Is anybody seeing anything strange with punt or kick returners. I'm using the player file primelord distributed (no x-factor) and the csv shows players like Dante Hall and Phillip Buchanan are rated correctly for return skills in the player file, but when the career is generated Dante Hall is rated 0 kr and 20 pr, while Phillip Buchanan is rated 0 in both. There are a couple of other similar cases. I'm just wondering if I'm in a twilight zone career where Dante Hall can't return kicks or if the ratings aren't translating correctly for some reason.

kaaaaaaplunk....and back to the top.

can a couple of you check your dante halls and let me know how he is rated in punt/kickoff returns. I'm assuming this is unique to me, but just want to make sure.

Dante' Hall in my league has 55 punt return, but 0 kick return.

But I used X-Factor.

In primelord's player file he's specifically rated 9/9 in KR/PR, so he shouldn't get getting rated 0 in KR when a career is generated.

He's 0/0 and 0/0 in mine, but that said, I didn't even see his ratings until I signed him in the first offseason.

looks like a bug in generating a career from the player file.

Jim has said that even without an X-factor, no ratings are set in stone, there are varying differences in the ratings. +/- 9 does not seem like a huge variation to me from the normal file.

In the player file, players are rated from 1-9 in each category, with 9 being the highest rating. Most ratings categories are not hard rated; the ratings are derived from the player's overall rating. So when you have a player like Dante Hall who is hard rated in PR/KR, those ratings are intended to transfer to the game (with perhaps a wide variation given the x factor, of course). A player who is hard rated with the highest possible rating should not be generated with no talent in that area (at least this should not be happening on a wide scale). This is why it looks to me like a bug, if everyone is in fact experiencing this. It's not a huge one though and it should be easily fixed.

Dante has 23/26 and 0 in my current career. He had 0 and 0 in my drafted one.

Another good example is Troy Brown of the Pats. He is in his 11th season and has been a starter for a while, so the x-factor should not have too much of an effect on him. In the player file he is hard rated a 7 in punt returns, but in my career he has zero punt return skils.

35 kick, 0 punt

I'd say that it probably is a bug. There was a fairly similar problem involving the FOF4 player file editor when that game came out.

I don't remember which ratings were screwed up, but there were several. I think returns were among them.

The only reason I noticed all this is I'm playing the Raiders and I have to have Jerry Rice return punts because my punt return guys like Phillip Buchanan have zero skills in that area (Buchanan's hard rated 7 in the player file). Poor old Jerry Rice, forced to return punts at age 41 because nobody else can do it.
