<b>Golden Eagles FC management beginning to feel pressure</b>

After a disappointing third place finish in V.167, the Golden Eagles FC are expected to feel the pressure from their supporters to win league honors this season. The third place finish was the second straight for the Golden Eagles FC, which finish third in their inaugural season (Hattrick season 19). Last season, despite consistently putting up a NSI rating in the area of 65, the team sluggishly finished behind LA Scullkickers and Dead Rabbits FC. It was obvious that the Eagles out performed these teams, but still seemed snake bitten all year long. “We had some bad luck all year long,” team owner Tim Brice said. Brice pointed to an instance in the first game of the season, where his team lost at home by two goals despite posting a 12 point NSI difference. “That kind of kick started the whole season in the wrong direction. I would be upset to see that happen again.” Brice’s team got some revenge by pounding that same Deutsch Fire FC team, 4-1, in the last game of the season. “That is how we have to play all year long. We can take no mercy on teams. We can not take any games off. The bar is high this year,” remarked Brice.

The supporting club of the team, the Golden Nation, seems to agree with Brice. At a booster meeting, it was made clear that anything less of auto promotion would be unsatisfactory. The club now boosts 1,057 supporters strong. Questions were asked about how the club would get there. Brice attended the meeting and did his best to answer the questions imposed. Brice said changes were on the way to assure that the team would be able to compete for the league title. He made it clear, however, that long terms goals would not be sacrificed for short term gains.

Speculation has begun about what changes will be made to the club side. With the sale of wingback Stefan Silverman imminent, it is clear that changes will in fact be made. The hot rumor going around is that coach Howie Mccllealand is on his way out. If this is true, then the team would most likely replace the passable trainer with a solid trainer. Other rumors are circulating that star defender Jose Luis Larragoitti could be sold within the next couple of weeks. “I would be sad to see Jose go, but I know team management would be selling him just to improve the team in other areas,” one anonymous supporter was quoted. “As far as the coaching situation goes, I think the current guy has done a good job but it is time for a change so that we can get to the next level.” Most supporters agree with this assessment.

The Golden Eagles FC are expected to face a stern challenge for glory from Dead Rabbits FC, who finished second place last year. The Rabbits are lead by 18 year old winger Danny Johnson and Erik Berg. Most predictions point to these two franchises battling out for the league title. ”They (Dead Rabbits FC) are tough. I expect them to keep getting better as the season goes along. It will be a challenge for us to beat them,” Brice said. Supporters are making it clear that they expect that battle to be won.

<i>Author’s note: This is the third installment of the Golden Eagles FC. Unfortunately, the second installment is incomplete. However, if you review the first (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7375&highlight=Golden+Eagles) and second (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11570&highlight=golden+eagles) installments, as well as checking out my Hattrick history page, you should get a rough idea of the history of the club. I hope to update this as much as the first and I have a feeling I will be able too. I would also like to thank <b>saintjo</b>, as the lone supporter of my club.</i>

<b>Previewing V.167</b>

In order to completely understand the Golden Eagles FC, you need to know how stiff of a competition we will face in the league. The division we are in is not a particularly tough division but it has some opponents who can put up a formidable challenge. In my opinion, two teams will really pull away with this thing. I will touch on that more in a minute. Anyway, on with the predictions…

<i>Predicted order of finish:</i>

<b>1. Golden Eagles FC</b> - I know I am a bit biased, but I think we have the best shot at winning the league title (correct me if I am wrong). We have the best midfield in the league by three or four levels. We are easily capable of putting up solid and with the winger I am looking to buy, we should be able to put up an excellent. Our defense is by far the best league even if we are ‘retooling’ it. The attack is not the best, but ranks top three and should be good enough to get us by. Our schedule also plays I our favor, seeing the other top two teams in week one and three and being able to PIC every game in-between. Predicted NSI: 74

<b>2. Dead Rabbits FC</b> - This is a team owned by a fellow FOFCer who knows exactly what he is doing. They finished second last season. He trains wingers and has a whole slew of talented young wingers. This makes his attack ratings very daunting and I suspect they will be better by at least two levels by the latter part of the season. The midfield for this team usually posts about an inadequate. His defense is average. I really do not want to get into to much strategy on this team, since the owner is lurking on the boards. Predicted NSI: 58

<b>3. Deutsch Fire FC</b> - I consider this team the red headed step child of V.167. They have been in the division forever and have went no where and this year will be no exception. They do not have the financial backing (as of right now) or training program (trains general) to compete with the top two teams. The poor to weak midfield simply does not cut it. The team has perhaps the best attack in the league but it is not enough. The defense is about average and similar to Dead Rabbits FC. This team still scares me though, as they are prone to cause an upset. Predicted NSI: 57

<b>4. Penguins and Polar Bears</b> - With a team name like Penguins and Polar Bears, you would think one could take this team lightly. That is not entirely true. This team earned big draws with Dead Rabbits FC and Deutsch Fire FC in the latter part of the season last year. It is owned by an active owner who has a decent grasp of Hattrick. They put up a weak midfield and the second best defensive ratings in the league. His attack is usually inadequate all the way across. Predicted NSI: 50

<b>5. GoTeam</b> - GoTeam is new V.167 after winning their series title in VI. The team really only inherits this position because of default. They are not a strong team and shouldn’t create that much noise this season. It does not like he has training program on board either. His wretched midfield allowed him to compete in VI but now has chance of competing with the top teams. His attack is lacking and his defense has several holes to exploit. Predicted NSI: 35

<b>6. Broken Arrow</b> - Broken Arrow is a bot team from Las Vegas that was demoted from Division IV. The team has suffered from inactivity and will not be able to respond until the ownership is changed. At one time the team could have been a really strong team, but now, as I said is inactive. The team still puts up decent ratings and may win enough games against weaker competition to give the new owner (if he knows what he is doing) a shot at creating some noise. The weak midfield will scare some teams. Predicted NSI: 46

<b>7. Hoshi Hua</b> - This another team whose owner never logged into Hattrick. Why apply for a team if your never going to give it the time of the day? The team has minimal players and will not to do anything until the ownership is changed. I have no idea when that will be. I think this team has been inactive longer than others. They managed to win their qualification match over another bot team. Predicted NSI: 43

<b>8. Florida Apaches</b> - This yet another bot team who was auto promoted from Division VI. If you ask me, Hattrick should spread out the human owners so that Division V would be more quickly filled with active human owners. This would also allow people to become more ‘hooked’ to the game and would not abandon their team so soon. The way stands now, a human who takes over this team will be in last place and will get blown out of the water by my team and others. Predicted NSI: 33

<b>Golden Eagles FC Season 21 Roster</b>

The roster has been ‘retooled’ and rebuilt for the most part. Long term readers will not recognize many of the players, as very few of the original Golden Eagles are left. However, things are better around the club. I guess its obligatory to mention that we had a youth pull, in the form of Lesley Milton, sell for $976,000. This helped finance several new purchases, which you will see below. We are training defending and being that it is a U-20 season, we have been seeking players who could play on the U-20 team in their respective countries. This is important because experience plays such a big role now.

Anyways, on to the roster…

<b>Head Coach</b>

Howie Mcclelland
-Nationality: American
-Age: 52
-Training: Passable (6)
-Leadership: Inadequate
-Coaching Type: Defensive Minded

Howie has been the club’s trainer since March 27th, 2003. During his span, he has led the Golden Eagles to two straight third place finishes. His coaching record has been 23-10-3 in league and cup matches. He has done a good job as the trainer. However, the rumors of him leaving the club soon are substantial. We are seeking a solid coach who places an emphasis on the attack. This will help our younger players which we are bringing in. Look for us to have a solid coach installed by week 4.

<b>Starters</b>

<i>Goalkeeper</i>

#1 Jochen Schultz
-Nationality: German
-Age: 24
-Current Form: Solid (7)
-Experience: Wretched (2)
-Assessed Value: $217,000
-Wage: $2,064
-Goaltending: Passable (6)

Jochen was on of the first players purchased for the Golden Eagles FC. He was bought for $64,000. He has done an admirable job for the club so far. He has played in 27 competitive matches for the club, posting thirteen shut outs. His days as the starter may be limited. We will begin in about week 5 or 6 pulling keepers from our youth squad and until we get the high solid that we want.

