Any interest in modified bitmaps for the FOF map files? I've been playing around with this, and can generate these if there's any interest, but considering how large the files are (450K) I'm not sure if it is worth it or not. edit: Don't know if I'd have room to host the images, either :)
Here's an example:

Thanks, I thought they'd be an improvement (now if I can just figure out where that little house icon is...). I'm wondering if size will be prohibitive though, 50 of those is going to take up a lot of space.
Maybe I can send them directly to Jim :D

For TCY at least, the house icon was in the resources, and is editable via the ResHacker.

It's the above right one, stored as bitmap 190 in the FOF2k4 executable.

That map is pretty! If you did manage to do all 50, you could zip it up. It would probably end up around 17mb. For something that adds no real value, I don't know if you care to go through the work.
However, that is a good friggin' map! If you wanted to do it just for fun, there are people who would update their game with them. I would be glad to host them on my site.
And here is the house icon I think you are looking for. It can be extracted, modified, and replaced with RESHACKER (http://www.explodinghouse.com/FOF/ResHack.zip) .

As much as I do like them, the files could get pretty big for something that adds so little. It does look awesome though.

If bandwidth is an issue I can throw it up on fileplanet for you

That's right, I should have figured I could get to it with ResHacker. I played around with that long ago, I'll look at it again (thanks for the tip). I'll see what I can work out for posting the files (still have to generate most of them).

It's worth noting that the game uses both houses (seemingly at random) to show where the player lives. I have yet to see the helmet or push-pin in use.

The push pin is if you "view city" for cities that don't have teams, the helmet for view city for cities *with* teams. You're right about the houses, I'm not sure what the difference is there.

One looks a bit more mansion-esque. I like to pretend it's Jim's way of including the socio-economic background of my players. :)
