While looking something up, MLB.com is reporting that Hall of Fame pitcher Warren Spahn has died. He was 82.
Spahn played his entire career with the Boston and Milwakuee Braves, and with all due respect to Tom Glavine and Steve Carlton, was the finest left hander ever to pitch. He was a 20 game winner in three different decades.

When you say finest lefty to pitch and mention Glavine and Charlton, you were excluded Sandy Koufax because he's in a different league right?

Koufax had 5 incredible years and some lousy ones in the beginning.
Spahn, IIRC, is the all time winningest LHP.
No doubt that had Sandy pitched until his late 30's that it would be close.

I had the occassion to meet Mr. Spahn a few years ago. Class guy, great stories, and an even greater loss.

Warren Spahn is in my opinion a pitcher who gets no where near enough credit for as good of a pitcher as he was.. I won't turn this thread into a discussion if he was or was not as good as Carlton, but as a life long Braves fan, this is a sad day for me...

I will agree that Spahn was a great pitcher, one of the best lefties. Koufax hung it up rather then ruin his arm. You won't see many people do that

dola..
And we will always remember:
"Spahn and Sain and pray for rain" ... some might say I mold my OOTP postseason rotations after that....

Steve Carlton was my idol...but I'd probably give Spahn the nod. Great pitcher.

That's too bad, Spahn is under appreciated. He was so good and so consistant for so long.

I met him at a card show back in the 80s and he truly was a class guy. He is definitely underappreciated but he certainly had a career to be proud of.
I used to live a mile away from Spahn, have an autographed pennant on my wall in fact.