<i>Central Defenders</i>

#14 Jose Luis Larragoiti
-Nationality: American
-Age: 21
-Current Form: solid (7)
-Experience: Wretched (2)
-Assessed Value: $231,000
-Wage: $1,650
-Stamina: Solid (7)
-Defending: Excellent (8)

Jose has been around the club since the beginning of season 19, purchased from MiddleSex Athletic for $36,000. He has been a rock in the central defense since then. He is two weeks away from popping to formidable. When that happens, he will be sold for hopefully $1.5 million. This is to finance our new coach and a stadium expansion. The thinking behind this is long term since our series is weak enough to get by.

#21 Daniel Ukenings
-Nationality: German
-Age: 19
-Current Form: weak (4)
-Experience: Disastrous (1)
-Assessed Value: $92,000
-Wage: $1,260
-Defending: Solid (7)
-Passing: Passable (6)
-Specialty: Head

Daniel was purchased for $6,000 back towards the end of season 19. He has seen some growth in his defending since then. He has the passable passing, all important for the counter attack (not that we will be needing it this season). He has the head specialty as well, which is important for defenders. It is my guess that he is about three or four weeks away from bumping to excellent.

#23 Dan Higgins
-Nationality: American
-Age: 18
-Current Form: passable (6)
-Experience: Disastrous (1)
-Assessed Value: $105,000
-Wage: $990
-Stamina: Passable (6)
-Defending: Solid (7)
-Specialty: Head

Dan is another guy with the head specialty, so it should be rare that we get scored on in the air. He just bumped to solid in the last training update. It should be another 7 weeks or so before bumping to excellent. There is an outside chance he could be formidable by the end of the year. He was purchased for $30,000 in season 20.

<i>Inner Midfielders</i>

#7 Roger Bengtsson
-Nationality: Swedish
-Age: 32
-Current Form: passable (6)
-Experience: passable (6)
-Assessed Value: $165,000
-Wage: $2,244
-Stamina: Excellent (8)
-Playmaking: Excellent (8)
-Passing: Inadequate (5)

Roger was purchased for a modest $459,000. He plays a central midfield role for us. He does not play defensive or offensive. I like to consider the role a ‘patrol’ type mode. When he is solid or excellent form he will put up four and half starts for us, which obviously helps a lot.

#2 Kai Thinggaard
-Nationality: Danish
-Age: 28
-Current Form: solid (7)
-Experience: inadequate (5)
-Assessed Value: $235,000
-Wage: $2,496
-Stamina: Excellent (8)
-Playmaking: Solid (7)
-Passing: Solid (7)

Kai is a fine offensive midfielder who is capable of putting up four stars in that role. He was purchased last season for $479,000. He adds at least a level to our central attack. Judging by his high value and rather weak other secondaries, I would say he is at a very high solid playmaker as well.

#3 Per Jansson
-Nationality: Swedish
-Age: 34
-Current Form: passable (6)
-Experience: Solid (7)
-Assessed Value: $15,000
-Wage: $924
-Stamina: Solid (7)
-Playmaking: Passable (6)
-Passing: Passable (6)

Per has been with us since the word go, purchased in the early days of the Golden Eagles FC. He is a hard character to figure out. Despite his low value, he puts up three starts in passable form. In solid or above form, he will put up three and half stars. However he is aging quickly and that may be out of his reach now. An upgrade will occur at this position as soon as the financing is available. He also plays an offensive role.

<i>Wingers</i>

#11 Beau Bosma
-Nationality: Dutch
-Age: 30
-Current Form: Solid (7)
-Experience: Inadequate (5)
-Assessed Value: $215,000
-Wage: $2,424
-Winger: Excellent (8)
-Passing: Passable (6)

Beau was purchased for a modest $161,000 at the end of season 20. In his only match for the Golden Eagles FC, he posted a three and half star rating in solid form. He could possibly put up four stars in excellent form. He plays offensively. He boosted our attack rating from passable to excellent.

#5 Grigore Dogaru
-Nationality: Romanian
-Age: 21
-Current Form: Solid (7)
-Experience: Poor (3)
-Assessed Value: $90,000
-Wage: $1,152
-Winger: Passable (6)
-Scoring: Passable (6)
-Passing: Inadequate (5)

Grigore was originally brought in as a forward but wind up playing winger for us. He was purchased for $25,000 at the end of season 19. He has done a decent job posting two and half stars on average. This is the first position we will be upgrading when the finances become available.

<i>Forwards</i>

#6 Juan Luis Rodriguez
-Nationality: Spanish
-Age: 30
-Current Form: Weak (4)
-Experience: Inadequate (5)
-Assessed Value: $19,000
-Wage: $828
-Scoring: Passable (6)
-Passing: Inadequate (5)

Despite his low value, Juan just seems to find a way to put the ball in the back of the net. Last season he led the team with thirteen goals and added a hat trick. His from seems to change a lot though and he only made a limited number of appearances because of it.

#10 Bryan Young
-Nationality: Oceanian
-Age: 31
-Current Form: Weak (4)
-Experience: Weak (4)
-Assessed Value: $36,000
-Wage: $1,020
-Scoring: Passable (6)
-Passing: Passable (6)

Bryan was bought last season to try to generate an offensive central attack. After a hot start in which he put up three stars a game, he slowly fell off the table. He had three or four different injuries last season. When healthy, he scored seven goals in eight competitive matches. If we can get him in good form, I think he can return to three stars a game.

<b>Reserves</b>

<i>Goalkeeper</i>

#25 Cutberto Ferrari
-Nationality: American
-Age: 24
-Current Form: Weak (4)
-Experience: Disastrous (1)
-Assessed Value: $76,000
-Wage: 1,080
-Goaltending: Inadequate (5)

Cutberto was picked up simply to play back-up keeper. He played in some friendlies in Season 19 but really saw his time greatly diminished in Season 20. Nevertheless, he is still a valuable member of our squad. If he gets his form up he could see more action in friendlies.

<i>Defenders</i>

#4 Archie Hurman
-Nationality: English
-Age: 19
-Current Form: Passable (6)
-Experience: Disastrous (1)
-Assessed Value: $55,000
-Wage: $924
-Defending: Passable (6)
-Passing: Inadequate (5)

Archie is a week away from popping to solid defending, at which that time he will be sold. He is too old for long term training and could bring in some nice cash with his inadequate passing, as teams will be looking to pick up a quality defender for the counter attack. He has appeared five competitive matches for the team.

#15 Brandon Marcum
-Nationality: American
-Age: 18
-Current Form: passable (6)
-Experience: Disastrous (1)
-Assessed Value: $61,000
-Wage: $790
-Winger: Inadequate (5)
-Defending: Passable (6)
-Passing: Inadequate (5)

Brandon was purchased in Season 20 for $19,000. He is about two or three weeks away from popping to solid. He has had an injury or two or perhaps would be solid by now. He seems to have high base form which has earned him six appearances for the club.

#19 Song Tae-hyun
-Nationality: Hong Kong
-Age: 17
-Current Form: Passable (6)
-Experience: Disastrous (1)
-Assessed Value: $27,000
-Wage: $744
-Winger: Inadequate (5)
-Defending: Inadequate (5)

Song was purchased for $12,000 yesterday in hopes that he will be called up to the U-20 Hong Kong squad. It is difficult to know how close he is to popping to passable defending because of the inadequate ratings (he also has inadequate scoring). Either way, it should be a worthy investment.

#20 George Sinclair
-Nationality: American
-Age: 19
-Current Form: Passable (6)
-Experience: Disastrous (1)
-Assessed Value: $132,000
-Wage: $1,150
-Playmaking: Inadequate (5)
-Scoring: Passable (6)
-Defending: Passable (6)

I am not really sure what to do with a player like George. He has nice secondaries with boost his value up. He has around two weeks left before popping to solid. He was pulled from our youth squad. He will not be involved with the club long term but may stick around this season.

#22 Zhang Jin-Tong
-Nationality: Chinese
-Age: 17
-Current Form: Passable (6)
-Experience: Disastrous (1)
-Assessed Value: $20,000
-Wage: $696
-Defending: Inadequate (5)
-Passing: Inadequate (5)
-Specialty: Head

Zhang was another purchase who could have a legit shot at the U-20 Chinese squad. The current U20 coach for China does not seem to think so, but I think he is over-estimating his country to produce youth players. In the first week, only one passable defender was produced. The country only has 70 active owners and no telling how many make youth pulls every week. I am not ready to give up quite yet.

