Golden Scribes: The Proposed Categories for 2004

Okay, here is what I came up with based on reader input (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16157). I collapsed the FOF and non-FOF football categories into blanket "College Football" and "Professional Football" categories just to avoid having too many categories. I’m also thinking maybe we could collapse the suggested "Historical" and "Science-Fiction" dynasties into the Interactive Dynasties category, although offhand I'm not sure if all of the Historical and Science Fiction dynasties were in fact interactive. Maybe we should drop the “Other Sport” category as well, as I can't think of any sport except horse-racing that isn't covered (and I think maybe only Quik has posted a horse-racing dynasty). I also added a "Groundbreaker" category to capture who has done the most to innovate on the dynasty board during the past year.

Even though I don't post my dynasties, what about "Worst Dynasties"? Or "Nasty dyNASTY"?

Somebody actually proposed the "Worst Dynasty" idea in the linked thread above, but I rejected it because I don't want the Golden Scribes to be a negative for anyone. However, if people want to self-nominate their own dynasties for this as kind of a badge-of-honor, I would go along with that. What I don't want is for people to have an opportunity to bag on a dynasty or dynasty poster that they have some personal beef with.

What about combining the other sport and historical and sci-fi into just a "Misc. Dynasty of the Year" instead?

Personally, I would say that we have so many Hattrick dynasties that they merit their own category

Thoughts:

1) I still think that FOF, TCY, and Hattrick should all have their own categories.
2) Were there any hockey dynasties this year? I can't think of any. And unless the latest version of EHM comes out in a hurry, I don't think there will be any.

I disagree with dropping the "Other Sport" category, though I wouldn't object to broadening it to non-sports items (like, oh, poker (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6716) and car theft (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11277)).

BTW, I have done three horse racing dynasties, though none this year.

Okay, so it sounds like we should keep "Other Sports" category and ditch hockey. To show my utter ignorance, I always assumed Hattrick was a hockey game. I guess it's soccer? I never had any interest in either, so hence my total lack of knowledge in that area.

As for the TCY/FOF special categories, I will solve it the old-fashioned way. With a poll. (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16518)

Here is a revamped list. I dropped Sci-Fi because there aren't all that many-sci fi themed dynasties out there. I kept "Other Sport" because there are some racing dynasties and other miscellaneous sports dynasties out there. Also, I think we can lump any poker dynasties into "Other Sport". How does this lineup look to everyone?

What about adding an "Island of Misfits" category to cover anything that doesn't neatly fit into any of the above categories? I think we could absorb the Real Life category into the Misfits category as well. This is basically applying a somewhat catchier title to the suggested catch-all category that people have talked about above.

What if I want to nominate Sachmo's Space Empire dynasty? Where would that go?

How about we close the Historical since there's only a handful of those, and make an Epic Dynasty of the year that encompasses fictional, historical, and sci-fi stories. Basically anything not specifically sport related, that doesn't fit with real life or interactive dynasties?

I think this might be a good final set of categories. I think the only thing people still might have a beef with is the lack of a separate Hattrick category. My question is this: are there enough non-Hattrick soccer dynasties out there to merit separate Soccer and Hattrick categories? (I have no idea, since I don't follow any soccer dynasties.)
