I just finished up my 2014 season and went to resign my coach when I noticed that he is now rated Excellent in all five head coaching skills. I don't really remember how good he was when I hired him 12 seasons back, but I'm sure he at least had an average or two and I don't think he had any excellents. I don't think coach development by itself is very surprising, because I signed him when he was just entering his peak years at 45. However, I wonder if coach development is at all tied to team performance? In the 10 seasons he coached my team we went 128-54 with 3 championships and never missed the playoffs.
Do coaches develop faster when they win?
My coordinators have also both developed greatly over this run. My DC is now good/good/ex/ex/ex and my OC is Ex/Ex/Ex/Avg/Avg. Again I don't remember what they were when I originally signed them, but I am positively sure they were no where near as good as they are now. I generally don't pay them much attention to this part of the game... just sign the first decent looking guys and constantly re-extend them until they retire. In fact I just noticed that my coordinators are apparently brothers: Jeremy and Deon Farr... no wonder they've stayed with the team so long! :)
I had noticed before that all the super successful teams in this universe have studly coaching staffs. I had assumed before that the studly coaching staffs led to great team performance, but after seeing my coach develop I wonder if it is the other way around?