#24 John Vera
-Nationality: American
-Age: 18
-Current Form: Passable (6)
-Experience: Disastrous (1)
-Assessed Value: $37,000
-Wage: $670
-Playmaking: Inadequate (5)
-Defending: Passable (6)
-Set Pieces: Formidable (9)

John is our set piece ace for the future. He should be another week to popping to outstanding in that area. I guesstimate he is about six weeks from popping to solid so he is a bit more of a project. He was pulled from our youth squad.

Yi Kai-Hung
-Nationality: American
-Age: 19
-Current Form: Solid (7)
-Experience: Disastrous (1)
-Assessed Value: $84,000
-Wage: $900
-Playmaking: Inadequate (5)
-Winger: Passable (6)
-Defending: Passable (6)

Yi was pulled from our youth squad in the latter part of Season 20. I plan on training him up to solid and then selling him. I had a player who had the same exact ratings (Stefan Silverman) who sold today for $157,000. If I can get the same for Yi that will go along way. I am not sure how long Yi is away from popping.

<i>Inner Midfielders</i>

#8 Hans Karrland
-Nationality: Swedish
-Age: 31
-Current Form: Passable (6)
-Experience: Poor (3)
-Assessed Value: $64,000
-Wage: $1,224
-Playmaking: Passable (6)
-Passing: Passable (6)

Hans is another one of the early purchases of the Golden Eagles FC. He was a starter for long time but was replaced. He can put up three stars and makes a good reserve midfielder when called on.

#13 Leonardo Chu
-Nationality: American
-Age: 26
-Current Form: Inadequate (5)
-Experience: Inadequate (5)
-Assessed Value: $75,000
-Wage: $1,070
-Stamina: Passable (6)
-Playmaking: Passable (6)
-Defending: Inadequate (5)

Leonardo is an original Golden Eagle, one of the few remaining. He plays the role of defensive midfielder very well, putting up three stars on a usual basis. He is a valuable back-up and B-Team player and will probably be the squad for a long time.

<i>Wingers</i>

#12 Gabriel Fernandez-Cuesta
-Nationality: American
-Age: 27
-Current Form: Passable (6)
-Experience: Poor (3)
-Assessed Value: $47,000
-Wage: $850
-Winger: Passable (6)
-Defending: Inadequate (5)
- Passing: Passable (6)

Gabriel served as the captain of the Golden Eagles for the first season and is an original member of the squad. Despite his seemingly decent stats that really does not translate to success on the pitch. Hence, he has been relegated to B-Team duty and might be sold soon.

#18 Tyrone Pineda
-Nationality: American
-Age: 27
-Current Form: Inadequate (5)
-Experience: Wretched (2)
-Assessed Value: $42,000
-Wage: $820
-Winger: Passable (6)
- Defending: Inadequate (5)

Tyrone was an original member of the Golden Eagles FC as well. He has served in the starting winger capacity earlier in his career but has now, as one can imagine has been relegated to B-Team duty. He will probably stick around with the club for awhile.

<i>Forwards</i>

#9 Dean Lander
-Nationality: Welsh
-Age: 22
-Current Form: Inadequate (5)
-Experience: Wretched (2)
-Assessed Value: $85,000
-Wage: $1,236
-Scoring: Passable (6)
-Passing: Inadequate (5)

Dean will start the most of any reserve. He will alternate in with the other two starting forwards depending on form. In fact, Dean will start the Cup Match on Wednesday. He has scored twelve goals for the club.

From the looks of it you should have a pretty good shot at winning your series this season, and autopromoting. DR FC and DF FC look to be your only competition but I would think you can win atleast 3 of those games.

Hopefully Song Tae-hyun will be on the Hong Kong U-20 squad along with Loong Hsuan-Chung in a few seasons.

Good luck this season...hopefully you can promote to IV.5!

<i>Match Report</i>

Pre Game

3922 spectators had come to Hmong Knights Arena this cloudy day.

Knights had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. They fielded: Cacheiro - Guy, Lofton, Stout, Cho - Harris, Anido, Stratton, Marquez - Bryan, Burger.

Golden had chosen a strategic 5-4-1 formation. The following players had been chosen: Schultz - Jin-Tong, Larragoiti, Hurman, Kai-Hung, Tae-hyun - Bosma, Jansson, Thinggaard, Bengtsson - Lander.

First Half

Beau Bosma came close to putting the visiting team one up in the 18:th minute, following a solo raid down the middle, but Gustavo Cacheiro managed to tip the ball to a corner.

Goldens Roger Bengtsson got himself booked after a foul. Golden took the lead in the games 26:th minute with 0 - 1 after some elegant plays down the middle. Roger Bengtsson was the scorer.

After 31 minutes Goldens Song Tae-hyun had to be carried off on a stretcher in agony. Brandon Marcum came in instead of him.

Roland Guy behaved like an inexperienced youth player in the 34:th minute as he gave the ball away to an opponent. Lucky for him though, there was no goal.

José Luis Larragoiti came close to extending the visitors lead as he, completely unmarked in front of the goal, lifted a ball over Gustavo Cacheiro, hitting the bar.

0 - 1 was the half-time score. The fortyfive minutes were dominated by Golden, with an impressive 75 percent possession of the ball.

Second Half

Golden came close to extending their lead as Per Jansson delivered a long range shot from the right but the angle was too sharp, and the shot hit the side of the goal.

Some fine manouvering on the left lead to an 62nd minute Golden goal, making it 0 - 2. Per Jansson was noted down as the scorer.

Golden´s Jochen Schultz refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon in the 66:th minute.

After 67 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for Zhang Jin-Tong who increased Golden´s lead to 0 - 3.

Golden came close to extending their lead as Beau Bosma delivered a long range shot from the right but the angle was too sharp, and the shot hit the side of the goal.

Beau Bosma was, after 68 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors lead with a well placed diving header but home side keeper Gustavo Cacheiro saved.

Golden, bringing the final ball possession rate to 87 percent, dominated the battle.

Post Game

The most dominating Knights player was without a doubt Cris Lofton. Steve Bryan was a disappointment, however.

The most dominating Golden player was without a doubt Kai Thinggaard. Zhang Jin-Tong was a disappointment, however.

The match ends 0 - 3.

<i>Comments:</i> We survive the first round of the cup with a 3-0 victory over the Hmong Knights. We played the 5-4-1 to maximize our defensive training. I believe this is the first time ever the Golden Eagles have had three four star players. We would have had another if Bergtsson would have played his normal midfield position. We of course PICed the match. Tae-Hyun was injured for five weeks, effectively ending his hope of getting a Hong Kong U-20 spot. We will probably just eat the $12k we spent on him and fire the player. The training spot can be used elsewhere.

Tae-Hyun : Hire maximum doctors, he will be able to come back in 2 weeks instead of five !

Doug5984

I am going to have to disagree with Alf, hiring max doctors for 3 weeks will cost around $45k, the player was bought for only $12k. It just doesn't seem like a good idea to invest that much money into an inad. player. I think your better option is either A) hold onto him with very few doctors, and buy a new possible U-20 trainiee. or B) Fire him and buy a new possible U-20 trainiee.

<b>Week 1 Training Results</b>

We did not have any players pop this week - and that is a bit surprising for me. I least expected Archie Hurman to pop to solid but no dice. It would have also been nice to have seen Yi Kai-Hung pop, but again we did not see it. The form was so-so. The only real loss we has was Roger Bergstton falling to inadequate form and our two starting strikers remaining in weak form, meaning Dean Lander and George Sinclair will start at forwards. The starters’ form was a +2.

<b>Preview of Sunday Match</b>

We are facing our arch-nemesis Deutsch Fire FC in this week’s league match-up. Loyal readers probably remember this team robbed us in the first game of the season last year. That can not happen again this year. We have to get out on the right foot. I suspect we will, since we are a different team from last year. We will probably put up +5 levels on him in midfield. His attack is good, but our defense is better. Our attack also should be good enough to generate goals. I expect a victory, but it will be close. We beat him the last game of the season, 4-1. Hopefully we will have similar results.

