View Full Version : The Quarterback Class of 2003, A Combined FOF2004/TCY Dynasty

As a way to get heavily back into the TCY/FOF combination, I've decided to borrow heavily from Stkelly's 5 Great Men dynasty. Instead of following teams, this dynasty will follow players. Quarterbacks, specifically.

We will begin our dynasty with TCY by following the five best rated senior high school quarterbacks. We'll follow them through recruiting, through college, and then, hopefully through a long career in the pros.

Before we start, the nitty-gritty details.

I'm running FOF2004, post-patch and TCY, with the 1.2a update installed. No house rules.

I'm running both at medium difficulty. For those who are curious, I will be running Arizona State in TCY, and the Arizona Crudinals in the NFL, glutton for punishment that I am.

In addition to following these players, we'll do a weekly Top 25 scoreboard in the colleges (and a BCS Top 10, once we hit week 6 of the season), and a pro scoreboard so you can follow your favorite team. I will recap a game of the week in the NFL, and recap each game that our anointed ones play, college or pro.

Anyway, enough yapping. With the next post, we'll meet our five young men.

Joel McDonald

Joel is a senior from Glynn Academy in Brunswick, Georgia. Joel is listed as 6'3", 204 lbs. He is considered the #17 prospect regardless of position, and is the #1 prospect nationally at the QB spot.

An Education major, his GPA is 2.69. He scored an 1128 on the SAT. Our scout, Kelly Sanderson (Pretty Good with QB) rates him as an 84 of 100. Joel won't hesitate to roll out, but usually will run only if nobody is open, or if he sees daylight, whose strength is touch passing, but lacks a little in arm strength.

So far, in 4 games, he's hit on 40 of his 63 passes for 730 yards, with 7 TDs and no INTs. He has also run 58 times for 336 yards.

Joel has no strong sentimental favorite. He mainly wants to play for a good program, possibly staying close to home, if possible.

Byron Huntley

Byron is a 6'2", 196 lb. senior from Green Valley High School in Henderson, Nevada. His major is Spanish. His GPA through his junior year is 3.41. He scored a whopping 1343 on his SAT.

Byron is considered the 20th best prospect at any position, and is the #2 QB prospect nationwide. Our scout, Vince Abrams (Good with QBs) rates him as 76 of 100. Byron will take off in a second if he sees a seam, and is sometimes criticized for running too much. His strength is his timing, but he struggles with throwing intermediate passes, particularly in traffic.

Byron's main concern is to go to an academically gifted school, with a secondary desire to stay in the West.

Thus far, he has completed 24 of 42 passes for 493 yards, with 2 TDs and no INTs. Byron has also run 44 times for 332 yards and 5 TDs.

Willie Jennings

Willie is a 6'2", 201 lb. senior from Owosso High School in Owosso, Michigan. A Geography Major, his GPA is 3.29. He scored a 1093 on his SAT.

Willie is considered the 23rd best prospect at any position, and is the #3 QB prospect nationwide. Our scout in the Great Lakes region couldn't tell the difference between Dan Marino and Koy Detmer, so I won't waste my time there. Willie, like Joel, usually will scramble to buy time, but can run if pressed. His strength is his touch, but he struggles throwing long passes.

Willie will make his selection based on academics, with a lesser desire to stay in the Midwest.

In four games, Willie has completed 47 of 88 passes for 871 yards. He has thrown 6 touchdowns, however, in the negative column he's also thrown three picks. Willie has run the ball 11 times for 114 yards.

Norbert Clark

Norbert is a 6'2", 186 lb. senior from Savanna High School in Savanna, Oklahoma. A Sociology major, Norbert's GPA is 3.73, with an SAT score of 1370.

Norbert is the 38th best prospect in the nation at any position, and the 4th best QB prospect. Our scout, Kim Stuart (Excellent with QBs) rates him as 80/100. Norbert, like Byron, will take off any time he sees daylight. His strength is medium passing, but he struggles throwing deep balls.

A country boy, Norbert has a strong desire to stay in the area, but would prefer a good school academically as a secondary consideration.

In 4 games, Norbert has hit on 90 of 142 passes for 1622 yards. He has thrown 9 TDs, and given up 2 picks. He has also run 19 times for 94 yards.

Emmanuel Harris

Emmanuel is a 6'1", 198 lb. senior from Watertown High School in Watertown, New York. A marketing major, Emmanuel has a jaw dropping 3.96 GPA in high school, with a 1388 SAT score.

Considered the 50th best prospect in the nation overall, Emmanuel is the 5th best QB prospect. Our scout, Winfred Douglas (Excellent with QBs) rates him as 80/100. He's an above average runner. His strength is his touch. He struggles throwing the deep ball.

