View Full Version : Who dat? The Bengals!

Reminds me of when the Bucs were finally up and coming after so many years of being laughed at. And with Jon Kitna just making the best meaningless 2 yard run of the year, I find myself cheering for them too!

Even though I never liked the Bengals, I think this is what die-hard football is all about. Endure the bad times and then enjoy the excitement of winning football and an enhanced level.

For instance, the Bengals are 4-5 and their fans are very excited about their young team right now. The Bucs are 4-5 and their fans (me) are very nervous about their very old team right now.

That's what footballs all about.

And also why I find FOF so intriguing. It's not the sustainment of a good football team that is enjoyable (but perhaps that is the greater challenge), but it's the creation of a good football team out of the rebuilding years that brings me the most fun.

Yes, Kitna did have a very nice 2 yard run right there! :) Or how about him stepping up after another close sack, and firing that pass to CJ for a first down.

Bengals defense is playing terrific today. The haven't allowed the Chiefs to get into a rhythm and they haven't allowed any big plays.

I'm worried, but not panicked. The Packers has the Chiefs down more than this and they came back. If Hall can break a good return here, we'll be back on pace. If not, I'll get more worried.

Well, the '72 Dolphins can now break out the champagne. Tough luck KC, and a great run at it. This should be the only loss for KC this year though.

I would like to see KC and Dallas SB, Vermeil against Parcells, should be interesting.

I have to give to the Bengals today, they talked the talk, and backed it up by winning. This is another team that is coming out of their long slumber, and doldrums. This is what I like about the NFL nowadays, no dynasties, and parity, anybody can be beat, that is why they play the game.

Unless KC collapses the rest of the way they wont even play in round 1. They will have a bye. I do believe that eith my Colts or the Titans will beat them though.

Because who in the NFC has been so dominating this year?

I wouldn't be surprised by any team from the NFC making it.

And congrats to the Bengals. The arrow is pointed up.

Man, Kitna had one hell of day. Usually, if he has to get creative & evade the d-lineman, bad things, usually very bad things happen. He looked like Houdini today :) and made some really nice throws under pressure.

With John Fox and Bill Parcells both in the mix I don't think this is necessarily true at all, though I am sure he will get some votes. I really don't know at this point who I think deserves coach of the year the most. If Dallas can win the NFC East and perform well with their schedule picking up a little in difficulty towards the end of the year, i would think Parcells will probably win no matter what.

How quickly a 9-1 start makes people forget that the Chiefs have basically sucked since Schottenheimer's last year. Hats off to the Bengals though, they played a good game.

To a large degree, this game was a result of the Bengals playing the perfect game and the Chiefs bringing their C game. Even then, the Bengals only won by 5 at home.

It's a great accomplishment for the Begnals. They earned it today. But I wouldn't exactly write the Chiefs off yet, for crying out loud.

I don't agree with you at all that the chiefs only played a C game, the stats are actually in the chiefs favor, they made plays they scored almost at will in the 4th quarter, yet they couldn't stop the Bengals run game.

I think they brought what they had and it wasn't enough against what the Bengals had on the same day.

no turnovers, no major penalties that changed drives *unless you call the pass interference on Hardy one, which benefited the chiefs*

this was a great game by both teams, and the special teams made the plays for the Bengals for the win, the chiefs special teams, were good, but not good enough.

This was an A game on both sides of the football. I think both teams have huge weaknesses in the deep pass coverage and the chiefs are still having trouble stuffing the run as well. not being able to run the ball for the chiefs was probably the primary reason they couldn't get moving on offense most of the day.

The most important thing for the Bengals to me, watching as a fan, was that they didn't fold.

In the 4th quarter, the Chiefs made several pushes, scoring twice I believe and putting themselves in great position for the win. Each time, I just thought, "Uh oh, here we go again. They're going to Bungle themselves again and find a way to loose.". Each time, the Bengals struck back with a score, keeping ahead in the game.

Their fortitude to overcome in the 4th quarter when in any given game in the past dozen years they would have folded like origami, well, today I was proud to be a Bengal fan.