<i>Match Report</i>

Pre Game

16110 spectators had come to Golden Eagles FC Arena this cloudy day.

Golden tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Schultz - Higgins, Larragoiti, Ukenings - Bosma, Bengtsson, Jansson, Thinggaard, Dogaru - Lander, Sinclair.

Deutsch started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. Lineup: Felix - Fredriksson, Hobson, Langohr - Puigcerber, Alexandersson, van de Sande, Abolafio Martíne, Fritz - Reagan, Bailey.

First Half

A questionable penalty in the 5:th minute gave the home side the lead 1 - 0. The visitors goaltender didn´t stand a chance as Dean Lander knocked the ball home.

After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Golden´s José Luis Larragoiti got himself booked.

A well placed corner kick from Dean Lander was followed by Dan Higgins´s hard but accurate header. The nice combination meant goal for Golden. The result now 2-0.

With 30 minutes played Dean Lander could have brought this one home for Golden, had his hooked ball gone in, but it went just a bit too high.

Golden appeared unsure on how to play. A great save by goaltender Nathaniel Felix in the 42nd minute kept the visitors in the game as Per Jansson struck from the left with a real cannonball.

42 minutes into the game Dan Higgins had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came Brandon Marcum.

The teams went for a half-time break at 2 - 0. Golden, bringing the final ball possession rate to 64 percent, dominated the battle.

Second Half

During the break Golden´s coach went through the teams new tactics yet again. Golden appeared unsure on how to play.

Per Jansson of Golden received a yellow card in the 86:th minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour.

In the 86:th minute of the match the visitors central line of defence had to look on as Brandon Marcum dashed through, knocking home 3 - 0 for Golden.

The structure of the game started to change as Golden decided to pull back and meet their opponents in the defensive zone.

In the 87:th minute Goldens Beau Bosma received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.

Golden had obvious problems in finding their positions.

Golden held the ball, with a clear 69 percent possession rate.

Post Game

Most important Golden player was José Luis Larragoiti. Dean Lander on the other hand, had a terrible day.

Most important Deutsch player was Nick Hobson. Eduardt Langohr on the other hand, had a terrible day.

The match ends 3 - 0.

Can I get a w00t w00t?? Forget about the early season let down this time around. We win and win big. We silenced the best attack in V.167. We get goals from all over the place. I was disappointed in the midfield not putting up at least a solid, but we are not in the best of form. This was also with our best two strikers not playing due to form. The sky can be the limit this season. The injury to Higgins is not major, just a week. We play a bot team in the league next. Should be an easy win.

<i>Match Report</i>

Pre Game

Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and New Orleans Field saw a crowd turnout of 7000.

Gladiators tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Benitez - Porter, Pack, Mercer, Palma - Wheeler, Clemons, Williams, Hicks - Burns, Sexton.

Golden had chosen a strategic 5-4-1 formation. Lineup: Schultz - Sinclair, Hurman, Kai-Hung, Jin-Tong, Vera - Bosma, Jansson, Thinggaard, Bengtsson - Young.

First Half

Golden had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially in the 1st minute when Yi Kai-Hung came up alone against Gerard Benitez who managed a block.

Golden had a good opportunity to score the lead goal but the home team goaltender Gerard Benitez saved Yi Kai-Hung´s shot headed for the top corner.

10 minutes into the game George Sinclair had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came Hans Kärrlind.

After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Golden´s John Vera got himself booked. Golden took the lead after 27 minutes with 0 - 1. Bryan Young placed the ball out of reach for the home sides keeper after a fine move, coming in from the left. G

olden made a substitution in the 28:th minute. Yi Kai-Hung limped off the field and was replaced by Tyrone Pineda.

The teams went for a half-time break at 0 - 1. Golden held the ball, with a clear 74 percent possession rate.

Second Half

A well placed corner kick from John Vera was followed by Zhang Jin-Tong´s hard but accurate header. The nice combination meant goal for Golden. The result now 0-2.

In the games 55:th minute Tyrone Pineda nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through and fired from just outside the box, his shot passed just over the bar.

In the 56:th minute Gladiatorss Germán Palma received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.

60 minutes into the game Trent Sexton had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came Aitor Martínez.

Tyrone Pineda was, after 61 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors lead with a well placed diving header but home side keeper Gerard Benitez saved.

Tyrone Pineda increased the visitors lead by putting a volley shot away on a pass from the right. 0 - 3.

Archie Hurman of Golden received a yellow card in the 75:th minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour.

After 76 minutes Gladiators´s Erwin Clemons contracted a slight foot injury, but could finish the game.

A corner kick created great disorder in the penalty area, but at last Golden´s Beau Bosma was able to shove the ball in. 0-4.

The structure of the game started to change as Golden decided to pull back and meet their opponents in the defensive zone.

Golden´s Tyrone Pineda received a play slashing through the home side´s defense in the 87:th minute, chipping it past the keeper scoring 0 - 5. The home crowd was not pleased with that one.

Golden held the ball, with a clear 81 percent possession rate.

Post Game

The most dominating Gladiators player was without a doubt Nick Wheeler.
Carlos Mercer was a disappointment, however.

The most dominating Golden player was without a doubt Kai Thinggaard. Tyrone Pineda was a disappointment, however.

Another easy win over a bot team in which we PICed. I am getting a bit concerned about the injuries I am seeing. Sinclair will be out and miss a week of training. Kai-Hung will not but there is still some legit concern. We are training at 100% but have 10 physiotherapists. Up next, we will play The Fish, human owned team who will pose a challenge. We get to host the match and the $70k that comes along with it.

<b>Preview of Sunday Match</b>

In the league match on Sunday, we will meet Zürzavar Fc, a team new to V.167. They replaced the Florida Apaches. The owner appears to be active (which is a good thing) and has already made several purchases, totaling $294,000. None of the players, however, stick out as super stars. That being said, we should cruise to a relatively easy win despite our poor form. Since I face a decent cup opponent in Round 3, I have decided to make a bit of a change this week. I will run the 5-4-1 on Sunday and the 3-5-2 on Wednesday. The reason being is, I would like to win the Cup match so that I can get the extra $70k. Who knows, I may also be able to win in Round 4. It will be a bit different of a line-up, with more of a ‘spread’ offense.

Today the Golden Eagles FC face an opponent new to the cause of V.167 in Zurzavar FC. I am guessing the name is Russian, although I can not tell you for sure. We will be PICing the match as one could imagine. We expect a fairly easy win for the club and have decided to run the 5-4-1. Our tactics are pretty simple and really do not require an in depth explanation. We will attack on the wings. The match is also a farewell match for Archie Hurman as he will be sold after the match.

<i>Match Report</i>

Pre Game
A scorching day at Zürzavar Fc Arena, where 3362 spectators were in place for today´s match.

Zürzavar tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. Lineup: Bonds - Gösgens, Busby, Phillips - Johnson, Hormigos, Härkäpää, Martínez, Hargrove - Tijanic, Wyman.

Golden started off with a 5-4-1 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Schultz - Ukenings, Vera, Kai-Hung, Jin-Tong, Hurman - Bosma, Jansson, Thinggaard, Bengtsson - Lander.

First Half

It was obvious that Zürzavar were using pressing as their primary tactic.

It was an obvious ambition of Golden to attack on the flanks.

Zürzavar's poor ability to press their opponents all over the field paid off frequently.

Zürzavar took the lead by 1 - 0 after a penalty in the 21st minute. Mitch Wyman scored from the penalty spot.

Zürzavar had obvious problems in finding their positions.

A really bad tackle inside the penalty area in the 29:th minute gave the referee no other choice but to award visiting Golden the penalty shot. John Vera knocked home 1 - 1.

A mistake by the home sides central defence in the 30:th minute allowed Zhang Jin-Tong to score 1 - 2 for Golden.

32 minutes into the game Jochen Schultz had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came Cutberto Ferrari.

The away team´s Kai Thinggaard took advantage of a mistake to the home side´s right in the 33rd minute increasing Golden´s lead to 1 - 3.

Halftime score was 1 - 3. Golden held the ball, with a clear 68 percent possession rate.

