View Full Version : I've been fired!!

From USC in my new TCY dynasty. This is my first time playing since the 1.2 patch came out and is it just me being out of touch with the strategy of the game, or is this version significantly harder then previous versions of TCY? Of course, I'm playing on the highest difficulty level. I went 11-2 and finished 5th in the nation my first year. Then, I went 10-3 my second year and finished 23rd in the nation. Then, my third year I went 5-6 due to a rash of injuries to my starting QB and both tackles and the lack of depth to really throw the ball most of the year. That was it. I was canned. I have coach movement set to low. To add insult to injury, Kodiak of the Solecismic 8 is the only team willing to give me a second chance. Guess it is time to get out the long johns.

Brrrrrr.....

Playing on "The Frozen Tundra of Lambeau Field" is just a phrase. Think what it will actually be like.....

Dola -

I just looked at my Kodiak roster and almost every single player on the roster has a current rating of poor. This should be uhhhmm.. interesting.

Well, the team I'm taking over is 4-29 in 3 years. It was 0-11 last year. The prestige is the lowest in the nation at 50. The question is: If I build my reputation back up and I ever get offered a job again from USC, do I take it or refuse to take it out of spite?

Dammit dude, watch you thread titles. I was wondering what you had to have done to get fired, but I was sure the word malpractice was in it...

Sad to say, but I think once you sink to Kodiak level, you never come back. No respectable team would ever hire a former Kodiak coach. :D

Eagles:

It is definitely possible to build that team up to elite status. I have taken an SC8 team that was #125 in Prestige and #117 in Academics to the top of the heap, winning 2 national titles with something like 8 straight Top 5 finishes.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. It is looking like a long bleak trip, but I'm going to stick it out. I decided to switch to a wishbone offense (which I've never run in TCY) due to my main talent being at running back, and my QB only being good at scrambling. So far, I'm 0-4, but I have given New Mexico State and Fairbanks a good scare. I lost both of those games by a combined 10 points.

Your TCY adventure reads like a true coaches story.
Make sure your next contract is guarrenteed!

If this isn't currently documented in the Dynasty Report thread...then it oughtta be...Estranged former USC head coach vows revenge for firing...that's got drama and passion written all over it. You could even start trying to bribe USC's top recruits...try to lure away some of their disgruntled players...man, screw trying to beat them on the field...play dirty and kick them in the nuts!!!!

Maybe I will take this material and start a dynasty thread with it... but just for a quick update. I just lost my first good recruit from Alaska.. a wide receiver who actually projected to be a good player.. He went to USC

On the plus side, I did manage to sign several decent looking offensive linemen from Alaska.

Umm ... why do those linemen have antlers?

Well, I'm leaning towards not doing a dynasty write-up of this right now, because I want to make plenty of draft files for FOF 2004. However, I thought I'd share my annoyance. Last year with USC, I stuck with a sophmore Quarterback Cary Finkes, because of injuries to my senior star QB. The kid developed. I get fired. Cary win the player of the year award th year after I'm fired with 3900 yards passing 40 touchdowns versus 11 interceptions. My Kodiak team only finishes 2-9  The only good news is we got some decent recruits (actually got a 78 score for recruiting [but my class ranked 124th out of 125  ] but a zero for attendance/stadium.) Oh well, the rebuilding continues.

I'm sorry if anyone is bothered by me posting this update here.. perhaps I should start something in a dynasty forum, but I'm so excited that I decided to write a quick update. MY team in my 2nd season is 2-0 including a big upset against Wyoming. I'm starting a true freshman at QB whom was fairly well regarded in H.S. for his running ability. He is from Fresno, California and so far he has rushed for 220 yards and 2TD and passed for 230 yards with 2TD and 0 interceptions. Also, I have a inside linebacker from Alaska who is much better then advertised with green bars that are almost all the way maxed and he has two 12 tackle games, and 2 sacks in the game against Wyoming! :)

Again...I've dug up an old thread instead of working...

So, do you remember what happened with this old career? Sounds like it was becoming more meaningful with Kodiak than the first three years at USC were.

Hmmm.. I'm not sure. I know I have it saved on my desktop computer (on the laptop now.) I'll check it out later today. I know I played for several more years, and was doing fairly well with Kodiak.