Emmanuel would prefer to stay close to home, with academics being a secondary factor in his likely decision.

Emmanuel has hit 24 of 40 for 424 yards with 1 TD thus far in 4 games. He has run twice for 6 yards.

Week 8 Recruiting

Another one of our five stud quarterbacks has committed. More on that in a moment.

Byron Huntley

Texas contacts Byron for the first time. Nine schools have now expressed interest in Byron, though only two have made offers.

Contacts: Georgia, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Michigan, Nebraska, Penn State, Syracuse, Texas, UCLA
Offers: Penn State, Syracuse
Visits: Penn State, Syracuse

Willie Jennings

Willie has now made his five official visits, and scratched the rest of the schools off the list.

Contacts, Offers, & Visits: Clemson, Michigan, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Wake Forest.

Norbert Clark

Norbert Clark commits to Oklahoma. Norbert's considerations were first Distance, and Second Academics. Clearly, no school was going to be closer to his home than Oklahoma, and Oklahoma enjoyed a good academic edge, making this a slam dunk. Norbert never really gave much consideration to the schools on his short list.

In 9 games this season, Norbert completed 169 of 288 for 2974 yards, with 13 TDs & 2 INTs.

Emmanuel Harris

Ohio State withdraws its offer to Emmanuel, leaving him with a very narrow range of choices. Syracuse also offers a visit, but does not make a scholarship offer at this time.

Contacts: Michigan, South Carolina, Syracuse, Texas
Offers: South Carolina
Visits: South Carolina

Week 9 Recruiting

Another week, another commitment.

Byron Huntley

Byron Huntley commits to UCLA Just when it looked like Byron was going to head out East, UCLA sweeps in, makes an offer, and like that, Byron is a Bruin.

Emmanuel Harris

For the second straight week, a team withdraws an offer on Emmanuel. This time it's South Carolina. On the other hand, a few more schools come calling, and a few make offers.

It'll be interesting to see how he does. UCLA is a running team and runs something close to a Pro Set, and Byron's numbers smell suspiciously of Option QB. It'll be interesting to see who out of these five turns out to be as good as advertised.

I hope you continue to enjoy it. :)

For the first time in weeks, none of our five quarterbacks makes a commitment. On to the tale of Willie Jennings and Emmanuel Harris.

Willie Jennings

Emmanuel Harris

Schools drop in and drop out of the Emmanuel Harris recruiting derby. Iowa State withdraws its offer, but Notre Dame and Georgia come calling.

Week 11 Recruiting

The fourth of our five quarterbacks makes a commitment this week.

Willie Jennings:

Willie continues to wait on making his decision. He still has offers from Clemson, Michigan, Michigan State and Wake Forest.

Emmanuel Harris:

Emmanuel Harris commits to Michigan. The Wolverines finally make Emmanuel an offer, and he takes it. Interestingly, Willie Jennings still has an offer from Michigan, which could lead to the interesting possibility of two of our five QBs winding up on the same roster.

Emmanuel completed 68 of 119 passes for 1131 yards, with 8 Passing TDs and no interceptions. He was an All-New York Selection at QB.

The AFC West is looking like the toughest division in football like many thought it would be at the beginning of the season.

Who'da thunk the Cardinals would be 9-2?

BTW, go Colorado State!

Re. The AFC West, yes, this is more like what folks thought the real division would be like in 2003.

I'm getting a great deal of amusement out of the AFC North, where the division winner would be 3 games below .500 if the season ended today. With this ridiculous 8 division setup, I think it's an absolute lock that some day we'll see a 6-10 or 7-9 division winner.

Another shock is the Buffalo Bills going 11-0.

With regard to the Cards, I'm actually running the team, but I haven't done a whole lot with them. I signed some guys for depth, and cut out some of the complete deadwood in training camp. I'm pretty much playing GM only (I let the coaches set everything but the depth charts). We've won a lot of close games...24-21, 21-17, etc. We aren't putting up a whole lot of offense, but the defense is playing well and we're not beating ourselves.

2003 NFL Week 14 Playoff Picture:

AFC Divisional Races:

AFC North
Pittsburgh 6-7 (Conf: 6-3) (Div: 4-1)
Baltimore 4-9 (Conf: 3-6) (Div: 2-2)

Baltimore: @Oakland; @Cleveland; PITTSBURGH
Pittsburgh: @NY Jets; @SAN DIEGO; @Baltimore

In the NFL's ugliest division, only a complete collapse by the Steelers and a 3-0 run by the Ravens could keep Pittsburgh out of the playoffs. Since the Steelers have the second tiebreaker, the Ravens need to win the division outright.