Second Half

Zürzavar -coach had an extra briefing during the break, and after that his players looked a lot more organized. Golden had, after 51 minutes of the game, worked the left side industriously, creating several opportunities to add to their lead, but somehow didn´t achieve closure.

Golden increased the lead to 1 - 4 as John Vera scored from the penalty spot, putting the ball in near the top left corner.

The visitors John Vera took advantage of an error due to a misunderstanding between the home side´s goalie and full backs in the 76:th minute. 1 - 5 for Golden. By then John Vera was a three time scorer - a hat trick!

After 79 minutes Zürzavars Mitch Wyman had to be carried off on a stretcher in agony. Kent Cheek came in instead of him.

Golden held the ball, with a clear 79 percent possession rate.

Post Game

The most dominating Zürzavar player was without a doubt Charles Phillips. Niilo Härkäpää on the other hand, had a terrible day.

Golden´s best player was Kai Thinggaard. However, Cutberto Ferrari made a disastrous appearance.

The match ends 1 - 5.

After a bit of a rocky start, we go on to win the match rather comfortably by a four goal margin. Zurzavar FC put up some pretty good ratings for a new team. I think the owner can be a bit tricky and that is something to watch in the latter part of the season. Jochen Schultz will miss two weeks with an injury. I have decided to go ahead and upgrade to an excellent keeper. John Vera is a player I am really starting to like, as he simply creates chances.

Dang . . . with 2 header specialists, Bosma should be having a field day with winger events. Too bad Vera isn't ready for prime time yet. He'd go crazy with those wingbacks, too.

Don't know what Silverman's playmaking was but Kai-Hung's playmaking skill should help the price when you finally sell him, too. That'll be a good sell. :)

Congrats on the good start to the season. :)

Daed: We actually have another head specialist in Zhang Jin-Tong. Bea Bosma himself is a head specialist, nut it may be hard for him to knock the ball to himself. Vera will hopefully be an excellent defender by the end of the season, although that may be a bit wishful thinking. Silverman the same exact stats as Hung, so it should be around the same sell. Thank you much for the kid words concerning the start of the season.

Before the match, the Golden Eagles FC added a new player in the form of solid goaltender Vaino Virve. He is a valued at $301,000 which means he is a low solid. Unfortunately, I temporarily went crazy and paid $306,000 for him. I am slapping myself silly for that rookie mistake. What was I thinking? I will resale him after the end of the season for probably around $200,000. I guess it is essentially a $100,000 ‘rental’ fee. He is 19 years old. Still, that was not a very smart thing to do. Today’s cup match is against The Fish, an average Division V team.

Well, we got an easy win and at the same time Played it Cool to boast team spirit. Unfortunately, it really does not cheer me up much. I am still mad at myself for buying that keeper. Argh!! We play VagaBond next, a team that is in first place in their IV division. We still can beat them though, especially if we do not PIC. We will host the match and I think we will play for the win.

<b>Golden Eagles Announce Coaching Change</b>

The Golden Eagles FC made a major announcement on Thanksgiving day. The general manager Tim Brice made the statement around lunch time. “First of all I would like to thank Howie MccLelland for his two years of service at the club. However, there comes a time when all teams must make a change if they are wanting to move up in the Hattrick world. For this reason, we have decided to bring in Todd Omalley to be the new coach, effective immediately. We are looking forward to having Todd as our new coach.

Omalley, 51, is considered to be a solid coach, however rumors are that he is a poor leader. He has passable experience and is considered to be pleasant guy. “I like to attack when I am coaching,” Omalley said. “You will hardly ever see me pull back, we will run it up on opponents.” The biggest difference, however, is expected to be seen in the training program. The club expects to see immediate improvement in the club’s defenders. Exact financial terms of the deal were not released, but it is expected the club paid around $280,000.

<b>Golden Eagles FC coach has change of heart</b>

Todd Omalley was recently hired as the head coach for the Golden Eagles FC, however, after what he identified as a “calling” he resigned from the leadership role. Omalley said it was the will of the world from him to become a pawn shop owner. He has now opened up a new shop close to the Golden Eagles FC Arena. It is reported that he is very happy in the role. Omalley, being the nice guy he is, also reimbursed the club all they money that he had spent to make him a solid coach.

The Golden Eagles were left scrambling for a new coach and they found one in Estonian Denis Ruuda. Ruuda is 55, fours years older than Omalley. Ruuda is very similar to Omalley in the fact that he is a solid coach and has poor leadership. He is also fond of the attack. Ruuda will make his coaching debate on Sunday against the Dead Rabbits FC.

<b>Week Three Training Results</b>

In an odd Hattrick bug, the original training results which we got were altered as the HT universe had to be turned back to re-do all previous events (and hence, why we lost our coach). This training session was actually done under previous coach Howie McLelland. We did have one player pop.

Brandon will continued to be trained under the Golden Eagles FC for quite some time. I like his winger and passing skills which are beneficial to the counter attack. We may also do some winger training on the rare occasion which would help even more.

Today we face the toughest challenge we will see in the league all year long. Dead Rabbits FC can attack from all over and have a strong enough to defense to usually not give up many goals. Last season we tied once with the Dead Rabbits FC and lost to them once. It will certainly be a challenge for the franchise. Keep in mind this the debut of new heaD coach Denis Ruuda. Both owners before hand agreed to a Double PIC so team spirit can be high for cup matches.

<i>Comments</i>
We soundly defeated the Dead Rabbits FC in all phases of the game. Our defense did not give up a shot and our offense was very productive. We could have put more than four on the board, but missed chances and drawing back in the 11th minute did not lead to goals. How about the play of youth pull Rory Bellamy? He has some skills. My offensive ratings increased but my defensive ratings went way down. I guess it is due to the new coach. Anyway, we will take the win.

<i>Match Report</i>

Pre Game

Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and Golden Eagles FC Arena saw a crowd turnout of 16110.

Golden tactics involved an interesting 5-4-1 combination. The following players had been chosen: Virve - Sinclair, Ukenings, Vera, Jin-Tong, Kai-Hung - Bellamy, Bengtsson, Thinggaard, Bosma - Young.

VagaBond started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. Lineup: Bronson - Noel, Greco, Sherman - Reiter, Johnson, Stallings, Paris, Jordon - Wright, Eerola.

First Half

Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Golden, and they seem solid at it.

After 13 minutes VagaBonds Carmine Johnson made his way through the middle, putting the visitors up 0 - 1.

The visitors Brandon Greco took advantage of an error due to a misunderstanding between the home side´s goalie and full backs in the 32nd minute. 0 - 2 for VagaBond.

The visitors Stanton Wright took advantage of an error due to a misunderstanding between the home side´s goalie and full backs in the 41st minute. 0 - 3 for VagaBond.

The structure of the game started to change as VagaBond decided to pull back and meet their opponents in the defensive zone.

After the ball got lifted in from the left Brandon Greco was on his own in the home side´s penalty area 42 minutes into the game, and should have scored, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration.

The teams went for a half-time break at 0 - 3.

The fortyfive minutes were dominated by VagaBond, with an impressive 65 percent possession of the ball.

Second Half

The visitors Janne Eerola took advantage of an error due to a misunderstanding between the home side´s goalie and full backs in the 46:th minute. 0 - 4 for VagaBond.

Stanton Wright was, after 54 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors lead with a well placed diving header but home side keeper Vaino Virve saved.

A well placed corner kick from Roy Sherman was followed by Brandon Jordon´s hard but accurate header. The nice combination meant goal for VagaBond. The result now 0-5.

With clinical precision the cross pass from winger Rory Bellamy found it's way to Beau Bosma's head, and a screaming header gave Golden 1 - 5.

In the 69:th minute the visitors put themselves ahead 1 - 6 as Stanton Wright finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick.

VagaBond held the ball, with a clear 65 percent possession rate.

Post Game

Most important Golden player was Kai Thinggaard. Daniel Ukenings on the other hand, had a terrible day.

The most dominating VagaBond player was without a doubt Nick Stallings. Brandon Jordon on the other hand, had a terrible day.

Ouch. I guess I should be honored that VagaBond showed me respect and did not PIC against me. His result was a 6-1 thumping. I am not impressed with the counter attack at all. I guess I do not have the passing to pull it off. We take our beating with a grain of salt. Hopefully we will do better in the cup next year.