Another thing. . . How damn cool is it that Romo got busted by the new roid test!!! A BIG :) for that!

I meant the first round they play. They'll lock up a bye with three weeks left.

I just don't get this at all. The Chiefs give up 400+ yards to every good offensive team they play. If anything, Cincy left a lot of points on the field with the missed field goal and driving inside the 20 late.

They also went 4-13 on third downs, including a smattering of ultra conservative calls in the first half.

I thought the Chiefs gameplan sucked, but that has nothing to do with bringing your "A" "B" or "C" game.

I'm not writing the Chiefs off because of this game. I don't think they are as good of a team as Tennessee or Indy. I don't think they can stop a good offense. They try to contain them and hope its enough.

I remember when the Broncos were making their run in '97. Most people wrote off that team because of what was assumed was a poor defense. That defense was ranked 15 spots ahead of the current Chiefs defense.

If the Chiefs can turn the game into a "psycho" game with tons of scoring, turnovers and big plays. . . they'll run wild. Usually that type of thing slows down in the playoffs.

Having said all of that long winded stuff that's probably causing Chiefs fans to have a heat stroke, they should be congrautulated on one hell of a run and it shouldn't be assumed they couldn't take off on another one.

If they beat Denver at Investco, it'll go a long way to convincing me they may have a shot in the playoffs.

As a Chiefs fan, I'm less worried about Denver than I am Minnesota. Denver's defense has taken a huge hit with recent injuries and Jake Plummer is not a QB that you want to count on. I like Jake from his ASU days, but it's hard to forget his days as a Cardinal.

You know, I was in the same belief system. I didn't like the move for Plummer at all. I thought he'd fail miserably.

He's got me sold. He has great mobility and has a great play fake. This allows him to get outside defenses without being under serious pressure. (you have to keep an eye on Portis) He's completing a high % of his passes.

Thing is, even without the fancy dancy stats, the offense is clearly a different team when he's healthy and playing. After that horrific day one effort against Cincy, Jake has now thrown 11TD's and 1 INT.

Can he win the BIG game? I don't know that yet. I do know he's a better QB than Jon Kitna and the Denver offense ran up 459 yards against KC at Arrowhead the first time the teams played. They get 459 yards at Investco, you don't win the football game.

As for the defense, they had a pretty good day today. :) Their biggest problem the past few weeks hasn't been the injured LB's, it's been the offense putting up 8 three and outs a game.

There is no way in hell KC will force Denver into more than 2 three and outs when they match up.

Because who in the NFC has been so dominating this year?

Nobody yet, but the Eagles are getting healthier and have quietly turned it around. They will probably win the NFC East and people were writing them off for dead.

Carolina, Philadelphia, Minnesota, St Louis, and even Seattle are very good football teams, all of which could handle the Cowboys come playoff time. Heck even the hated 49ers could slap Dallas on any given sunday.

And vice versa. The Cowboys defense can keep them in any game against any NFC team, they just have to move the ball and score some points. Being 7-2 and most likely 7-3 after tonight still means you are doing something right in this NFL.

Congrats shorty and the other Bengals fans, you have a keeper.

Minnesota is self destructing right now and may fall completely apart, yet in this day and age, you don't just assume because a team lost 4 in a row they are finished off for good or can't be a good football team. It's how you are playing in early January that's important.

That was a fun game to watch, and the crowd was amazing. Unlike watching the Marlins at Joe Robbie at the end of July with 7,000 of my closest friends, it was great to see so many fans rooting for a team that is just .500, given the history. Those are great fans, and they deserve to have that team do well, even if the ownership deserves lottery picks until they sell the team.

Troy,

I'll tell you this...with as thin as the Bronco's are now on defense...I think the Chiefs could light them up in Investco.

If the Chiefs and Broncos stay healthy...it should be a great game. I do think having Tony Gonzalez at 100% will help the Chiefs. Neither defense is exceptionally strong. I would not be surprised to see a score in the 30s or 40s. The difference maker could be Elam's leg in the thin air. The guy is a monster.

ksyrup,

I really like what Marvin Lewis has done with that team. That defense was all over the place and gave Kansas City fits. I think Marvin Lewis is going to be a head coach in the NFL for a long time. He's just too good a coach and a person.

