What can I say, this is the biggest rivalry I feel in any sports, but probably just because I live in Ohio. Some kid who used to live in Missouri said no one cared about OSU/Michigan, they cared about Mizzou/Kansas and that was how it was. How odd, as I saw half of my school in the scarlet and gray yesterday.
It is going to be a blast. This game is always fun and nerveracking to watch all at the same time. I hope OSU can pull it out, but it will be a challenge. Yet, I think Michigan is beattable and Chris Perry is not as good as many say he is. If we can shut him down, I feel Navarre will fold under the pressure to win a big game.
For the second year in a row, I got $50 on this game, but this game is more than winning a bet. We can get killed in our bowl game and you know what, I wouldn't be too unsatisfied, as beating Michigan is what the players live for.
Let's beat those Wolves.

Not the biggest rivalry in any sports, but I understand your feelings. Even down here in La. we recognize the game as one of the great rivalries in college football, and I always try to watch it. Of course I hate to break it to you, but most people in La. are pulling for Michigan due to BCS considerations. If LSU wins out, and the right people lose, LSU could get to play for the national championship, so it is nothing personal. I usually pull for Ohio St. and generally like the program. But not this time. LSU has its own great rivalry game today against Ole Miss. Today that rivalry regains some of its prominence, with both teams ranked and national implications. Back in the late 50s, 60s, and early 70s, it was like that almost every year. It has gone downill since then, but the mutual hatred that makes a great rivalry is till there. Now it is coupled with SEC title hopes for both teams and national hopes for LSU. And it is Eli Manning's last home game.

If this is not the biggest rivalry of any sports then, what is?
I understand rivalries are often regional and all are obviously sports specific. For example, I have no real feelings about, say, the Red Sox/ Yankees rivalry. But, for a while there I'd have to say I considered the Avalanche/Detroit rivalry the biggest in sports.
I think a good rivalry has to have the following elements, all of which are interrelated:
1. Big, important games. Not just to the teams playing, but for the rest of the sport (play-off games, national title on the line, etc.)
2. Two teams near the top of their sport. Rivalries are their best when both teams are considered good or "great" teams. This will likely hit some peaks and valleys, but should, for the most part, be consistent.
3. The games are mainly competitive. A rivalry definitely loses some of its lustre if one team is always the favorite.
4. The teams play each other "often" (this is relative depending on the sport). Familiarity breeds contempt.
I am sure there are others, this was just a quick list I made up on the spot.
The Michigan/Ohio State rivalry have all four of these elements and have had them for many, many, many years. Rarely is this game of little consequence (in the Big 10, BCS, etc.). Rarely are these two teams not in the Top 20 (or Top 10 for the most part). The games are almost always competitive and close. They play each other every year.
All that being said....
GO BLUE!!!

I think the reason why OSU/UofM is the biggest rivalry is the fact it's 100 years old as of today, and when hasn't this game meant something?
A few years ago, Miami was garbage, and before Bowden, FSU Was garbage.
But every year, no matter what, UofM/OSU has a huge meaning.
The Iron Bowl can't say that.
Army/Navy can't say that (But I love the game, and it's special for its own reasons)
OU/Nebraska could've said that, but not anymore.
Texas/OU is up there, but still not at the level.
USC/UCLA is good, but again, not there.
I just don't see another rivalry where you can look and see that last game of the year and know everythings on the line before the season starts.

Wow this is disappointing. I'm a PSU fan, so I really don't have any interest who really wins this game or not, although I'm pulling for Michigan just because OSU are a bunch of jerks, with their weaseling winning ways, and overall corruptiveness.
I wanted this one to go down to the wire, but I don't even think that OSU could score 21 points in a game.

I am watching the ESPN gamecast, looks like OSU is driving. If they can cut it to 21-7 at half and cut it to 21-14 by mid 3rd quarter, this will be a game. If they don't score before half and Michigan scores another TD, it is over.

Why would Carr take the chance of throwing a pick and putting OSU right back in it?
They had some momentum, it didn't make much sense to me either.
Three timeouts or not, it's 70 yards, and lots of room for mistakes.

I'm glad the game turned out the way it should have. Michigan had to play poorly to lose its two games this year; OSU had to play well just to win several games this year. This is about what I expected, although take away the holding call (it was definitely legit) and at 35-7, this game would have been even more fun to watch.