<b>Week 4 Training Results</b>

We had two players pop this week. Larragoitti was expected, but Sinclair was not. I originally stated that Larragoitti would be sold when he reached formidable, but I have now retracted that statement. We will train him up to outstanding, then make the sale.

The reason being is I can probably win my series pretty easily without a significant upgrade. So my plan is to keep until he reaches outstaning, then get the extra $800k to invest in the squad when we prepare for Division IV.I am not sure what to do with Sinclair. I may sell him and go after a younger trainee.

I am changing up the training update a bit. It will now reflect more of everyone’s favorite dynasty writer - DataKing. I think it will be a welcome change and give you a better understanding of the Golden Eagles FC. That is, at least, my goal.

<i>Form Changes</i>

Six players saw an increase in form this week:
-Defender John Vera -> solid (7)
-Forward Dean Lander -> passable (6)
-Winger Grigore Dogaru -> passable (6)
-Defender George Sinclair -> inadequate (5)
-Midfielder Roger Bengstton -> inadequate (5)

Six players saw a decrease in form
-Defender Dan Higgins -> solid (7)

-Defender Yi Kai-Hung -> passable (6)
-Defender Song Tae-hyun -> inadequate (5)
-Winger Gabriel Fernandez-Cuesta -> Weak (4)
-Forward Bryan Young -> weak (4)

Pretty much a was with six players gaining from and six losing. I am glad to see Roger Bensgtsson finally come out of his poor form and that should help our midfield. John Vera will earn a start in the Sunday league match due to his good form. Bryan Young can not break the chains of poor form which is a real shame.

<i>Feelin’ It</i>

Dan Higgins got left behind when Team´s Jeff Kellogg made a sudden pull forward in the 56:th minute, finishing off with a swift strike. 1-2!

Roger Bengtsson increased the visitors lead by putting a volley shot away on a pass from the right. 1 - 3.

Mark Clark of Team received a yellow card in the 83rd minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour.

After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Golden´s Brandon Marcum got himself booked.

The referee signalled a penalty in the 83rd minute following an offence just inside of the box. John Vera knocked home 1 - 4 just out of reach for the goaltender.

Golden had obvious problems in finding their positions.

The referee showed Teams Ward Christie the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.

Dean Lander increased the visitors lead by putting a volley shot away on a pass from the right. 1 - 6.

Golden held the ball, with a clear 74 percent possession rate.

I guess a 6-1 win is acceptable. Although this game was a game we should have won by a lot more. Most of the goal output did not even come to the late second half. Vera did not light it up like he was suppose to, but we cant expect a hat trick every game I guess. We only put up an inadequate midfield which is disappointing. Sure we were on the road and PICing but I expected higher.

I do want to mention the play of Dan Higgins. Dan is a low to mid solid defender in solid form and turned in a 3.5 star performance. That is not bad for the young 18 year old and is the best game of his young career so far. Here is to many more 3.5 star performances.

In all fairness, the format that I use has been (partially) leeched from other dynasty writers and cobbled together. Just don't ask this old man to remember where he stole a lot of his formatting from. ;)

I think you've made the right move holding onto Larragoitti. He should bring in "metric ass-loads of cash" when he reaches outstanding.

<b>Season 21 - Friendly Match</b>

Golden Eagles FC vs. Houston Hippopotami

<i>Date: December 11th, 2003</i>
<i>Venue: Golden Eagles FC Arena</i>
<i>Attendance: 1,447</I>
<i>Weather: Partly Cloudy</i>

Today, the Houston Hippopotami take about the 10 hour bus drive north to suburbs of Memphis for a friendly match. The Hippopotami, for those of you unaware, are owned by FOFC’s own Sterlingice. It should be a fun and challenging match, as they will come gunning with the 3-5-2.

We will use the match as a tune up for the FOFC Cup play, which we should have a legit shot at advancing from our group. Our B-Team is not in very good form as the majority of them have not played since Season 20. Hopefully, after the next couple of friendlies, they will see an increase in form heading into the FOFC Cup.

We will run the 5-4-1 today with no fancy tactical decisions. Daniel Ukenings will highlight the list of starters for the fans. Daniel is close to an excellent defender, but he is in weak form and that has kept him out of the starting line-up. Other faces the fans should recognize are Hans Karrland and Leonardo Chu, both who have played roles for the club before. A new face is Song Tae-hyun, who if you remember was injured earlier in the year. He returns to the line-up in a defensive role.

<i>Formation: 5-4-1</i>

<i>Match Report</i>

Pre Game

Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and Golden Eagles FC Arena saw a crowd turnout of 1447.

Golden had chosen a strategic 5-4-1 formation. Lineup: Schultz - Sinclair, Ukenings, Kai-Hung, Tae-hyun, Jin-Tong - Dogaru, Kärrlind, Chu, Pineda - Young.

Hippopotami tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Sánchez - Sánchez, Miquel, Schrader - Starks, Tryggvesson, Wellens, Little, Teepen - Tizón, Phelan.

First Half

It was an obvious ambition of Hippopotami to attack on the flanks.

Golden made a bid to take the lead as a ball coming in from the right hand side left Bryan Young completely alone with keeper Ignacio Sánchez, who made a spectacular block.

After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Hippopotami´s Juan Miguel Tizón got himself booked.

Golden made a bid to take the lead as a ball coming in from the right hand side left Yi Kai-Hung completely alone with keeper Ignacio Sánchez, who made a spectacular block.

Thomas Little had a good try in the 38:th minute, coming in on a fine move from the left, but the ball went wide.

After the game, the most discussed event will be the penalty in the 40:th minute giving the visitors the lead with 0 - 1. Koos Teepen struck home the penalty, as cool as anything.

In the to 42nd minute a very unfortunate collision in the home teams penalty area led to Hippopotami´s Arcadio Sánchez being carried off the pitch and replaced by Elmer Bush.

The teams went for a half-time break at 0 - 1. The fortyfive minutes were dominated by Hippopotami, with an impressive 59 percent possession of the ball.

Second Half

The incalculable Hans Kärrlind of Golden did everything right as he set up Grigore Dogaru for a goal in the 54:th minute. Unfortunately, the strike missed it´s target.

After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Golden´s Song Tae-hyun got himself booked.

Daniel Ukenings was just a finger´s breadth away from an equaliser for Golden, but Ignacio Sánchez managed to ward the closing shot off for a corner.

After the ball got lifted in from the left Edwin Phelan was on his own in the home side´s penalty area 65 minutes into the game, and should have scored, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration.

Unsportsmanlike behaviour by Song Tae-hyun rendered him his second booking of the match, and Golden had to finish the game with a reduced squad.

Hippopotami, bringing the final ball possession rate to 61 percent, dominated the battle.

Post Game

Golden´s best player was Hans Kärrlind. Leonardo Chu was a disappointment, however.

Most important Hippopotami player was Mick Starks. Juan Miguel Tizón on the other hand, had a terrible day.

The match ends 0 - 1.

<i>Comments</i>
Our first friendly of the season did not go as well as one might have hoped for. We may have lost, but we certainly had some chances and their keeper had a very good game to keep them in the match. The match did nothing more but prove to me that we can compete in the upcoming FOFC Cup. The B-Team form will only improve and I think we will get better as the year progresses.

<b>Week 5 Training Results</b>

Another player popped this week and it is proof in the pudding that an effective defending training program can pay dividends in the long run. Ukenings is expected to be kept around the team for awhile as I don’t see a pressing need to sell him. He should be a formidable defender by the end of the season.

Forward Grigore Dogaru -> Inadequate (5)
Keeper Jochen Schultz -> Inadequate (5)
Winger Gabriel Fernandez-Cuesta -> Poor (3)
Forward Bryan Young -> Poor (3)

It was a good form week as everyone one of our starting midfielders went up a level in form. Daniel Ukenings also showed form improvement. It has been his poor form that has kept him sidelined for the last few weeks and off the A-Squad.

<i>Feelin’ It</i>

Beau Bosma is again featured here this week. He remained in excellent form for another week and has shown that he will stay here on a consistent basis. This is about his fith straight week in excellent form, according to HAM. In addition, Thinggaard and Higgins are in excellent form as well.

