Trade Rumors (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylc=X3oDMTBpcDBuM2RlBF9TAzk1ODYxNzc3BHNlYwN0aA--?slug=ap-gmmeetings&prov=ap&type=lgns)
The important bit: The Diamondbacks seemed willing to explore a deal to send Schilling to the New York Yankees while several teams were interested in Sexson.
Schilling to the Yanks? Is he going to be their new setup guy for Mariano, or does this bump Mussina to the pen, sheesh!

Unfortunately, the Diamondbacks are bleeding money all over the place, and the boneheaded "fans" in Phoenix aren't showing up for the games. This team needs to re-build before they're going to be in pennant contention again, and this trade actually makes sense - as much as I hate to see Schilling go - now might be the best time, while he's still worth something.

I don't wanna hear about it any more
It's a shame I've got to live without you any more
There's a fire in my heart
A pounding in my brain driving me crazy
We don't need to talk about it any more
Yesterday's just a memory
Can you close the door
I just made one mistake
I didn't know what to say when you called me baby
* Don't say good night(bye)
Say you're gonna stay forever
Oh, all the way
Can you take me high enough
To fly me over over yesterday
Can you take me high enough
It's never over
Yesterday's just a memory.
Yesterday's just a memory.
I don't wanna live without you any more
Can't you see I'm in a misery
And you know for sure
I would live and die for you
And I'd know just what to do when you call me baby
* repeat
Yesterday's just a memory away
I was runnin' for the door
The next thing I remember
I was runnin' from no more
* repeat twice

The Diamondbacks essentially leveraged themselves so that they could avoid dismantling the team the next year, like the Marlins did. But they've got the same issues, only not quite as bad.
I think the Yanks would likely have to eat Matt Mantei's contract to get Schiling, so he would end up as Rivera's setup man.

I'm not sure what you mean, the Yankees desperately need another starter. They will lose two of their top pitchers in Clemens & Wells, and maybe three, depending on if Pettitte re-signs or not.
That leaves a rotation of Mussina, Pettitte (maybe), Contreras, Weaver, & Lieber (who hasn't pitched in over a year). Schilling starts looking pretty good with that bunch.

It was mostly in sarcasm, because on nearly any other team in the league, having a top 3 of Mussina, Andy and Contreras would be a luxury, nevermind being able to fill out the remaining spots with Weaver and Leiber (who could potentially be at least a 3 man on nearly any other team, and possibly an ace should he come back and be able to regain his form quickly). Throw Schilling in there, and everything stays the same if they lose Andy, but if he sticks in the Apple, then they get to play musical chairs with Contreras, Weaver and Leiber, starting only the 2 hottest out of those, and being able to absorb a big injury to a starting pitcher without missing a beat.
Again, they are stacked already, and look to add one of the top 5 pitches in all of baseball (when he's healthy). I'm very curious to see what Arizona would make them give up in return, especially if they are looking to move Spivey and Mantei as well. If they do land Soriano and/or Johnson, that'd be a start, but you'd think they'd need to get at least a rotation ready pitcher in return as well.

If they give up Soriano now ... I'll fall on the floor laughing.
Anyway, it'll never happen. Soriano will not be a part of this trade.

I think Weaver will be traded to some team for prospects, or maybe bench help. Soriano is way overrated , and for a Yankee, that's saying something.

I can't wait until Parcells decides to leave and does his usual slash and burn as he leaves... :D