I watched that game and Minnesota dominated them for three quarters and lost. Michigan definately earned the victory, don't get me wrong. What I was saying is that Minnesota is an average to slightly above average squad, and they were able to push Michigan around so I doubt they would give OU much of a game.

Time to face the music. Congrats to UM, they played a great game today. I hope they do the Big-10 proud in Pasadena and administer a black and blue ass whippin in true B10 style to whomever they play. Also, many, many kudos to Chris Perry. He was a MAN today.
As for my Buckeyes, I am proud of the fact they didn't fold and stood up and made UM earn it when they were down 28-7. I think Jim Tressel has a lot to do with that. Under John Cooper this would have ended up 49-7. I was also greatly diassappointed in the D effort. If they could have just tackled this might have been different. I can't recall a single time where the first man hitting Perry actually brought him down.
Hopefully OSU, with their fan loyalty and virtual guarantee of a sellout wherever they play, can get a shot at the Orange or Fiesta Bowls. You all may have to tolerate another OSU-Miami game or even OSU-FSU. Either way, I like our chances. Good luck Michigan, GO BUCKS!

Well done on both sides. Michigan was clearly the better team. They basically moved the ball at will. There was a severe lack of concentration in the 3rd quarter when the game was 28-7 and 28-14. But as soon as it was within in touchdown, Michigan moved the ball down the field with ease and scored a touchdown.
Michigan's best players were the best today: Perry, Edwards, Breaston, etc.
A solid game alll around.

Congrats to Michigan! It's good to see Ohio State lose:D
It feels good to be the only team in the Big Ten that beat Michigan:D

This game made me happy. Thank you Michigan, but now I go back to disliking you. :)

Again, congrats to UM for whipping the Bucks up front, all day long.
No pressure on Navarre + Chris Perry for 150 yards = UM in Rose Bowl.
It's well deserved. Unlike most of the Buckeye fans around here, I think USC deserved to be in the Sugar Bowl more than Ohio State, and now they will get that chance (provided the BCS doesn't screw them and they don't screw themselves vs. the Beavers).
That being said, I don't understand why so many here were rooting against Ohio St. Many other college programs have had just as many (if not more) disciplinary problems than the Bucks this year, and Ohio St. is not a program out of control. It seemed like where most people rooted for Ohio St. last year, this year they were the villains. Just confusing to me. Oh well, like or dislike whoever you want. I know all the Buckeye fans here will be watching with me and rooting for them in the Orange Bowl.

I can't help it. I just hate them because I was born that way (and then went to UofM for 7 years). But, I can sympathize, they are a hateable team if there ever was one.
But...
NOW, the hate is over. No more hate until around July/August of next year. No bitter taste of defeat, only the smell of roses in the air.
An interesting fact I noticed while reading about the game:
Ohio State's schedule was heavy on spread offenses throughout the season - Washington, San Diego State, Bowling Green, North Carolina State, Northwestern, Michigan State and Purdue.
I think this goes a long way explaining why OSU's defense was ranked #1 against the run coming into this game. None of those teams run the ball. The only teams who did... Wisonsin and Michigan.

You're the only person I've really heard bring this up. I knew it. Most of my friends knew it. We played a LOT of spread teams this year. When we had to stop the run against UW (Booker Stanley sealed the game... ugh) and UM, we couldn't do it. I do think that OSU's defense was a very good bunch, but their stats were helped a lot by facing predominantly passing teams all year.

OSU = Lucky they didn't play the Gophers.

Yeah, that Glen Mason really knows how to come through in the big games.

I'm guessing he was simply highlighting the fact that the Rodents averaged 293 yards/game rushing (#2 in the country). They have two tailbacks with at least 990 yards, and they average 6.1 and 6.7 ypc. Yikes!

butter, I've always hated OSU. I don't really know why, I just do. They're probably my least favorite football team in the Big Ten. Even more so then Wisconsin and Minnesota:eek:.
The last two years I've really started to hate them because:
1) Iowa has started to become really good, and when your team is good, you have to hate the other good teams in conference.
2) I can't stand the way they win(and play) it's usually effective but it's really, really annoying. The even though you play like shit every single week, you still find some way to win.
But now, since the season is over, I'm a Big Ten conference fan, and I hope that all the Big Ten teams(even Ohio State) win their bowl games!

See college football forum.
You're preaching to the choir if you're telling me Mason is vastly inadaquate.
That said, the Gophers would have run all over OSU.