<i>Strugglin’</i>

Bryan Young dropped again in form this week and has never lived up to the promise that was expected when he was brought into the club. Young has been hampered by injuries and bad form. When in healthy and in good form, he has shown flashes of brilliance.

<i>Youth Pull</i>

Last week’s youth pull, Macedonia Felix failed to sale and was released from our club. We wish him the best of luck in any future jobs he may have. That does not mean we did not make any sales though. We sold our recently popped defender, George Sinclair, for a whopping $225,000 to a second division Uruguayan side. We also sold reserve goalkeeper Cutberto Ferrari for $5,000.

<i>Preview of Sunday Match</i>

Golden Eagles FC vs. cosinators

<i>Date:</i> December 15th, 2003
<i>Venue:</i> Golden Eagles FC Arena
<i>Attendance:</i> 16,110
<i>Weather:</i> Sunday

Today we face off against the cosinators, a team who will drive down from Pennsylvania to face us. I am judging by their name that they are good in math. Ah, I got nothing. They are the worst that V.167 has to offer this year, and well not to be cocky, but hey we are still undefeated. Once again, I got nothing. I think I have mentioned it before, but we are no longer PICing due to our coaches poor leadership abilities.

Our midfield is, for the first time this season, in acceptable form. The defense is a bit weak on the from side, and you will see Dan Higgins and John Vera in the back today, along with the always solid as a rock Jose Luis Larragoiti. We are making a bit of a change up front, as Grigore Dogaru will be starting. Grigore was brought in to originally play striker, but we decided instead to use him on the wing all of last year. However, when Rory Bellamy was pulled, Dogaru could be used up top and that is where he will play today.

I am impressed with the 8-1 victory. I know, consider the competition. Still, the team is showing the ability to win and win big. For that reason, I think we will continue to rise and be a better team. Last year, we had lapses where we didn't play well and lost to teams we should not have lost to. This year, it is a complete 360 degree turn and I hope it continues to be that way.

John Vera has earned a starting spot. He is not in the top three of our team in the defender rating, but he creates plays because he has intangibles in his favor. Plus, I think he has a legit shot at the scoring title and I will take all the money I can get.

(I did not put the players season amounts goals on this update because hattrick was extremely slow at the time of this update)

Golden Eagles FC vs. Bad Boys FF

<i>Date: December 18th, 2003</i>
<i>Venue: Golden Eagles FC Arena</i>
<i>Attendance: 1,917</I>
<i>Weather: Partly Cloudy</i>

The Bad Boys FF club visits us today from the remote regions of Sweden. They are currently in the Sixth Division of the massive Swedish league. They will in all likely run a 4-4-2 and I expect it to be a pretty good match-up. Interestingly enough, Roger Bengtsson’s younger brother, Jerry is on Bad Boys FF. Although Roger is not in the line-up today, I am sure he is thrilled to see his brother. The Bengtsson’s are a Swedish family who like giving their children American first names apparently.

We will again run the 5-4-1 with none of the tactics that we could choose from. My idea is simplicity. I really do not like the idea of all the new tactics, because too many things could go wrong. However, that is just my idea. On to the match.

<i>Match Report</i>

Pre Game

Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and Golden Eagles FC Arena saw a crowd turnout of 1917.

Golden had chosen a strategic 5-4-1 formation. Lineup: Virve - Ukenings, Marcum, Kai-Hung, Jin-Tong, Tae-hyun - Fernández-Cuesta, Kärrlind, Chu, Dogaru - Young.

Badboys started off with a 4-4-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Karlsson - Jonasson, Pettersson, Yngvesson, Bengtsson - Falkenblom, Pihlbratt, Gröönér, Gröönman - Wibeck, Nederland.

First Half

Golden tried to break through in the middle repeatedly, but kept getting stuck on the visitors defenders.

Peter Gröönér gave the visitors the lead in the 31st minute with 0 - 1. The goal was scored from the penalty spot after a handball call in the penalty area.

Golden will have to do without Leonardo Chu for a time due to a bad foot injury. He was substituted by Per Jansson.

A header from Hans Kärrlind connected with a corner kick after 39 minutes, and the ball ended up with Per Jansson of Golden who shot the 1-1 goal.

1 - 1 was the half-time score.

Golden, bringing the final ball possession rate to 64 percent, dominated the battle.

Second Half

In the games 52nd minute Jonas Pettersson almost gave the visitors the lead, as he clipped a spectacular scissors shot just past the bar.

Seemingly due to lack of experience, Yi Kai-Hung needlessly tripped an opponent just outside the penalty area, but the free kick that followed didn't succeed.

In the games 64:th minute Badboys´s Jerry Bengtsson fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee booked Jerry Bengtsson for taking a dive.

Golden held the ball, with a clear 79 percent possession rate.

Over Time

After the regular 90 minutes, the agony of overtime followed. Brandon Marcum wasn´t fit enough for a full game made several mistakes out of sheer tiredness.

One of them was exploited by Roland Jonasson who squeezed in 1-2. This put an end to extra time, making Badboys the winners.

Post Game

Most important Golden player was Per Jansson. Gabriel Fernández-Cuesta on the other hand, had a terrible day.

The most dominating Badboys player was without a doubt Pontus Karlsson. Adam Nederland on the other hand, had a terrible day.

The match ends 1 - 2.

<i>Comments</i>
At least we now know that Brandon Marcum needs to work on his fitness right? We should have won that game, dominating possession in both halves of play. Both they had a better attack and I guess that is the way things work out. The injury the Leonardo Chu will sideline him for six weeks. Ouch.

<b>Week 6 Training Results</b>

We did not have any players pop this week, however, I think you may can expect to see as many as three pops next week. I suspect that John Vera, Yi Kai-Hung, Zhang Jin-Tong, and perhaps even Song Tae-hyun are close to popping.

<i>Form Changes</i>

Two players saw an increase in from this week:
-Midfielder Leonardo Chu -> inadequate (5)
-Winger Tyrone Pineda -> inadequate (5)

Six players saw a decrease in form this week:
-Winger Beau Bosma -> solid (7)
-Defender Dan Higgins -> passable (6)
-Midfielder Roger Bengtsson -> inadequate (5)
-Goalkeeper Vanio Virve -> inadequate (5)
-Defender Song Tae-hyun -> weak (4)
-Winger Grigore Dogaru -> weak (4)

Form overall took a sharp turn downwards. Ever since I switched to 100% training, my team form has not been as good as it was at 95%. The way I understand it, team from is better when your training percent is higher. So far, that has not been the case here.

<i>Feelin’ It</i>

Midfielder Kai Thinggaard, straight out of Denmark, is in excellent form. Kai has always been in good form and has proven to be our midfielder leader ever since we bought him. I hope that he will continue to be successful on the pitch.

<i>Strugglin’</i>

Bryan Young again has the role this week, which is the most feared on the Golden Eagles roster. If Young could ever get out of his poor form slump, then he would be a consistent answer for us up-top.

Pascual is not the kind of youth pull that you want, but nevertheless, he will stick around on my team for a few weeks. The reason? My B-Team midfield has an injury with Chu and we really do not want to play a starter there. So Pascual will stick around and then promptly be fired.

<i>Preview of Sunday Match</i>
We play our second straight home game against the Hawkeyes of Iowa this week. The Hawkeyes are inactive in the league. I pretty much expect another creaming. I will not PIC and am going for goal differential. Does anyone know if the higher you are on the promotion chart, does sit benefit you in anyway? According to Hatstas, I am very high on that chart.

I think the higher the easier. I am not sure though. BoB, the owner of the West Fargo Stangs got into an easy DIV after crushing his DV league. He then, after having some struggles, promoted to a bitch of a DIII.

The higher the spot on the promotion table means you take over for the "worse" teams in the upper level. If you're way up there you may replace a bot team.

Golden Eagles FC vs. Hawkeyes of Iowa

<i>Date: December 22nd, 2003</i>
<i>Venue: Golden Eagles FC Arena</i>
<i>Attendance: 15,984</I>
<i>Weather: Rain</i>

Today the Hawkeyes of Iowa travel down from Des Moines for a league clash in the great division we all know as V.167. There is a little of heat heading into this match, as apparently, before the game, the radio announcer of the Golden Eagles FC got into a tussle with Hawkeyes of Iowa coach Stan Boling. Details, are sketchy at this point, but it seems the feud stemmed from Boling’s weight. Boling is a bit on the heavy side, and it was joked about on the radio. I can report that no injuries happened and the police were not called.

