When signing free agents, make sure they do not have blown out ACL's.

You know it warns you now...
Thank you, Jim, for that warning when signing players - at one point with FOF4 I had signed no less than THREE players out with long-term injuries because I didn't check why he was available in the first place.

I actually did just sign a guy who's gonna be out a whole year, though at a two year deal where it doesn't hurt to keep him plus he could be a bargain starter if he's alright sitting out a year.
Plus I was right on a hunch he'd be a mentor to LB, which I spent my first round pick on.

Joey Galloway spends his last three years hurt eating up my salary cap. He heals from his injuries 2 weeks before the season ends and his contract ends, and has back to back 3 TD games. I will not fall for this trap!!!

I signed a TE out with an ACL (he had been injured in week 6, but still hadexcellent ratings). He rides the bench until week 12. He then gets into the starting lieup for 4 weeks and blows out his ACL. The next season I place him on IR from the start determined not to let him come back to early again (I macromanage and the AI made him start - the AI did it I tell you:)). Finally come the beginning of 3rd and last season of his contract, his ratings are crap and he remains the 3rd TE.

ahhhh, the process of not paying attention when you sign a free agent:D
I'll probably be doing the same thing when I finally pick up the game

That's a mistake I would make!

I made the same mistake.
The one that REALLY hurt was a WR I signed. I backloaded the contract pretty good because I was up against the cap. I thought I could make a one year run and then retool. He starts out the year with a 10 catch 154 yard performence. I win 34-3. The following game I lose him AND my QB for nearly 2 years.
End up going 3-13, blow the draft pick and end up with a very angry owner.
