does anyone know when the coach training time addition actually is figured into the total training time?
for instance with a weak coach, around 3 extra weeks are added to the training time. but does that 3 weeks get added to the end of the training or is added cumlitively (?spelling?)
i ask because if i upgrade my coach from weak to solid, and my trainie is 3 weeks away from popping. will he pop the first week with the new coach or will there still be a loss of training to make up for from the weak coach?

i would assume that each week you train with a weak coach would not contribute nearly as much as a week trained by a solid coach.
hattrick does not just 'add' 3 weeks onto training because of the weak coach. It takes an extra 3 weeks because a weak coach can only train players at a fraction of what a solid coach can.
If your kid needs three weeks to pop with a weak coach he will pop quicker with solid coach, but there's no way to really tell when he will pop because we don't know the exact numbers for weak and solid coaches.

it's broken down to a percentage, atleast I think it is.
a weak coach takes 10 weeks per level for a 17 y/o in scoring.
100/10 = 10% so each week you get %10 of a level training.
a solid coach takes 7 weeks for the same player.
100/7 = 14.3 (14.28 rounded up) so each week you get %14.3 of a level
3 weeks with a weak coach is %30, whereas 3 weeks with a solid coach is between %42.7 and %42.9, he could pop in 2 weeks as that would be 28.6 but it could take 3 depending on if his sublevel is high or low.
since you trained so long with a weak coach, you won't notice a dramatic difference until he pops to the next level, bad coaches get ya coming and going.
I think training is a set percentage which explains why sometimes a player goes up faster. the longer he trains and the more levels he goes up, the more likely he is to go up quicker than expected.
solid coach gives %14.3 or .143:
very low solid scorer: 7.000
week 1: 7.143
week 2: 7.286
week 3: 7.429
week 4: 7.572
week 5: 7.715
week 6: 7.858
week 7: 8.001 (now excellent)
week 1: 8.144
week 2: 8.287
week 3: 8.430
week 4: 8.573
week 5: 8.716
week 6: 8.859
week 7: 9.002 (now formidable)
etc...
high solid scorer: 7.903
week 1: 8.046 (now excellent)
week 1: 8.189
week 2: 8.332
week 3: 8.475
week 4: 8.618
week 5: 8.761
week 6: 8.904
week 7: 9.047 (now formidable)
say you have a low solid scorer who's 17: 7.141
week 1: 7.284
week 2: 7.427
week 3: 7.570
week 4: 7.713
week 5: 7.856
week 6: 7.999
week 7: 8.142 (now excellent)
week 1: 8.285
week 2: 8.428
week 3: 8.571
week 4: 8.714
week 5: 8.857
week 6: 9.000 (now formidable)
atleast that's how I look at it. my $0.02

Panther, great minds think alike... here's how I see it...
My understanding is that it goes the way McSweeny explained it. A weak coach is less effective than an inadequate coach, who is less effective than a passable coach, and so on. In other words, with a weak coach, your players receive less than the 100% training they would get with a solid coach
If you take the common belief that every level of coaching below solid adds one week of training, I came up with this formula:
PCT = WTP / (WTP + 7 - CL)
Where
PCT is the percentage of training received in a given week
WTP is the known (or assumed) weeks necessary for a 17yo to pop with a solid coach
CL is the coache level (solid = 7, passable = 6, etc)
For example, for my playmaking training with my current passable coach, I have this
PCT = WTP / (WTP + 7 - CL)
PCT = 7 / (7 + 7 - 6)
PCT = 87.5%
Assuming the common belief that it takes 7 weeks for a 17yo to pop with a solid coach. Given this PCT value, a 17yo that has received 5 weeks of training at inner mid with my current coach is the same as 5 time 87.5% or 4.375 weeks of training with a solid coach.
Same calculation could be done for a weak coach, or for another trianing type...
Do I make sense?

PS: I had typed this all offline only to see that Panther had answered, but I couldn't keep it to myself :)

great stuff there FM, i spent about 10 minutes trying to work out the math when i was posted and just managed to give myself a headache. Thanks for clarifying all that

he, he, I had it embedded in one of my spreadsheet ;) Was just a matter of writing it down and explaining how I think it works...
The same kind of thinking can be used with the player ageing. A player that is 18 is believed to take one more week to pop than a 17yo, but if he has had 5 week of training at 17, then turns 18, he is still very close to popping, it won't necessarily take him an extra week to pop...

Some thoughts:
the 100% training they would get with a solid coach
Of course, there's the monkey wrench to throw into that called the excellent coach. :p

Not by anyone I've found to be extremely knowledgeable. I've found that 19 and even 20 year olds only take about 1 week more than 17yo's. It's probably only about 1/2 a week longer per year older than 17 up to a point (20 or 21) to where it's closer to 1 full week or more. Likely a gradual growing curve.

Nah, I see the excellent coach as one that is overproductive, say he trains at 110% or about :p Not that I expect to have enough money to offer myself one in the near future anyway :)

Yeah, that I know. But my point was more that a player that has already received 80% of the necessary training at 17, won't need all that much more training to pop, only because he just turned 18. Say he has received 6 of his 7 week of training already, then he turns 18, it won't take him 1.5 more week (taking your 1/2 week longer, which is most probably reasonable) but much closer to his usual 7 weeks...

I'll make it much simpler: think of it as experience points in an RPG. You need 70 points to "level up". Training a week under a solid coach gets your 10 points. Training a week under a weak coach only gets you 7 points. If you train under a weak coach for 5 weeks, you get 35 points. Then if you switch to a solid coach, it takes 4 more weeks to get the 35 (+5 extra) needed to level.