AFC South
Tennessee 8-5 (Conf: 6-4) (Div: 4-1)
Indianapolis 8-5 (Conf: 6-4) (Div: 2-3)
Jacksonville 7-6 (Conf: 6-5) (Div: 3-3)

Indianapolis: ATLANTA; DENVER; @Houston
Jacksonville: @New England; NEW ORLEANS; @ Atlanta
Tennessee: BUFFALO; @Houston; TAMPA BAY

The Titans have the first tiebreaker (division record), so they effectively have a game up on both the Colts and Jacksonville. 2 Tennessee wins will end the discussion. The Colts and Jags will need serious help, particularly since Tennessee has only one divisional game left, with the lowly Texans.

AFC East:
Buffalo has clinched the AFC East.

AFC West:
Oakland 11-2 (Conf: 8-2) (Div: 4-1)
Denver 10-3 (Conf: 8-2) (Div: 4-2)

Oakland: BALTIMORE; GREEN BAY; @San Diego
Denver: CLEVELAND; @Indianapolis; @Green Bay

Kansas City could finish as high as 11-5, but has lost all tiebreakers to Oakland and Denver.

Two Oakland wins or Two Denver losses will clinch the division. A win in Oakland's remaining divisional game against last place San Diego would give them the first tiebreaker.

AFC Homefield Advantage:
Buffalo 12-1 (Conf: 9-0, Div: 4-0)
Oakland 11-2 (Conf: 8-2, Div 4-1)
Denver 10-3 (Conf: 8-2, Div 4-2)

Remaining Games:
Buffalo: @Tennessee; MIAMI; @New England
Oakland: BALTIMORE; GREEN BAY; @San Diego
Denver: CLEVELAND; @Indianapolis; @Green Bay

AFC Wild Card Race:
Denver: 10-3 (Conf: 8-2, Div 4-2)
*Tennessee: 8-5 (Conf: 6-4, Div 4-1)
Indianapolis: 8-5 (Conf: 6-4, Div 2-3)
Kansas City: 8-5 (Conf: 7-5, Div 3-3)
-----------------------------------------
*Pittsburgh: 6-7 (Conf: 6-3, Div 4-1)
Jacksonville: 7-6 (Conf: 6-5, Div 3-3)
Miami: 6-7 (Conf: 4-6, Div 3-1)
New England: 5-8 (Conf: 3-6, Div 1-3)
San Diego: 5-8 (Conf: 4-6, Div 0-5)

*-Team currently leading it's division.

Oakland has already clinched a wild-card berth at a minimum on tiebreakers.

New England and San Diego are all but eliminated. We'll look at the Wild Card race in greater detail next week. It's worth noting that one of the currently 8-5 teams will not make the playoffs, even if it runs the table.

NFC Divisional Races

NFC North
Green Bay has won the division.

NFC South
Carolina 9-4 (Conf: 6-3, Div 5-1)
New Orleans 8-5 (Conf: 7-3, Div 4-2)

Carolina: @Arizona, DETROIT, @NY Giants
New Orleans: NY GIANTS, @Jacksonville, DALLAS

Tampa Bay is effectively eliminated from the race because Carolina has the divisional tiebreaker.

NFC East
New York Giants have won the division.

NFC West
Seattle 12-1 (Conf: 8-1, Div 3-0)
Arizona 10-3 (Conf: 6-3, Div 3-2)

Seattle: @St. Louis, ARIZONA, @San Francisco
Arizona: CAROLINA, @Seattle, MINNESOTA

Seattle's two game edge is somewhat blunted by the fact that all three remaining games are divisional. Arizona needs help, and the Week 16 game in Seattle is a must win.

NFC Homefield Advantage:
Seattle 12-1 (Conf: 8-1, Div 3-0)
NY Giants 11-2 (Conf: 8-1, Div 5-0)
Arizona 10-3 (Conf: 6-3, Div 3-2)
Green Bay 9-4 (Conf: 9-3, Div 5-1)
Carolina 9-4 (Conf: 6-3, Div 5-1)

A win by Seattle in any of its remaining games would turn this into a 3 team race.

NFC Wild Card Race
Arizona 10-3 (Conf 6-3, Div 3-2)
*Carolina 9-4 (Conf 6-3, Div 5-1)
New Orleans 8-5 (Conf 7-3, Div 4-2)
Tampa Bay 6-7 (Conf 5-6, Div 1-4)
Philadelphia 6-7 (Conf 4-6, Div 2-3)
San Francisco 6-7 (Conf 3-7, Div 2-3)
Dallas 5-8 (Conf 5-4, Div 1-3)

Seattle has already clinched a Wild Card Berth at a minimum.
Detroit, Atlanta, Minnesota, and St. Louis are effectively eliminated because they would lose the first tiebreaker to the Saints.
