Every year I tell myself that I'm not going to just buy books and DVDs for everyone, and every year I choke in the end. This year will be different! Or not...

Anyone have any good, somewhat unique gift ideas? Something a little out of the ordinary, that would fool someone into thinking I put some thought into their gift? Any ideas you've done in the past that I could steal?

My shopping list for this year includes everyone from kids to in-laws to parents to some cousin of the wife who I've met about twice (don't ask). So I'm looking for ideas for all age groups. Bonus points if I can order it online and ship it straight to the person without ever even seeing it.

I'll start with one of my own. There's a company called OneShare.com that lets you buy a single share of various companies. They ship the certificate in a nice frame, and the person actually does become a legal shareholder. They have a list of about 100 companies to choose from, most of which seem kind of pointless. However, some have potential - Disney, Harley Davidson, WWE, etc. I got the wife a Disney share of her birthday and she loved it.

Check out the gourmet food section at Amazon.com - there are some great sauces, salsas, sweets, etc. to choose from.

wife and I were in Eddie Bauer over the weekend and they have some pretty nifty small gifts. Silver telescoping shot glasses, elecrtonic compasses, micro tool sets, etc.

If anyone on your list likes to cook you could try Penzey's Spices (http://www.penzeys.com/). They have a great selection and an online store.

I was instructed by my brother in law NOT to get him the game for christmas. he didn't want to become an addict. He is finishing up his masters at Yale in June. Perhaps it would make a better graduation present.

I think i'll just give the game to everybody in my family. Easy to shop.

I am planning on donating money to different CHARITIES, in the names of my family/friends. That helps solve a "what to get" question, and it fulfills the idea that this is the season for giving. Just an idea, esp. for those who "have everything"

You've only met your wife twice?

(OK, that was more like 3rd-grade level)