We are looking forward to today’s match, even if the team is in rather poor from. Gigore Dogaru will again make a start up top, but the need for a forward is a pressing matter and will need to be addressed before next year. Daniel Ukenings will start in the back, after he has returned to decent form. John Vera will also start. The midfield lines up as usual, as does the center defender Jose Luis Larragoiti.

<i>Match Report</i>

The crowd of 15984 turning up at Golden Eagles FC Arena today were greeted by some nasty showers of rain.

Golden had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Virve - Ukenings, Larragoiti, Vera - Bosma, Bengtsson, Jansson, Thinggaard, Bellamy - Lander, Dogaru.

Hawkeyes tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. They fielded: Lance - Vergara del Toro, Matos, Ventimilla, Bartolomé - Cook, Abbott, Douglas, Carlisle - Lang, Jones.

First Half

Hyman Cook of Hawkeyes received a yellow card in the 14:th minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour.

The 23rd minute saw the home team take a 1 - 0 lead after a leak in the visitors right side defense. Scorer for Golden was Grigore Dogaru.

Lauro Ventimilla of Hawkeyes received a yellow card in the 24:th minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour.

Hawkeyess Ollie Abbott got himself booked after a foul.

In the 29:th minute of the match the visitors central line of defence had to look on as Grigore Dogaru dashed through, knocking home 2 - 0 for Golden.

By now Golden were drawing the troops back in order to defend their lead.

2 - 0 was the half-time score.

The fortyfive minutes were dominated by Golden, with an impressive 87 percent possession of the ball.

Second Half

Golden put their lead ahead another goal as Grigore Dogaru struck home the 3 - 0 goal, after an attack from the left setting him up unmarked with the keeper. At that, Grigore Dogaru was noted down for a hat trick.

John Vera increased Golden´s lead to 4 - 0 from a penalty spot cannonball.

Post Game

Another 6-0 drubbing of whoever I play in the week of V.167. Next week, things will get a little tougher when I take on Penguins and Polar Bears. The next couple of games will make or break the season for them. I suspect he will match of the season me at least one time. John Vera put up three starts for the first time ever in this match. Dean Lander was also equally impressive. We increase our goal differential, which I hope matters.

Golden Eagles FC vs. Louisiana Cyclones

<i>Date: December 25th, 2003</i>
<i>Venue: Golden Eagles FC Arena</i>
<i>Attendance: 1,443</I>
<i>Weather: Sunny</I>

The Cyclones, which are owned by Doug5984, are taking a short flight up from Lafayette for the exciting match today in the Golden Eagles FC Arena. They play in IV.5, which is a tough series in IV. Currently, they are tied for fist place in that division. Interestingly enough, if the season ended today, I would promote to IV.5 The match features two teams running the 5-4-1, so it should be a very high paced and exciting match.

I fully expect get slaughtered in this match. Doug just bought an outstanding midfielder (which I have heard all about :)) and he is playing in the match today. My B-Team midfielder, Leonardo Chu, is injured and can not play. We will run 5 defenders out there and will not run any special tactics.

<i>Formation: 5-4-1</i>

<i>Starters:</i>

Goalkeeper: #1 Virve

Right Wingback: #15 Marcum
Central Defender: #17 Yi Kai-Hung
Central Defender: #22 Jin-Tong

<i>Match Report</i>

Pre Game

The 1443 spectators at Golden Eagles FC Arena were in for an afternoon of sunshine. Golden tactics involved an interesting 5-4-1 combination.

The following players had been chosen: Virve - Marcum, Higgins, Kai-Hung, Jin-Tong, Tae-hyun - Dogaru, Kärrlind, Vazquez, Pineda - Lander.

Louisiana had chosen a strategic 5-4-1 formation. They fielded: Glenn - Persson, Rusu, Knight, Jones, Gupta - Quigley, Roslind, Fogelström, Nafziger - Martínez.

First Half

Louisiana strategy involved pressing and cutting off attack angles of their opponents from all over the field.

Louisiana had a inadequate ability to press their opponents, causing the game to be a bit of a stalemate at times.

Louisiana had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially in the 20:th minute when José Luis Martínez came up alone against Vaino Virve who managed a block.

Jeffrey Quigley had a good try in the 28:th minute, coming in on a fine move from the left, but the ball went wide.

Halftime score was 0 - 0.

The fortyfive minutes were dominated by Louisiana, with an impressive 75 percent possession of the ball.

Second Half

Seemingly due to lack of experience, Mike Knight needlessly tripped an opponent just outside the penalty area, but the free kick that followed didn't succeed.

81 minutes into the game Alexandru Rusu was a hair´s breadth away from giving Louisiana the lead. A prompt block by Vaino Virve saved the home team that time.

Louisiana´s Mike Knight refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon in the 86:th minute.

Louisiana´s Alexandru Rusu could have put the guests one up in the 86:th minute, chasing a through ball but Vaino Virve was fast as a snake, grabbing the ball from under his nose.

Louisiana, bringing the final ball possession rate to 83 percent, dominated the battle.

Post Game

Golden´s best player was Brandon Marcum. Pascual Vazquez on the other hand, had a terrible day.

The most dominating Louisiana player was without a doubt Alexandru Rusu. José Luis Martínez was a disappointment, however.

The match ends 0 - 0.

I am very surprised with the very exciting 0-0 draw. I know that fans from all over the FOFC federation were on the edge of their respective seats for this one. There was chance after chance for both teams. No one broke through though. Who says the 5-4-1 can not provide offense? Whoever said that needs to watch this game. :)

<b>Week 7 Training Results</b>

Once again, we had no pops. This is very frustrating because I had two guys that I would have bet my house would have popped. Sometimes it seems like the solid coach and the training at 100% is not paying off. There is always next week, I guess…

<i>Form Changes</i>

Six players saw an increase in form this week:
-Defender Jose Luis Aragonite -> solid (7)
-Defender Zhang Jin-Tong -> solid (7)
-Midfielder Leonardo Chu -> passable (6)
-Winger Tyrone Pineda -> inadequate (5)
-Winger Fernandez-Cuesta -> weak (4)
-Forward Bryan Young -> weak (4)

Six players saw a decrease in form this week
-Winger Beau Bosma -> passable (6)
-Defender Daniel Ukenings -> weak (4)
-Midfielder Roger Bengtsson -> weak (4)
-Keeper Jochen Schultz -> weak (4)
-Keeper Vanio Virve -> weak (4)
-Forward Juan Luis Rodriguez -> poor (3)

Yuck. What an ugly, ugly form update. A grand total saw a form decrease. That decrease is not from solid to passable, it goes as low as weak. Things do not look good, form wish, heading into the big league match on Sunday. Hopefully we can pull it out despite our bad form.

<i>Feelin’ It</i>

How about Bryan Young, finally getting a form increase to inadequate. He is starting on the match on Sunday because of it. I hope he will pour on the goals. He finally broke out of the bad form chains and for that, earned the spot in this week’s Feelin’ It.

<i>Strugglin’</i>

Midfielder Roger Bengtsson had great form all last season. However, this year his form has just plain sucked He needs to improve on that form because he is the key player in our midfield. He is an excellent midfielder but his form stinks.

Raleigh is not the type of player we are looking to employ on our squad right now. While he some skill in the set piece area, that is about it. Has anyone else notice the trend of pulling a certain style of player? I always pull players with good set pieces. I wish it was defending or playmaking. I wonder if this will change.

<i>Preview of Sunday Match</i>
Sunday’s match is a highly anticipated battle between two of the top teams in V.167. The Golden Eagles FC, as we all know, are sitting pretty atop the division. The Penguins and Polar Bears have come out of no where and have formed a solid core of a team to charge up the standings and sit in second place. I am very concerned about this match. Why? My star midfielder and goalkeeper are in weak form. I am on the road and likely to be Matched of the Season. To boot, Beau Bosma is not at full strength, although will be playing. My defense is also not in the best of form. I will be lucky to put a passable midfield and he will put one up. I expect to be a close, tight game and the result could go either way.
