middle on the unit in any of the last three games. Again, everything is going to the outside.
Last year the Panthers had a three game stretch where they gave up 1085 yards and 98 points. In their next five games they gave up 87 points and 1360 yards. (17 points and 272 yards a game) The Panthers were a great defense and that turned ordinary for awhile.
The Vikings are an average defense turning into crap. They ARE an average defense. They won't continue to play this badly. Coaching film works both ways. Sometimes it takes a few weeks to adjust to what other teams are doing to you.
Oh, one more thing: Collins is a pretty good QB. Granted, he didn't show it today, but he's a guy who threw for over 4,000 yards last year. He's on pace to throw for well over 3500 this year.
We'll see what happens, but I agree with McKerney. They will still win the division. They'll still be a dangerous team come playoff time.

And when was the last time your baseball team won a World Series? How about your hockey team? Did they make it to the conference finals last year? Oops, sorry, just a friendly little jab from a Minnesota fan. =P
Ah, i'd be remiss to not pay kudos to your Badgers for giving the Gophers everything they could handle yesterday. I think the Gophers won that one too though. All i can say about the Vikings is that they did a great job breaking in the newly remodeled Lamebo Field.
Edit--This reply is a lame attempt to draw attention away from my Vikings squad. Thank you.

OK, LOLx5
I'm not a Vikings fan. I'm a Bronco fan. I actually like every team in the division. I know that's blasphemy, how can I like both the Pack and the Bears? The Vikes and the Packers? The Lions and the Bears?
Randy Moss is one of my least favorite players in the game today. (great to watch, I could live without his off the field crap) Brett Farve is probably one of my top 5 favorite players in the game today. (If I could just forget that Strahan thing)
This is actually one of the things that has always fascinated me about both this board and the public in general. When I was on the radio in college, the same things came up. If I talked up a certain team, I was a fan of that team. If I predicted them to lose, then I must hate that team.
In the college football forum someone thinks I have Big12 blinders on. Chief Rum can tell you from conversations that I've talked down the Big12 for two years now. I picked Oklahoma to win out, obviously I'm an OU fan. (let me put this mildly. . . I HATE OU AND HOPE THEY LOSE TO UTEP)
I don't think the Packers are going to win with the D. I thought they'd go 9-7 or 8-8 to start the year and nothing they've done has changed my mind. I thought the Vikings would win 10 games. I still think they will. I was wrong about the Chiefs though. They are better than I thought. I still don't think they are the best team in the AFC, but I'll rank em third now. :)

And who called it??
So did I :(
Right now, I think the biggest problem with the Viking defense is their linebackers. Watching the game today, I don't remember any of their LBs mentioned making a play. Biekert and Crockett in particular just haven't been around the ball this year. And considering our defensive problems have been their for a few weeks, I'm not optimistic they will be fixable.
That said, Oakland is probably the perfect team for the Vikings to be playing right now. Hopefully they will play the Oakland receivers at the line and challenge them to go deep.

Like rats??? That's pretty harsh for someone that lives in a trailer park and drinks warm Blatz. But agreed, it does add to the rivalry. I get a kick out of harrassing the Packer faithful each time i go to the grocery store or cafe. The old "How many Superbowls have you won?" line gets beat into the ground. Fair enough, as long as i stay away from the Blatz and the trailer parks, life is good.

E.J. will be playing a lot more also. He has to, we need more outside speed, as stated by someone in an earlier post. I would keep Biekert in the middle and go Rogers and E.J. on the outsides. What the hell? What they are doing now isn't getting the job done.

I'd REALLY hate to be a player you are coaching. You take poor three game stretches and act as though they are the true barometer of a player's worth.
The guy has been all over the field all year. His 55 solo tackles is more than Al Wilson and 8 behind tackle king Ray Lewis. He has 3 sacks, an INT and 6 passes defended as well.
Along with the rest of the defense, he's struggled the past few weeks. It doesn't mean he should lose his starting job and it doesn't mean he's had a poor year. He had a poor THREE games. (and I watched yesterday's game, he was blocked on both of Tomlinson's long runs, the safeties both took poor angles. . . outside of the long runs, the passing went to the WR on the outside, very little happened over the middle. . . in other words, I don't think he played that poorly yesterday.)
If I ever have a son who plays football and you happen to be a coach in the area, let me know. :)

Troy, i have no plans on moving to Denver. Besides, this isn't about me, i'm not a coach, i'm a fan, and a disgruntled one at that. And rightfully so. So savaging the defense's lackluster performace the last 3 weeks is my right, and i'm exercising it. If they right the ship the next few games, great. That will prove me wrong, because i don't think it's going to happen. But, that's why they play the games i guess.