Was this the first game Peter Warrick played since playing at Florida State? Was this one of those FOF24K type hold-outs or something? ;)

But seriously now. No one denied, when he came out, that Warrick had the skills. Do you think he still can become a consistent threat?

It didn't start just this game. Warrick has been a major threat all year. He's made a ton of big first down catches.

He'll end up with about 1100 total yards this year just in receiving and rushing. His returns are just a bonus.

He's not going to win any MVP trophies, but he has developed into a solid #2 WR this year.

Yeah, Warrick has been solid all year. Its just that CJ is getting all the headlines. I picked Warrick up in FA for my FF team, but have yet to start him since I have CJ going. Starting 2 WRs from th same team just isnt a smart idea.

Ive heard enough from Chiefs fans. I heard them all week at a Bengals message board. And now theyre all whining that they didnt play their 'A' game. Bullsheet! My boys beat yours, so suck it up and move on. And I dont wanna hear no crap that they overlooked us either. CJ shot his mouth off and the national media played it up all week.

Marvin (coach of the year) Lewis put together a helluva game plan and got the job done.

Dam, its been a long time since us downtrodden Bengal fans could stand tall and pump our chests after a big win!!

Hey! This thread is not about the Vikings, Packers, Cowboys, or even really about the Chefs (Looks good, but who are the Chefs?)!!

This thread is about The Cincinnati Bengals!!!!!!!:D It even brought out uglytuco, the one who steered me from a Bengals board to FOF a few years ago.

Hey Bengals fans, here's an oldie but a goodie circa 88-89.

Who Dey
Who Dey
Who Dey
Who Dey think they gonna beat them Bengals
Where do they play? In the Jungle!
Afraid of nooooooooooobody!!!

Or circa 82-83 the original Who Dey song
From the banks of the Ohio comes that orange and black machine
They're the Cincinnati Bengals the finest ever seen
With stripes upon their helmets and fire in their eyes
They'll take the field They will not yield
They're strong and tough and wise
Who Dey Who Dey Who Dey think they gonna beat them Bengals?

Or circa sixty-something:
Hear that Bengal growling mean and an-gery
Here he comes a prowling lean and hun-gery
An offensive Brute
Run pass or boot
and defensively he's ROUGH! TOUGH!
The Cincinnati Bengals
That's the team we're gonna chear to vic-tory
TOUCHDOW BENGALS get some points up on that board
and win the game for Cincinnati!!!!!

Awesome. It's fun to be a fan again. The Jungle lives. Let's just hope Bratkowski remembers to pack the running game for San Diego.

With San Diego's defense in the state it is, Rudi and Dillon both may haul in 100+ yards against the Chargers. I just hope Frazier brings this same defense to San Diego, because Flutie's been looking good down there and we play for shit on the road this year.

Great win for us Bengal Fans, BOOYAH!!!

I'm not sure I can stomach any of those fight songs...yick. I've been a Bengal fan since 1980, and I cringe whenever I hear "Who Dey" I mean come on, are we illiterate? it just sounds dumb to me.

If they play at San Diego like they normally play on the West Coast (L's at Oakland and AZ already... and AZ just lost to the Browns by 38, I mean wtf?!?!?!), we can just forget about all this playoff crap.

Hopefully I built up enough points from you guys in Ohio to complain about Ohio State being ranked above USC in the BCS.

For the record, I've been on the Bengal bandwagon for nearly two months now. I also picked Ohio State to beat Miami last year and defended you guys when the anti Ohio State crowd threw a fit.

I think USC is a better team this year and should go play OU instead of Ohio State, no matter what happens with the Michigan game.

I should still have a few points in reserve even after that, right? :)

But no. Ohio State deserves to play in the championship after they handily defeat Michigan, for the simple fact that they Refused To Lose their way to a championship last year, and nearly do the same again this year. And we are the National Champions, and in these conditions (1 loss like many of the other contenders, good schedule, etc), we deserve to defend our crown.