Whew! :)

Hehe.. sorry about that. I was surprised to see this thread bumped. Actually, I do have a small dilemma related to the job thread. Boss of Job A and boss of job B both invited me to Christmas Parties tomorrow night. They are both scheduled from 2-5 PM (wierd timing IMHO.) As if that wasn't bad enough, Ms. Eaglesfan has an award dinner that I need to accompany her to from 7:00 - 10 PM tomorrow night. So, I have 8 hours of being really dressed up (which I hate.) Also, I have to figure out to gracefully exit the 1st party and apologize for my lateness at the 2nd party.. Fortunately, the two parties are only a few blocks from each other.

No problem - in each case simply use the excuse of "I am/was suffering from gastrointestinal distress." No further questions will be asked of you. :D

SIThis is already turning into a comical disaster. I *should* be at the first party right now. However, Ms. Eaglesfan has messed things up just a little ;)

I've asked her all week long.. do you have the dress you want to wear? Do you have the shoes you want to wear? Do you have the earrings you want to wear? etc etc.. She can be very indecisive at times. Anyway, she tells me, "yes.. yes.. stop asking yes!" all week long.

Well, we get up relatively early as planned. She starts getting ready at 12:00 Noon.. at 1 she tells me, I really don't like these shoes with this dress. I sigh and say they look great. She decides she really can't stand the shoes with her dress!

I ask her if she wants me to go get her shoes while she finishes getting ready. She says "NO, you can't pick out good shoes for yourself, let alone me." I sigh. She gets undressed and redressed and says, "I'll be back in 20 minutes" Well, at 2:10 she finally walks back in the door. Now it is taking her forever to get ready again!!!

At this rate, we *might* leave by 3:00 and get to spend about 45 minutes at each party. Fortunately, from talking to a friend of mine who works at Job A, it seems this is the type of party where people float in and out all the time, and a 45 minute appearance isn't that unusual. Of course, she would have a fit if I made her late to her dinner later tonight ;)

Update!

Oh, and see- this is where my stubborness would kick in. If this happened, I'd find some way to make myself late to the dinner even if it required faking car trouble or something (ooh... that's a good one. I hadn't thought of it earlier). ;)

Huh? (Hoping this is just a joke from the original post in this thread)

As far as the parties went.. Job A was at the top boss' home. He owns one of Emeril's old houses.. It was amazing! I've also never felt so uncomfortable in someone's home. It's wierd even calling that considering it was a 4 floor mansion with an elevator, 3 kitchens, and tons of other stuff. Anyway, the head boss of job A whom I've *never* met in person prior to this party, told me that "he really likes me" 5 times at least. He also told me at least 5 times "We will do whatever we need to do to get you to work for us." He told me he wants to meet with me in his office in January after the holidays to personally negotiate my contract.

Job B's party was at a fancy hotel, and it was also very nice. I hate being dressed up at parties, but I felt more comfortable at this party just because it wasn't in the guy's home. I've also met the head boss of B before in person, so I wasn't quite as unsteady. He also told me they are determined to hire me, but I don't remember exactly what he said.

Anyway, no one complained about us leaving early or coming late. In fact, some people arrived later than us at the 2nd party, and others left before us at the 1st party.

Ms. Eaglesfan and I were on time to her dinner, which I was glad. As she won a rather prestigious award for "Apprentice of the Year" for the New Orleans Chapter (which serves most of Eastern Louisiana) of the American Culinary Federation. Besides a nice statue, she was given a check for a 1000 dollars! She went to bed (she drank a little much between the various parties but didn't make an ass of herself) and I can now watch the Eagles game in peace :)

What jobs are you working for/being pursued for?

Eaglesfan27
12-12-2004, 11:19 PM
Well, see my jobs thread for the mysterious details.. basically I'm being pursued for 4 jobs right now. Job A is a well respected medical school that wants me to join their faculty. I'd be taking care of patients at local hospital. I'd also be teaching medical students and residents.

Job B is a competing medical school (also well respected) that would be offering me similar responsibilities. I think the fact that I did my adult residency for the institution of Job B, and my fellowship for the institution of job A has something to do with their interest in me. Also, I think beyond my inherent qualifications as a doctor and teacher, they both want me so bad just so the other one doesn't get me. Their is a great deal of bad blood between these two institutions, particularly in my area of expertise..
