I try to change the background pic with Resource Hacker and I get what looks like bad TV reception. I have changed other things with ResHacker and had no problem. The BG pic I used was off of http://www.explodinghouse.com/FOF/fofmods.htm . I open RH and go to the bitmap, replace bitmap and save then exit and open FOF, what am I doing wrong???

Which background pic did you use and which numbered bitmaps in RH did you replace?

You do have the background image as a BMP file and not a JPG or GIF file right?

Dutch, yes they are bitmap.
yabanci, I have tried this one (http://www.explodinghouse.com/FOF/wheelsbg.bmp) and this one (http://www.explodinghouse.com/FOF/nflbackground.bmp) . The number I am trying to replace is 285. I have tried to resize them and that did not work either. Now that I think about this, it happened to me with FOF4 also. I still do not know why. :(

Try using the same background to replace 285 *and* 284. I'm thinking that will solve the problem. No need to resize them or anything.

Just tried this and that is a "no-go". I even re-downloaded the pic to make sure that I didn't mess it up. I just don't get it. Can you post the original FOF2004 pics for 284 & 285? I would like to see if I can put them back in and I forgot to back them up. Thanks.

I doesn't make any sense to me either, because I tried both backgrounds and they work fine for me. I can't attach anything here but if give me your email I'll send it to you.

Have you tried changing your resolution? When I went down to 1024 * 768 the image looked terrible. It looks much better at 1280 * 1024 (at least on my display).

I can't find the original background image, so can somebody else send it to azjoe. If you are using the original background, just open resource hacker, highlight image 285, go to action menu and selct save bitmap.

The background images that are provided at Dutch's site for FOF4 won't always show up correctly in FOF2k4. The default window size is larger in the new game, so the background bmp needs to be bigger as well.
When I tried to use one of the ones mentioned above, I got a solid black border on the bottom and to the right where the "extra" space is. Those images are 700x494. The actual size of the screen in 2k4 is 750x524, so the images need to be adjusted accordingly.
As I mentioned though, my problem didn't resemble "bad TV reception", so I'm not sure if what's causing your problem is the same as what I just described. But I suppose, if the game enlarged the image to fit, you might get that effect. Why it would happen one way for you and another for me (the black borders), I can't answer.

Thanks Simms for pointing that out about the size difference. I didn't even realize that. I've resized the black nfl background and will send it to Dutch replace the one on his site.

Simms, I was just about to unlicense and re-install the game to get the original bitmaps, then I saw your post and resized the pics to 750x524 and replaced them with RH and it worked!!! Thanks!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

You notice that in the RESHACKER that the entire background image doesn't show up, I think in FOF4 it did, I wonder if somethings have changed.
But, in any event, for what it's worth, remember that when a new patch is released you have to go back into RESHACK to re-add these things....so don't get to worked up changing background screens right now with the patch assumed to be only a couple of weeks away at my guestimate.
EDIT: Background files need to be 750x524...FOF4 files were 700x494.
